  • Annona reticulata belonging to the family Annonaceae is traditionally used as anthelmintic and it is reported to have anticancer activity. Free radicals are known to be involved in various types of diseases like cancer, diabetes, neurological disorders etc. The present study was aimed to evaluate free radical scavenging property of methanol extract of the leaves of Annona reticulata in some in vitro models e.g. DPPH, nitric oxide, superoxide and lipid peroxide radical model. The extract showed good dose-dependent free radical scavenging property in all the models. $IC_{50}$ values were found to be 3.22, 170.01, 25.12 and $140.12\;{\mu}g/ml$ respectively in DPPH, nitric oxide, superoxide and lipid peroxidation inhibition assays. Reductive ability of the extract was also tested based on potassium ferricyanide reduction where dose dependant reducing capability was observed. Measurement of total phenolic compounds by Folin-Ciocalteu's phenol reagent indicated that 1mg of the extract contained $146.20\;{\mu}g$ equivalent of pyrocatechol. The findings ascertain promising free radical scavenging property of the extract and the antioxidant property of the extract may be due to the high content of phenolic compounds.

  • The objectives of this study were to develop a food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for Vietnamese female immigrants in Korea and to evaluate the validity of the FFQ. A total of 80 food items were selected in developing the FFQ according to consumption frequency, the contribution of energy and other nutrients, and the cooking methods based on one-day 24 hour recall (24HR) from 918 Vietnamese female immigrants between November 2006 and November 2007. The FFQ was validated by comparison with 24HR of 425 Vietnamese female immigrants between November 2008 and August 2009. The absolute nutrient intake calculated from the FFQ was higher than that estimated by 24HR for most nutrients. The correlation coefficients between 24HR and FFQ ranged from 0.10 (vitamin C) - 0.36 (energy) for crude intake, 0.05 (vitamin E) - 0.32 (calcium) for per 1000 kcal, and 0.08 (zinc) - 0.34 (calcium) for energy-adjusted, respectively. More than 70% of subjects were classified into the same or adjacent agreement groups for nutrients other than fiber, sodium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, while less than 10% of subjects were classified into complete disagreement groups. We conclude that the FFQ appears to be an acceptable tool for estimating nutrient intake and dietary patterns of Vietnamese female immigrants in Korea. Future studies to validate the FFQ using various biomarkers or other dietary assessment methods are needed.

  • Poly(butylene terephthalate- co-oxybenzoate)(PBOT) containing mesogenic oxybenzoate units in the main chain was synthesized through ester exchange reaction by melt mixing of poly(butylene terephthalate)(PBT) and p-acetoxybenzoic acid (ABA). From the kinetics of the copolymerization reaction, the activation energies and the rate constants of homopolymerization and copolymerization, k$_{h}$ and k$_{c}$, could be determined. From the reaction conditions of different compositions, 4/6, 5/5, and 6/4 of PBT/ABA, at 250, 260, and 27$0^{\circ}C$, it was revealed that copolymerization between PBT and ABA proceeds on a pseudo-second order reaction if the ABA content and its conversion are low. In this case, the ratio of rate constants of homopolymerization to copolymerization was in the range from 1.08 to 3.17, indicating that the copolymer with more notable block character was obtained at the higher mole fraction of ABA and at higher temperature.e.e.

  • Leukemia is the abnormal increase of hematopoietic progenitor cells in tissues, resulting in anemia, increased susceptibility to infection and impaired blood clotting. The adenosine deaminase (ADA) gene is an important druggable target for the treatment of leukemia patients. Genetic and molecular analyses were performed to determine the effects of ADA gene mutations in 20 leukemia patients in the Korean population. To analyze the relationship between genotype and phenotype, the ADA genomic DNAs - including 1,092 bp of 12 exons and partial intron sequences flanking each exon - were sequenced and compared. In this study, the known mutations in other diseases, more than 50 mutations already reported in patients with severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID) and autism, were not found, but two novel mutations in leukemia patients were discovered. They include one nonsense mutation (A>C at nt position 478, F101F) and one missense mutation (G>A at nt position 778, E260K). One missense mutation (G>A at nt position 22, D8Y) was also detected in 20 normal control patients (allelic frequency of 7.5%). Interestingly, subjects in the Korean population retained 2 bp insertion at the intron 6 (IVS6-52insGC), something that has never been shown in other populations. The genetic study to find out the correlation between the mutant alleles and leukemia patients revealed no association statistically (p>0.05). The mutation found in leukemia needs further study to determine its possibility as a molecular marker for the diagnosis of leukemia.

