To evaluate the effect of vital tooth bleaching agent and alcohol pretreatment on dentin bonding, flat dentin windows were produced on the buccal side of the crowns of fifty-five extracted, human premolars. A bleaching gel, $Opalescence^{(R)}$ with 10% of carbamide peroxide (Ultradent Product, USA) was daily applied on the teeth of three experimental groups for six hours for 10 consecutive days, while teeth of a control group were not bleached. After 6 hours of bleaching gel application the specimens were washed and stored in saline until the next day application. After application of $One-step^{(R)}$ dentin bonding agent (Bisco, USA), $Z-250^{(R)}$ resin (3M-ESPE, USA) was bonded to dentin with a mount jig. Shear bond strength was measured with an Instron machine (Type 4202, Instron Corp., USA) after 24 hours. The results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test at p < 0.05. Immediate bonding group showed significantly lower bond strength than un-bleached control group (p < 0.05). Ethanol-treated group showed significantly higher bond strength compared to immediate bonding group (p < 0.05). However, the bond strength of the ethanol treatment group was lower than that of the un-bleached control group (p < 0.05). There were no significant difference in shear bond strength between the 2-week delayed bonding group and the ethanol-treated group (p > 0.05) and between delayed bonding group and un-bleached control group (p > 0.05). In the condition of the present study. it seems that alcohol pretreatment after bleaching procedure can reduce the adverse effect of vital bleaching agent on dentin bonding.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of various surface treatment methods on the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets in vitro. Ninety six specimens, 6 mm in diameter and 5 mm in height, were made with composite resin ($Filtek^{TM}$ Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, USA) and treated with an aging procedure. After aging, the specimens were randomly separated in six groups: (1) control with no surface treatment, (2) 37% phosphoric acid gel, (3) 4% hydrofluoric acid gel, (4) sodium bicarbonate particle abrasion, (5) diamond bur, and (6) 1 W carbon dioxide laser for 5s. The metal brackets were bonded to composite surfaces by means of an orthodontic adhesive (Transbond XT, 3M Unitek, USA). Shear bond strength values were evaluated with a universal testing machine (R&B Inc., Korea). Analysis of variance showed a significant difference between the groups. Group 5 had the highest mean shear bond strength (11.9 MPa), followed by group 6 (11.1 MPa). Among the experimental groups, group 2 resulted in the weakest mean shear bond strength (5.22 MPa). The results of this study suggest that the repair shear bond strength of the aged composite resin was acceptable by surface treatment with a carbon dioxide laser.
The purpose of this study was to compare the degree of microleakage of Glass-Ionomer root canal sealer possessed several enviable properties with that of the other sealers and to evaluate clinical performance. One hundred twenty single-rooted teeth were used in this experiment. The teeth were cleaned mechanically and immersed for 24 hours in 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and clinical crowns then were removed. After the root canals were instrumented using a step-back technique. one hundred twenty single-rooted teeth were divided into five groups of 24 in each. Group 1 : Tubli-Seal(Kerr Co., MI, U.S.A/ZOE-based), lateral condensation Group 2 : Sealapex(Kerr/Sybron, Romulus, MI/ $Ca(OH)_2$-based), lateral condensation Group 3 : AH 26(De Trey Co., Zurich Switzerland/Resin-based), lateral condensation Group 4 : Ketac-Endo(ESPE GMBH & CO. KG Seefeld:oberbay. Germany/ Glass Ionomer Cement-based), lateral condensation Control group : no sealer. lateral condensation And then. the root canals were obturated by lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha and experimental sealers. The control group were obturated without sealer. The teeth were placed in a vacuum chamber for 15 minutes and immersed 2% methylene blue under vacuum for 15 minutes. The teeth were passively stained for 1 week and 2 weeks and were cleared and evaluated for linear dye leakage using Tool maker's microscope(${\times}200$). The results were as follows: 1. There were statistically significant differences in the degree of dye penetration between the control group and experimental groups(p<0.05). 2. In the experimental groups, Sealapex($1.2871{\pm}0.9180mm$) exhibited the lowest mean value of dye penetration, followed by Ketac-Endo($1.4432{\pm}0.8082mm$), AH 26($1.5030{\pm}0.7752mm$) and Tubli-Seal($1.6458{\pm}1.0292mm$)(p>0.05). 3. There were statistically significant differences in the variation of microleakage between 1 week and 2weeks in Tubli-Seal and Seal apex groups (p<0.05). 4. The degree of dye penetration of all groups were increased as the time elapsed and AH 26 showed the lowest variation(+0.11) and Tubli-Seal(+ 1.03) showed the highest variation (p<0.001).
