  • Nowadays, many commercial ERP products, such as Oracle, SAP, and Baan, etc, are designed based on large-scaled companies. It is difficult for small and medium-size companies with weakness in budgets and resources(e.g., human, organization, technique, and so on) to use them as it was. So, new ERP system need to be provided for small and medium-size companies. In this paper, we model and provide a conceptual ERP model for small and medium-size companies by using "4+1 View" architecture model of Unified Modeling Language(UML). The conceptual ERP model consists of five subsystems: Manufacturing, Sales, HumanResource and Payroll, Accounting, and Trading. Especially, we describe the conceptual ERP model focusing on "Manufacturing" subsystem by using several diagrams of UML. By using the conceptual ERP model, the ERP system′s developers of small and medium-size companies can obtain many benefits: improving the efficiency of software developing process and helping user requirements gathering and description of ERP system′s nonfunctional aspect as well as functional aspect.

  • The competitiveness of a corporate has always been an endeavor factor in the field of Business Management and with introduction of computer, various system; Decision Support System. Executive Information System. Management Information System has dramatically improved the competitiveness. According to the environmental change, organizational complexity. rapid information technology development. it is accelerated to introduce the Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) System. ERP System is considered as an important tool for management innovation. Korean enterprises have been adopting ERP to reinforce competitive power and to realize global standardization in recent years. This study on the performance of ERP Systems is designed to take a look at the importance, outcome factors of information system, the quality measurement of the information system, and breaking the quality of the information system into system quality, information quality.

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a software that manages and automate the internal processes of an organization. Process speed and quality can be increased, and cost reduced by process automation. Odoo is an open source ERP platform including more than 15000 apps. ERP systems such as Odoo are all-in-one management systems. Odoo can be suitable for small and medium organizations, but duo to efficiency limitations, Odoo is not suitable for the large ones. Furthermore, Odoo can be implemented on both local or public servers in which each has some advantages and disadvantages such as; the speed of internet, synced data or anywhere access. In many cases, there is a persistent need to have more than one synchronized Odoo instance in several physical places. We modified Odoo to support this kind of requirements and improve its efficiency by replacing its standard database with a distributed one, namely CockroachDB.

  • Purpose Though many information systems researchers have made various attempts to investigate the relationship between information technology capability and firm performance from diverse perspectives, we have not come to a conclusion yet with some mixed results. In this research, focusing on the adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems by firms as a proxy measure for information technology capability, we reexamine whether the association is significantly positive. Design/methodology/approach Previous research on this topic had some limitations to the samples and analysis method. Some research focused only on the 1990s or early 2000s, and other studies failed to adequately compare the impact of ERP adoption on firm performance between the treatment group and the control group. In this research, extending previous analysis approaches with the matched sample comparison of IT leaders and the control group, we attempt to apply propensity score matching in combination with difference-in-difference analysis with a sample of Korean firms that adopted ERP systems in the late 2000s. We match ERP adopters and non-adopters with propensity score matching and compare their financial performance with difference-in-difference estimation between the pre- and post-adoption periods. Findings According to our analysis, we find no positive and significant relationship between ERP adoption and firm performance in profit ratios. This research shows that, contrary to the era of proprietary information systems, standardized information systems today have no additional competitive advantages over competitors.

  • Recently, the Korean Hotel market has expanded to Asia rapidly including China. However Korean hotels' competitiveness has weaken with Korean won's appreciation and increasing real estate cost. To cope with these problems, Korean hotels are varying and differentiating their services and adopting advanced information system such as ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) System. ERP Systems requires large amount of cost and time, otherwise successful implementation is not guaranteed. Thus, It is necessary to analyze critical success factors and calculate effect before investment on the ERP system implementation. In this study, I surveyed a Five-star ranked Hotel, named R. To find a method of investment effect calculation. This research is conducted on the basis of previous studies and AHP(analytic hierarchical process), which is suggested by Saaty. Finally, This study presents a significant method of analysis and calculation on investment effect of Hotel's ERP system based on the Hotel R's case.

  • Despite all attempts to prevent fraud, it continues to be a major threat to industry and government. Traditionally, organizations have focused on fraud prevention rather than detection, to combat fraud. In this paper we present a role mining inspired approach to represent user behaviour in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, primarily aimed at detecting opportunities to commit fraud or potentially suspicious activities. We have adapted an approach which uses set theory to create transaction profiles based on analysis of user activity records. Based on these transaction profiles, we propose a set of (1) anomaly types to detect potentially suspicious user behaviour, and (2) scenarios to identify inadequate segregation of duties in an ERP environment. In addition, we present two algorithms to construct a directed acyclic graph to represent relationships between transaction profiles. Experiments were conducted using a real dataset obtained from a teaching environment and a demonstration dataset, both using SAP R/3, presently the predominant ERP system. The results of this empirical research demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • Although information communication technology (ICT) is long regard as very useful tool in today's construction engineering and project management environment, organizations must not only operate based upon its original setting, but also requires on-going observation, additional features and fine-tuning actions before the desirable outcome can be achieved. However, it is a very common phenomenon that organizations purchase the licensed "off-the-shelf-software" package and customize it to suit their own business need. Due to the incapability of such software and inefficient customization, the possible result is making that ICT tool not user-friendly and sometimes the whole system becomes obsolete. The purpose of this paper is to review and report those actions taken (between February 2006 and December 2010) by a construction organization to enhance the performance of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system launched in December 2002. Such actions include: improving data inputting method; removing the transition bottleneck; introducing crystallization function; revising the organization's "Delegation and Limits of Authority"; publishing the "League Table" amongst users; integrating the 3D Mode into the system and upgrading hardware. Whilst the ultimate goals of such system are well beyond the time limit of this research study, an obvious interim result, achieved by this case studied organization, was winning a landmark project worth US$500 million after the ERP system was functioned properly and effectively. Their experience and success becomes an exemplar which can be borrowed by those companies, from managerial perspectives and as a roadmap, planning to adopt information technology (IT) strategy and use ICT tool in the construction engineering and project management framework.
