In this study, an overview of the Earth Observing System (EOS) program is provided with discussions on its spacecrafts and instruments, and on the scientific issues. The EOS satellites aim at monitoring the Earth environmental system by observing parameters of subsystems such as atmosphere, ocean, land, and biosphere. The first EOS flagship, Terra, was launched on December 1999. Five instruments onboard Terra can measure cloud and aerosol properties, radiation, terrestrial surface, and ocean color. The second EOS flagship, Aqua, which was launched on May 2002, loads six instruments that measure clouds, radiation, precipitation, terrestrial surface, ocean color and sea surface temperature. The observational data available from the EOS satellites may complement data from the Communication-Oceanography-Meteorology satellite, which will be launched in 2008, for meteorological and environmental forecasts.

Satrec Initiative successfully developed a high-resolution electro-optical camera system, EOS-D Ver.1.0. EOS-D Ver.1.0 is the main payload of DubaiSat-2 and Deimos-2, which are developed based on the SI-300 platform of Satrec Initiative. After the launch and early operation (LEOP) of DubaiSat-2 and Deimos-2, we performed refocusing for the telescope of EOS-D Ver.1.0 to compensate for the dimensional change of its metering structure by moisture out-gassing. Before and after refocusing, we conducted the performance evaluation of thermal control system(TCS) for EOS-D Ver.1.0 using the in-orbit telemetry data. The evaluation showed EOS-D Ver.1.0 was under well-controlled thermal environment, which demonstrates TCS was designed and developed to meet all requirements.
Early onset scoliosis (EOS) describes the onset of scoliosis before the age of 10 years and is associated with significant health risks. Compared to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, studies on the etiology of EOS in children are more common. EOS includes inhomogeneous groups of patients, and the etiology of EOS may be congenital, neuromuscular, syndromic, or idiopathic. The identification of the molecular etiology underlying patients with EOS has been increasing. This could provide valuable information for optimizing the management and care of these children. In this review, EOS was reviewed from a medical genomic perspective.

Satrec Initiative successfully developed and verified a high-resolution electro-optical camera system, EOS-D Ver.1.0. We designed this system to give improved spatial and radiometric resolution compared with EOS-C series systems. The thermal control subsystem (TCS) of the EOS-D Ver.1.0 uses heaters to meet the opto-mechanical requirements during in-orbit operation and uses different thermal coatings and multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets to minimize the heater power consumption. Also, we designed and verified a refocusing mechanism to compensate the misalignment caused by moisture desorption from the metering structure. We verified the design margin and workmanship by conducting the qualification level thermal vacuum test. We also performed the verification of thermal math model (TMM) by comparing with thermal balance test results. As a result, we concluded that it faithfully represents the thermal characteristics of the EOS-D Ver.1.0.

Eosinophils are known to be important effector cells in pathogenesis of asthma. The elucidation of mechanism by which eosinophil survival is regulated in vivo at sites of inflammation is critical tn our understanding of asthma pathogenesis. The maintenance of these cells at site of inflammation depends upon tile balance between its tendency to undergo apoptosis and tile local eosinophil-viability enhancing activity, Qualitative and quantative phenotypic differences have been observed between bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and peripheral blood (PB) eosinophils (EOS). We hypothesize that BAL EOS Possess altered functional feature compared to PB EOS. BAL and PB EOS were obtained from ragweed allergic asthmatics after segmental antigen challenge (SAC) at 24 hour or one week, and purified over percoll and CDl6 negative selection. Cells were cultured in duplicate in RPMI, 15% FCS and 1% penicillin/streptomycin without exogenous cytokines. Eosinophil purity and viability was >92%. BAL. EOS viability was 69${\pm}$4.4% versus 39${\pm}$1.6% for PB EOS (p<0.005) at 48 hour time point, and this difference was maintained through day 5 (32${\pm}$7.6% vs. 3.0${\pm}$ 1.4%, p<0.05), Among BAL EOS, those harvested one week after SAC appeared to have an prolonged survival compared to those harvested at 24 hour. Coculture of BAL and PB EOS resulted in significant viability enhancement than expecteed. Direct neutralization of GM-CSF activity, not IL-3 and EL-5, markedly decreased tile survival of BAL EOS in culture, and abrogated tile viability enhancing activity of their culture supernatants in a dose dependent manner. We conclude that BAL EOS activated in vivo possess enhanced viability compared to PB EOS. Mixing and neutralization experiments suggest a role for autocrine production of GM-CSF.