The purpose of this study was to compare the push-out strength of a fiber post cemented with various resin cements. Newly extracted 36 human mandibular premolars which had single root canal were selected and their crown portions were removed. The root canal was instrumented using $PROTAPER^{TM}$ system and obturated using continuous wave technique. In each root, a 9-mm deep post space was prepared. #2 translucent fiber post (DT Light post, Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, IL, U.S.A.) was cemented using injection technique with Uni-dose needle tip (Bisco) and six different resin cements. The tested resin cements were Duo-Link (Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, IL, U.S.A.), Variolink II (Ivoclar-Vivadent AG, Schann, Liechtenstein), Panavia F (Kuraray Medical Inc., Okayama, Japan), Multilink Automix (Ivoclar-Vivadent AG, Schann, Liechtenstein), RelyX Unicem (3M ESPE Dental Products, St. Paul, MN, U.S.A.), and Maxcem (Kerr Co., CA, U.S.A.). After storage in distilled water for 24 hours, each root was transversally sectioned into approximately 1-mm thick sections. This procedure resulted in 6 serial sections per root. Push-out test wasperformed using a universal testing machine (EZ Test, Shimadzu Co.) with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. The data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD (p=0.05). The push-out strength of the groups which cemented fiber post with Panavia F and Multilink Automix were lower than those of the other groups. But, there were no statistically significant difference among groups at a probability level of 0.05.
The purpose of this study is to compare the shear bond strength of repaired composite resin with different bonding agents and evaluate the effect of bonding agents on composite repair strength. Forty composite specimens (Z-250) were prepared and aged for 1 week by thermo cycling between 5 and $55^{\circ}C$ with a dwell time of 30s. After air abrasion with $50\;{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide, following different bonding agents were applied (n = 10); SB group: Scotchbond multipurpose adhesive (3 step Total-Etch system); XE group: Clearfil SE bond (2 step Self-Etch system); XP group: XP bond (2 step Total-Etch system); XE group: Xeno III (1 step Self-Etch system). After bonding procedure was completed, new composite resin (Z-250) was applied to the mold and cured. For control group. 10 specimens were prepared. Seven days after repair, shear bond strength was measured. Data was statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (p<0.05). The means and standard deviations of shear bond strength (MPa ${\pm}$ S.D.) per group were as follows: SB group: 17.06; SE group: 19.10; XP group: 14.44; XE group: 13.57; Control Group: 19.40. No significant difference found in each group. Within the limit of this study, it was concluded that the different type of bonding system was not affect on the shear bond strength of repaired composite resin.
MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ceramics have a long history in fixed prosthodontics for achieving optimal esthetics and various materials have been used to improve ceramic core strength. However, there is a lack of information on how color is affected by fabrication procedure. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of various dentin ceramic thicknesses and repeated firings on the color of zirconium oxide all-ceramic system (LavaTM) fabricated using CAD/CAM technology. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty disc-shaped cores, 12 mm in diameter with a 1 mm thickness were fabricated from zirconium oxide based all ceramic systems ($Lava^{TM}$, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) and divided into three groups (n = 10) according to veneering with dentin ceramic thicknesses: as 0.5, 1, or 1.5 mm. Repeated firings (3, 5, 7, or 9) were performed, and the color of the specimens was compared with the color after the initial firing. Color differences among ceramic specimens were measured using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade, VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad $S{\ddot{a}}ckingen$, Germany) and data were expressed in CIELAB system coordinates. A repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test were used to analyze the data (n = 10, ${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. $L^{\ast}a^{\ast}b^{\ast}$ values of the ceramic systems were affected by the number of firings (3, 5, 7, or 9 firings) (P<.001) and ceramic thickness (0.5, 1, or 1.5 mm) (P<.001). Significant interactions were present in $L^{\ast}a^{\ast}b^{\ast}$ values between the number of firings and ceramic thickness (P<.001). An increase in number of firings resulted in significant increase in $L^{\ast}$ values for both 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm thicknesses (P<.01, P=.013); however it decreased for 1 mm thickness (P<.01). The $a^{\ast}$ values increased for 1 mm and 1.5 mm thicknesses (P<.01), while it decreased for 0.5 mm specimens. The $b^{\ast}$ values increased significantly for all thicknesses (P<.01, P=.022). As the dentin ceramic thickness increased, significant reductions in $L^{\ast}$ values (P<.01) were recorded. There were significant increases in both $a^{\ast}$ and $b^{\ast}$ values (P<.01) as the dentin ceramic thickness increased. CONCLUSION. The number of firings and dentin ceramic thickness have a definite effect on the final color of all ceramic system tested. The mean ${\Delta}E$ value increased as the dentin ceramic thicknesses increased for zirconium-oxide based all ceramic specimens tested. However, the mean ${\Delta}E$ values were less than 3.7${\Delta}E$ units which is rated as a match in the oral environment.

