Machining Properties to Nano-Level Mirror Surface Finishing for Fine Grained WC-Co 18% Alloy using Magnetic Polishing Slurry (자성연마슬러리를 이용한 초미립 초경합금(WC-Co 18%)의 나노급 경면가공 특성)

  • This study has been focused on an effective surface finishing method combining ELID (ELectrolytic In-process Dressing) and MAP (Magnetic Assisted Polishing) for the nano-precision mirror grinding of glass-lens molding mould. ELID grinding is an excellent technique for mirror grinding of various advanced metallic or nonmetallic materials. A polishing process is also required for elimination of scratches present on ELID grinded surfaces. MAP has been used as polishing method due to its high polishing efficiency and superior surface quality. It also presents some techniques for achieving the nanometer roughness of the hard material such as WC-Co, which are extensively used in precision tooling material.

  • Chipping is an unavoidable phenomenon in the slot grinding process of hard and brittle materials. However, it should be reduced for the improvement of surface integrity in the manufacture of optical and semiconductor components. Electrolytic In-process Dressing (ELID) technique for metal bonded superabrasive grinding wheel has been developed for mirror surface grinding of hard and brittle materials. Electrically dressed wheel surface has sharply exposed abrasives and results in lower grinding force, higher grinding efficiency in grinding. The paper deals with a newly developed method for slot grinding using ELID and was implemented to improve grooved surface quality and decreases chipping size on the edge of the groove. As a result, we accomplished chipping-free grooves and obtained the clear ground surfaces on glass and WC.

  • A highly efficient mirror surface grinding technology has been developed for hard and brittle materials various metal materials, by employing the ELID (electrolytic in-process dressing) grinding method using metal bonded grinding wheels. In this research, some typical applications of ELID-grinding for cylindrical grinding are introduced and the mirror grinding characteristics are investigated. Good results are obtained in the grinding of ceramics and tungsten carbide.

  • In this study, the grinding characteristics of CBN wheels, such as grinding force and surface roughness, have been compared and analyzed from various working conditions of spindle speed and depth of cut. To actualize high efficient grinding at ceramic and silicon nitride material, electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) method has been applied at metal bonded diamond and CBN wheels. Super precision grinding using ductile mode at difficult-ta-cut materials could be performed.

  • 최근, 제품의 다양화, 생산성향상 등의 요구에 의해 소성가공 분야인 압연가공에 있어서도 절삭가공에서와 같이 고능률, 고정도가공이 주목되고있다. 본 연구에서는 온라인 압연롤 그라인딩(On-line Roll Grinding :ORG)법에 전해인프로세스드레싱법(ELID)을 적용하여 압연롤의 경면가공을 수행하고 최종적으로 경면압연을 수행함을써 압연품의 고부가가치화를 이루고자 한다. 이를 위해 ELID법을 적용한 ORG를 제시하여 압연기에 설치하고 정압 연삭으로 압연롤의 경면가공을 실현하며, 압연시발생하는 흠집을 고능률로 제거하기 위한가공능률 평가를 중심 으로 검토하고자 한다.

  • This study focused on developing an electro-discharge truing method for the ELID grinding process using a metal-bonded grinding wheel. The truing process in grinding plays important roles in enhancing the quality of the ground surface. In this study, a reference current in the electro-discharge truing process was confirmed to be a viable solution for efficient truing through performance experiments. Current and voltage variation experiments were carried out and the variation output data were collected with a monitoring program to understand the electrodischarge phenomenon that occurs between metal-bonded grinding wheels and copper electrodes. The experimental results showed that as the reference current decreased, the average electro-discharge energy decreased. Therefore, the reference current can be used as an indicator to estimate the size of the gap between the truer and grinding wheel.

  • With increasing the needs for micro and precision parts, micro machining technology using micro tools has been studied to fabricate a small part with high density such as electronics, optics, communications, and medicine industry more than before. Though these micro tools have developed rapidly, it is difficult to apply them to micro fabrication technologies, because of the inherent manufacturing. In this study, micro tools(wc) to produce micro structures and parts were manufactured by cylindrical grinding machine employing ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) technique and good dimensional accuracy was achieved. Furthermore we researched the characteristics of machining on the micro drilling using micro drills and manufactured micro tools. Finally it is confirmed that manufactured micro tools can be used for micro machining.