  • Epstein Barr virus (EBV)-encoded nuclear antigen-1 (EBNA1) plays a pivotal in an EBV episome replication and persistence. Despite considerable attempts, there are no EBV drugs or vaccines. We attempted to eradicate EBV episomes by targeting EBNA1 using the transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALEN) (E1TN). E1TN-mediated transient knockout (KO) of EBNA1 reduced EBNA1 expression, and caused significant loss of EBV genomes and progressive death of EBV-infected cells. Furthermore, when a mixture of EBV-infected Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) cells and EBV-negative BL cells was targeted by E1TN, EBV-negative cells were counter-selected while most EBV-infected cells died, further substantiating that EBNA1 KO caused selective death of EBV-infected cells. TALEN-mediated transient targeting of EBNA1 attenuated the growth of EBV-infected cells, implicating a possible therapeutic application of E1TN for EBV-associated disorders.

  • Indonesia has a population of more than 260 million, of which, by 2020, Generation Y is predicted to account for 70% of the total. With different birth years, Generation Y is the backbone of Indonesia's product purchasing. Generation Y is interested in establishing strong relationships with specific brands on social media. They are also interested in working with companies to design a product. Most Generation Y utilizes more than one electronic device and they are also brand loyal. Therefore, this study seeks to examine the effect of social media (i.e., e-WOM, online community, and online advertising) on brand image and loyalty in Generation Y in Indonesia. The sampling method employed was purposive sampling. A total of 150 respondents in the age range of 23-30 years were involved as the sample. Using multiple regression model in data analysis, this study proved that e-WOM, not only have a positive and significant effect on the brand image, but also on brand loyalty. Furthermore, online community also positively and significantly affects brand image and brand loyalty. Likewise, online advertising has a positive and significant effect on brand image and brand loyalty. This study's findings indicated that all the proposed hypotheses were well accepted.

  • It is true that traditional markets have become a great foundation for changes in today's production and distribution. However, with the development of science and information communication gradually, the perspective of distribution has been newly developed. In particular, the digital economy system and the pursuit of perfect competition in the global era have placed a great burden on the traditional market. Accordingly, the government has made numerous efforts to revitalize traditional markets, which has led to the present day. However, the change in production, distribution, and transactional perspectives of newly introduced e-commerce in the position of not being able to deviate from the characteristics of the traditional market, that is, the traditional market, poses another major crisis. Therefore, while maintaining the tradition of the traditional market, the introduction of a new method of electronic trading has a good advantage to become an advanced market, but it has not pursued major changes due to fundamental management methods and small-scale operation. Therefore, I believe that it is urgent to introduce and apply new e-commerce to secure transitional competitiveness in order for the traditional market to be reborn and to pursue change and development into a new advanced market.

  • With the advent of COVID-19, the world economy has undergone enormous losses and unprecedented crises. Moreover, this pandemic has put a significant effect on all business organizations, comprising the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector. MSMEs have been continuing to develop business strategies and are eager to compete in the market. The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the full focus of MSMEs from 'business growth' to 'business survival' worldwide. E-commerce readiness plays a crucial role in a time of uncertainty and crisis during COVID-19 and affects the durability and sustainability of the business. This study attempts to study the readiness of online business and "E-commerce" adoption of MSMEs and its contribution to economic growth by utilizing both qualitative and quantitative techniques in the case of India. We use content analysis to determine the readiness of online business and Ecommerce in the post COVID-19 period. The result highlights the specific issues of this sector such as the shortage of resources and disruptions in the supply chain & logistical issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative analysis discloses that almost half of the respondents adopt online platforms along with additional challenges to sustain their business during the pandemic. This study utilizes annual time series data for the period from 1973-74 to 2017-18 to understand the long-run relationship between India's GDP and MSMEs units. By utilizing the co-integration technique, this study reveals that there is a long-run relationship between MSME units and the economic growth of this country.

  • Let R be a factorial domain. In this work we investigate the connections between the arithmetic of Int(R) (i.e., the ring of integer-valued polynomials over R) and its monadic submonoids (i.e., monoids of the form {$g{\in}Int(R){\mid}g{\mid}_{Int(R)}f^k$ for some $k{\in}{\mathbb{N}}_0$} for some nonzero $f{\in}Int(R)$). Since every monadic submonoid of Int(R) is a Krull monoid it is possible to describe the arithmetic of these monoids in terms of their divisor-class group. We give an explicit description of these divisor-class groups in several situations and provide a few techniques that can be used to determine them. As an application we show that there are strong connections between Int(R) and its monadic submonoids. If $R={\mathbb{Z}}$ or more generally if R has sufficiently many "nice" atoms, then we prove that the infinitude of the elasticity and the tame degree of Int(R) can be explained by using the structure of monadic submonoids of Int(R).