Purpose: This investigation was designed to determine the translucency and color stability of various core ceramics for all-ceramic restoration using the CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ system. Material and Methods: IPS e.max Press ceramic(Ivoclar-Vivadent, Liechtenstein), $LAVA^{TM}$ All Ceramic(3M-Espe, Germany), Cercon Smart Ceramic(Dentsply, Germany), and Z-match Ceramic(DentAim, Korea) were used for this study. For the specimens of zirconia oxide ceramics, the as-sintered cylindrical blanks($11.0{\times}25.0mm$) were machined into the shape of a disk(0.4, 0.8, 1.5 mm in thickness, 10 mm in diameters) with a diamond grind machine. The IPS e.max Press specimens ($0.8{\times}10mm$) were fabricated using the "lost wax" technique. CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ coordinates and light transmission were recorded for each specimen with a spectrophotometer(CM-2600d, Minolta, Japan). Color differences were calculated using the equation, ${\Delta}E^*ab=[({\Delta}L^*)2+({\Delta}a^*)2+({\Delta}b^*)2]1/2$. Results: The results were obtained as follows: 1. The most translucent group was IPS e.max Press ceramic that is a glass-ceramic, and $Lava^{TM}$ and Z-match ceramic were more translucent than Cercon Smart ceramic in zirconia ceramic group. 2. In the all groups, there was no significant translucent change after 6 times heat-treatments required to make a final restoration. 3. Colored zirconia was showed more yellowish and dark than uncolored zirconia. 4. After heat-pressing, IPS e.max Press ceramic was showed high ${\Delta}E^*ab$ value(4.1 of eM1, 6.8 of eM2) that means to be more whiter than before heat-pressing. However, there was no color change after additive heat treatments for final restoration. 5. In the colored zirconia groups, there was no significant color change after some heat-treatments required to make a final restoration.

Purpose: This article attempted to examine how teeth for restoration is made in a clinical practice and utilize it as future educational material of teeth formation and basic data for additional research. Materials and methods: This experiment investigated the models sent to milling center for production of zirconia crowns. After scanned with Lava CAD/CAM System (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany), they are measured on 'ImageJ (version 1.32j, National Institutes of Health, USA)' program and compared and analyzed. Convergence angle from mesio-distal surfaces and bucco-lingual surfaces of each teeth are measured. Also, bucco-lingual diameter of the region lowered as much as 0.4 mm from incisal edge in anterior teeth except canines.(This measure is defined as the Peak 0.4) The analysis of data between each group was conducted by Windows SPSS statistic program, and was proved significant on 95% confidence level by independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple analysis (Sheff${\'{e}}$ test). Results: The mean value of convergence angle was $18.67^{\circ}$ It is ranked as molar ($26.70^{\circ}$) > premolar ($16.87^{\circ}$) > anterior teeth ($14.81^{\circ}$) in the order of mesio-distal convergence angle; anterior teeth ($22.32^{\circ}$) > molar ($20.93^{\circ}$) > premolar ($15.41^{\circ}$) in the order of bucco-lingual convergence angle. The mean value of Peak 0.4 was 1.18 mm. Conclusion: Convergence angle of abutment of zirconia all ceramic crown has difference depending on the location in the arch. Due to the nature of production of zirconia all ceramic crown, convergence angle of abutment and line angle finishing degree can have an effect on internal suitability of restoration.
Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of adhesion variables such as the priming concepts of canal wall and the curing modes of adhesives on the sealing ability of a resin-based root canal filling system. Materials and Methods: Apical microleakage of the Resilon-RealSeal systems filled with 3 different combinations of adhesion variables was compared with the conventional gutta-percha filling using a dye penetration method. Experimental groups were SEDC, Resilon (Resilon Research LLC) filling with self-etch RealSeal (SybronEndo) primer and dual-cure RealSeal sealer; NELC, Resilon filling with no etching, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (3M ESPE) primer application and light-curing adhesive; and TELC, Resilon filling with Scotchbond Multi-Purpose primer and adhesive used under total etch / wet bonding and lightcure protocols. GPCS, gutta-percha filling with conventional AH26 plus sealer, was the control group. Results: The median longitudinal dye penetration length of TELC was significantly shorter than those of GPCS and SEDC (Kruskal-Wallis test, p < 0.05). In the cross-sectional microleakage scores, TELC showed significant differences from other groups at 2 to 5 mm from the apical foramen (Kruskal-Wallis test, p < 0.05). Conclusions: When a resin-based root canal filling material was used, compared to the self-etching primer and the dual-cure sealer, the total etch/wet-bonding with primer and light-curing of adhesive showed improved apical sealing and was highly recommended.
