  • This paper presents the new technique of modeling using Dynamic Link Library(DLL) in ElectroMagnetic Transients Program - Restructured Version(EMTP-RV) in which we have simplified the procedures of OverCurrent Relay(OCR) modeling. The DLL function is designed to allow EMTP-RV users to develop advanced program model modules and interface them directly and intimately with the EMTP-RV engine. The modeled OCR is verified by simulating the various fault cases in the distribution system. Also, the performance for the modeling of OCR using DLL is compared with that of the method using the control components of EMTP-RV and using EMTP/MODELS. The results show the validity of modeled OCR and the effectiveness of the method using DLL function.

  • There are several overvoltages by abnormal conditions in power system. We need to calculate these ovevoltages for the insulation design and the fault analysis. For these calculations, we used EMTP(Electro-magnetic Transients Program). During EMTP calculations, the accurate modelling of the equipments is very important for analysis results. In this paper, we considered the effects of the modelling condition's changes for transmission line within EMTP modelling cases of overvoltage analysis. Specially, we considered CB closing cases of 765[kV] system. So, we had changed the calculation frequencies of Line Constants, which is used for CB closing cases. In addition, we compared the calculation result and the measured result.

  • This paper propose methods to implement operation of underfrequency relay using EMTP MODELS. Simulation results shows the operation of the frequency relay as well as the status of generator and power systems. The simulation method described in this paper can thus be employed as a very useful tool in the testing of frequency relay algorithms and/or in the development of any new ones.

  • This paper suggests an improved technique to establish the modeling regarding steady and transient state on three phase-in one cryostat type HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable. The proposed modeling is established using EMTP/ATPDraw and TACS and MODELS provided by that. It has higher accuracy than the conventional method, as the actual HTS cable is modelled. Steady and transient state analysis performed by EMTP/ATPDraw calculate the current of conductor, shield and former, respectively. In case of the transient state modeled quench state occurred by a single line-to-ground fault, current of conductor shield and former are also calculated, respectively. Especially, various fault resistances and angles are considered to improve the reliability during transient state analysis. Analysis results reveal that the proposed technique improves the accuracy of modeling.

  • For the improvement of an adaptive SPAR(Single-Phase Auto-Reclosure) and novel protection schemes, it is important to simulate arc faults. But, it is difficult to reproduce the real arc behaviour, i.e. the extinction phenomenon exactly by computer simulations due to extremely random behavior of secondary arc. This paper proposes a new computer modeling techniques for the primary and the secondary arc separately, which can be implemented with EMTP MODELS routine, and the performance of the proposed model is simulated on a typical 154 [kV] korean transmission line system.

  • Voltage instability has been studied for some decade now. But, there is not generally accepted definition of voltage instability because of the complex phenomenon and the variety of ways in which it can manifest itself. Both IEEE and CIGRE have the respective definitions. The areas of voltage instability research arc the analysis, simulation and countermeasure of voltage instability. In this paper, we perform a dynamic simulation of voltage instability and voltage collapse using EMTP MODELS. The exponential load model is designed with MODELS and this load model is connected with test power system. The result shows the process of voltage change in time domain when the voltage instability or voltage collapse occurs.

  • The primary windings of the main transformer for rolling stock have several natural frequencies that can occur internal resonance with transient voltages induced on a high voltage feeding line. Factory testing is limited in its ability to determine whether or not transient voltage with various shape and duration can be excitable. This study presents the design of a high voltage windings model and simulation and analysis of the internal resonant characteristics in terms of the initial voltage distribution and voltage-frequency relationship using the electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). Turn-based lumped-parameters are calculated using the geometry data of the transformer. And, sub-models, being grouped into the total number of layers, are composed using a ladder-network model and implemented by the library function of EMTP. Case studies are used to show the layer-based voltage-frequency relationship characteristics according to the frequency sweep and the voltage escalation and distribution aspects in time-domain simulation.

  • In this study, the design methodology of LCL filter for grid-connected three-phase inverter was studied. First, the advantages and disadvantages of applying typical filter structures as a filter for grid connection of a three-phase inverter were analyzed. Next, filter design methodologies for grid connection of a three-phase inverter were analyzed, and an effective filter design methodology was determined to satisfy the harmonic requirements in grid connection. In order to verify the effectiveness of the design methodology, EMTP models such as a three-phase inverter, a three-phase LCL filter, and a performance evaluation system to evaluate the performance of the designed filter were developed using EMTP-RV. Next, an LCL filter was designed for an application example of a three-phase inverter, and the waveforms of the output voltage and outage current of the three-phase inverter were checked through EMTP-RV simulation work. In particular, the validity of the design methodology was verified by confirming that the magnitude of the current ripple was reduced to a limited magnitude through waveform analysis of the output current.
