A Vacuum Circuit Breaker Model for simulation of Transient Overvoltages Using the PSCAD/EMTDC (PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용한 과도전압 모의를 위한 진공차단기 모델 개발)

  • A Vacuum Circuit Breaker Model for simulation of transient overvoltages was developed by using the PSCAD/EMTDC. The Model includes the power frequency chopping current. Breaker withstand voltage, and quenching capability of High frequency currents. To verify the abilities of the breaker model, the simulation on the Lindmayer's single-phase circuit was carried out. The results show that using the proposed model, the transient overvoltages, current chopping, and multiple reignitions of vacuum breaker are properly reproduced as real phenomena. In further study, virtual chopping current will be incorporated into the model for 3 phase system.

  • Recently, an SVC(Static Var Compensator) was installed at Seo-daegu substation in order to maintain the voltage level and reserve stability margin of the Korean Power System. This paper deals with the development of the simulation model for the Seo-daegu SVC. As a simulation platform, PSCAD/EMTDC is adopted and library components for the SVC are developed. The model includes detailed control system functions of Seo-daegu SVC. In order to verify the developed model, simulation results are compared with the TNA test performed by ABB. The results show a good agreement of the developed model with the real system.

  • This paper presents the design of DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator) controller. The results are verified by using PSCAD/EMTDC package. The state equation derived by decomposition analysis of DSTATCOM current component is applied to load model and the combined model which considered constraint condition. In case of single line to ground fault, the conventional method of Pl control is compared with LQR control technique. LQR control is shown to be superior in terms of response profile and composition of voltage sag.

  • In recent years, with the continuous development of modem power system, the need for high performance protection to meet the customers' requests for more stable and reliable power supply has become increasingly emphasized. So, there is urgent need for a proper testing platform about not only existing digital protection relay but also new digital protection relay on the transmission line. It is also dynamic-state test which can test the performance of digital relay. This paper suggests basic system model for testing transmission line protection using PSCAD/EMTDC, and presents the process of the component modeling in the basic system.

  • This paper describes a computer model of the secondary arc associated with single pole switching scheme to use in system simulation studies. The computer model is based on the mathematical model described by A.T.Johns, et.al[3], and is implemented by the EMTDC which is similar to the Electro Magnetic Transient Program(EMTP). Simulation results using the computer model compare with a previous simulation and field test results.

  • In this paper, doubly-fed induction-type wind power generation system simulation model for grid connection is developed. The simulation model is based on PSCAD/EMTDC and consists of rotor-blade, generator, power converter and controller. Simulation results are shown for the variable wind speed conditions. The simulation model can be utilized for study of actual interaction between wind turbine and grid for reliable operation and protection of power system.

  • In general, the PSS/E program based on RMS mathematical models is used for analyzing the steady state and transient stability phenomena of full-scale large power system. Whereas, the EMTDC program unlike PSS/E, studies the specific reduced small-scale power systems as a basis of instantaneous value mathematical models and used to analyze the Electro-Magnetic transient characteristics. The PSS/E provides various control models such as exciter, governor and PSS models, But there are few control models in EMTDC. In this paper, we developed EMTDC models for governor which have been applied in KEPCO system. The EMTDC models are developed by examining PSS/E control block and using User Define Model in addition to default.lib provided by EMTDC. we verify the correctness of developed governor models with PSS/E and EMTDC simulation results using Governor Step(GSTEP) method.

  • KERISIM(KERI Simulator)은 한국전기연구소가 개발한 회전기형 시뮬레이터로서 AC/DC 비동기 연계계통을 포함한 복합계통의 다양한 동태현상에 대한 분석이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 한국전기연구소의 전력계통 분석용 시뮬레이터에 대한 EMTDC 해석모델을 개발하고 이를 활용하여 상정사고 해석을 수행함으로써 제어기 설계를 위한 성능시험을 할 수 있는 기본 바탕을 마련하였다. 즉, KERISIM을 구성하고 있는 개별 기기들의 설계사양을 기술하였으며, EMTDC 해석모델의 구성요소들을 살펴보았다. 이와 같이 개발된 EMTDC 모델를 활용하여 Rectifier 및 Inverter측 교류모선에서 3상고장 상정사고 해석을 수행하였으며, 그 해석결과를 분석하였다.

  • So far, it was very difficult to simulate the dispersed generation system including PV generation system using EMTP or EMTDC because the source of the dispersed generation system has a particular VI characteristic equation. In this paper, a novel simulation method of PV generation system has proposed and a new solar cell component for EMTDC is also developed. The VI characteristic equation of solar cell is used in order to realize the solar generation system in EMTDC simulation. Consequently the simulation of PV power generation system using field data is realized and acceptable results, which show close match between the real data of PV panel and the simulated data, were obtained.
