In this paper, Optimal operation plan through load analysis of industrial end-user is suggested. It calculated economic feasibility of ESS with detailed power lad analysis and conditions. Generally, if the latest maximum power is less than 30% of contracted power, it can not be peak shaving operation plan. and if the peak load level stays stead for 24 hours, it is difficult peak shaving for ESS. In addition to, When the peak load is occurred in summer or winter, a hybrid operation method combining the peak shaving plan and the time shift method is proposed. Therefore, When ESS is installed in industrial electrical customer, it is achieved best effect through the optimal operation plan.
This paper in order to efficiently operate zero energy buildings developed a methodology for optimal operation of PV + ESS active systems. This program consists of three steps. First step is PV optimal operation and second step is PV + ESS optimal operation. Third step is the analysis of the results by PV + ESS optimal operation. The optimal operation of PV + ESS was calculated by using Dynamic Programming (DP). Therefore, the optimal capacity and operating plan of PV + ESS in this study are calculated for electric load at building. This paper conducted case study to verify the validity of the developed algorithm. Also, the sensitivity analysis analyzed the effect of each variable on the optimal operation.
At present, electric power industry around the world are being gradually changed to a new paradigm, such as electrical energy storage system, the wireless power transmission. Demand for ESS, the core technology of the new paradigm, has been growing worldwide. However, it is essential to estimate the optimal capacity of ESS facilities for frequency regulation because the benefit would be saturated in accordance with the investment moment and the increase of total invested capacity of ESS facilities. Hence, in this paper, the annual optimal mathematical investment model is proposed to estimate the optimal capacity and to establish investment plan of ESS facility for frequency regulation. The optimal mathematical investment model is newly established for each season, because the construction period is short and the operation effect for the load by seasons is different unlike previous the mathematical investment model. Additionally, the marginal operating cost is found by new mathematical operation model considering no-load cost and start-up cost as step functions improving the previous mathematical operation model. ESS optimal capacity is established by use value in use iterative methods. In this case, ESS facilities cost is used in terms of the value of the beginning of the year.
This paper proposed a method of energy storage system (ESS) operation to increase acceptable production of renewable energy (RE). We analyzed the rebound effect that does not show a demand increase even if the capacity of the ESS is increased and considered the charging time by analyzing the time when the output limit is most generated. The rebound effect was mitigated by adjusting the discharging time of the ESS, and the effect of the increase of acceptable production of the renewable energy was analyzed by adjusting the charging time.
In December 2017, the government announced plans to increase the current proportion of renewable energy from 7% to 20% by 2030 through a plan called the Renewable Energy 3020 Implementation Plan. Therefore, the demand for installation of photovoltaic(PV), wind turbine(WT) and battery energy storage system(BESS) is expected to increase. In particular, the system combined with energy storage system(ESS) is expected to take up a large portion since PV and WT can receive high renewable energy certificates(REC) weights when combined with ESS. In this study, we calculate the optimal capacity of the power conditioning system(PCS) and the BESS by comparing the economical efficiency and maximize the efficiency of the PV-BESS system in which the PV and the BESS are connected. By analyzing the system marginal price(SMP) and REC, it maximize profits through application of REC weight 5.0 and optimal charge-discharge scheduling according to the SMP changes.
Recently, the importance of energy demand management, particularly peak load control, has been increasing due to the policy changes of the Second Energy Basic Plan. Even though the installation of distributed generation systems such as Photovoltaic and energy storage systems (ESS) are encouraged, high initial installation costs make it difficult to expand their supply. In this study, the power consumption of a university building was measured in real time and the measured power consumption data was used to calculate the optimal installation capacity of the Photovoltaic and ESS, respectively. In order to calculate the optimal capacity, it is necessary to analyze the operation methods of the Photovoltaic and ESS while considering the KEPCO electricity billing system, power consumption patterns of the building, installation costs of the Photovoltaic and ESS, estimated savings on electric charges, and life time. In this study, the power consumption of the university building with a daily power consumption of approximately 200kWh and a peak power of approximately 20kW was measured per minute. An economic analysis conducted using these measured data showed that the optimal capacity was approximately 30kW for Photovoltaic and approximately 7kWh for ESS.
Owing to the reduction in the peak power of a DC railway subsystem, many studies on energy storage system (ESS) applications have received attention. Each application focuses on improving the efficiency and addressing regulation issues by utilizing the huge regenerative energy generated by braking-phase vehicles. The ESS applications are widely divided into installation on a vehicle or in a substation, depending on the target system characteristics. As the main purpose of the ESS application is to reduce the peak power of starting-phase vehicles, an optimized ESS utilization can be achieved by the operating at the highest peak power section. However, the weight of an entire vehicle, including those of the passengers, continuously changes during operation; thus, considering the total power consumption and the discharging point is difficult. As a contribution to the various storage device algorithms, this study deals with ESS on board vehicles and introduces an ESS operating plan for peak-power reduction by investigating the weight of a train on a real-time basis. This process is performed using a train-performance simulator, and the simulation accuracy can be increased because the weight in each phase can be adopted in the simulation.