Many researches on alternative materials as construction materials is continuing by recycling industrial byproducts due to shortage of sitereclamation and natural aggregates. In this paper, engineering properties in early-aged OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) and GGBFS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) concrete are evaluated with EOS aggregate replacement. The related experiments were carried out with 0.6 of water to binder ratio, three levels of EOS replacement ratios (0%, 30% and 50%) for fine aggregate, and two levels of cement replacement with GGBFS (0% and 40%). Several tests such as slump air content, and unit mass measurement are performed for fresh concrete, and compressive strength and diffusion coefficient referred to NT BUILD 492 method are measured for hardened concrete. Through the tests, it was evaluated that the compressive strength in concrete with EOS aggregate increased to 3 days and 7 days but slightly decreased at the age of 28 days. In the accelerated chloride penetration test, GGBFS concrete showed reduced diffusion coefficients by 60 - 67% compared with OPC concrete. The lowest chloride diffusion coefficient was evaluated in the 50% replacement with EOS aggregate, which showed an applicability of EOS aggregate to concrete production.
Essential oils (EOs) have gained a renewed interest in many disciplines such as plant disease control and medicine. This review discusses the components of ginger EOs, their mode of action, and their potential nanotechnology applications in controlling tropical plant diseases. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography, and headspace procedures are commonly used to detect and profile their chemical compositions EOs in ginger. The ginger EOs are composed of monoterpenes (transcaryophyllene, camphene, geranial, eucalyptol, and neral) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (α-zingiberene, ar-curcumene, β-bisabolene, and β-sesquiphellandrene). GC-MS analysis of the EOs revealed many compounds but few compounds were revealed using the headspace approach. The EOs have a wide range of activities against many phytopathogens. EOs mode of action affects both the pathogen cell's external envelope and internal structures. The problems associated with solubility and stability of EOs had prompted the use nanotechnology such as nanoemulsions. The use of nanoemulsion to increase efficiency and supply of EOs to control plant diseases control was discussed in this present paper. The findings of this review paper may accelerate the effective use of ginger EOs in controlling tropical plant diseases.
As a former level of MSC(Multi Spectral Camera) telescope of the KOMPSA T2satellite, the several performance tests of EOS(Electro Optical Subsystem) were performed in the EOS level. By these tests, not only the design requirement of payload can be verified but also the test result can be the important criterion to estimate the performance of payload in the launch and space orbit environment. The EOS Geometric Mapping test is to verify the accuracy of the alignment & assembly on the Subsystem of the MSC by measurement like these; LOS(Line of Sight), LOD(Line of Detector), Band to Band Registration, Optical Distortion and Reference Cube. This paper describes the test results and the analysis for the EOS Geometric Mapping.
Cubic and non-cubic equations of state are used to calculate the vapor-liquid equilibrium(VLE) compositions for liquified natural gas(LNG) containing hydrogen sulfide. Modified Benedict-Web-Robin EOS is chosen as a non-cubic equation of state while Peng-Robinson, Soave-Redlich-Kwong EOS are used for a cubic EOS. Modified Benedict-Web-Robin EOS. showed better predictability than the cubic EOS used for the systems $H_2S/CH_4,\;H_2S/iC_4H_{10},\;H_2S/N_2$. specially for liquid composition.

A high-resolution electro-optical camera (EOS-C Ver.3.0), the mission payload of an Earth observation satellite, is under development in Satrec Initiative. We designed this system to give improved thermal performance compared with the EOS-C Ver.2.0 which is the main payload of DubaiSat-1 by optimizing the active and passive thermal control design. We developed the Structural-Thermal Model (STM) and verified the design margin by performing the qualification level thermal vacuum test. We also conducted the verification of its Thermal Mathematical Model (TMM) through the thermal balance test. As a result, it was confirmed that TMM faithfully represents the thermal characteristics of the EOS-C Ver.3.0.
