Comparison of organic EL characteristics of low mass dye and polymer material with the same chromophore (동일한 발광기를 가진 저분자색소와 고분자물질의 유기 EL특성의 비교)

  • A Polymer material, PU-BCN and a low molar mass material D-BCN with the same chromophore were evaluated by fabricating various electroluminescent(EL) devices. A molecular structure of the chromophore was composed as two cyano groups for electron-injection and transport and two triphenylamine groups for hole-injection and transport. Various kinds of EL devices with two different types of EL materials, PU-BCN and D-BCN were fabricated, which were an Indium-tin oxide(ITO)/PU-BCN or D-BCN/MgAg device as a single-layer device(SL) and an ITO/PU-BCN or D-BCN/oxadiazole ferivative/MgAg as a double-layer device(DL-E) and an ITO/triphenylamine derivative/D-BCN/MgAg as a double-layer device(DL-H) device. Two kinds of materials, PU-BCN and D-BCN showed the same emission characteristics in the high current density and excellent EL characteristics even in the SL devices. Maximum EL peaks revealed red emission of about 640 nm, which were corresponded with the fluorescence peaks of the films of two materials.

On the Development of 2012 El Niño (2012 엘니뇨의 발달 분석)

  • Using various observed data, we examined the evolution of tropical Pacific sea surface temperature (SST) during 2011-2012, with focusing on the development of 2012 El Ni$\tilde{n}$o. It is observed that a La Ni$\tilde{n}$a event during 2011 was followed by a moderate El Ni$\tilde{n}$o during 2012 summer. The 2012 summer El Ni$\tilde{n}$o initiated near the west coast of South America on February 2012, and continued to expand westward till August. Given this evolutionary pattern, the 2012 summer El Ni$\tilde{n}$o can be categorized as 'Eastern Pacific (EP) El Ni$\tilde{n}$o' because Ni$\tilde{n}$o-3 index is greater than Ni$\tilde{n}$o-4 index, and it may be the first well-defined EP El Ni$\tilde{n}$o since 2001. On February 2012, this event was initiated mainly by the local air-sea interaction, and at the same time the ocean heat content was accumulated over the tropical western Pacific due to the easterly wind anomaly over the tropical western Pacific. Then, the accumulated heat content slowly propagates to the tropical eastern Pacific, which attributes to maintain El Ni$\tilde{n}$o state during 2012 summer. After August, the positive SST anomaly over the equatorial eastern Pacific decays possibly due to the exhausted heat content and the weakening of air-sea interaction, but the weak positive SST anomaly over the central Pacific remains till now (2012 November).

Fusobacterium nucleatum GroEL signaling via Toll-like receptor 4 in human microvascular endothelial cells

  • The GroEL heat-shock protein from Fusobacterium nucleatum, a periodontopathogen, activates risk factors for atherosclerosis in human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1) and ApoE-/- mice. In this study, we analyzed the signaling pathways by which F. nucleatum GroEL induces the proinflammatory factors in HMEC-1 cells known to be risk factors associated with the development of atherosclerosis and identified the cellular receptor used by GroEL. The MAPK and NF-${\kappa}B$ signaling pathways were found to be activated by GroEL to induce the expression of interleukin-8 (IL-8), monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), E-selectin, and tissue factor (TF). These effects were inhibited by a TLR4 knockdown. Our results thus indicate that TLR4 is a key receptor that mediates the interaction of F. nucleatum GroEL with HMEC-1 cells and subsequently induces an inflammatory response via the MAPK and NF-${\kappa}B$ pathways.

  • Significant process in the performance and commercialization of full-color thin-film electroluminescent(EL) displays has been achieved. This is due to the remarkable progress made in the performance of exiting EL phosphors, development of new phosphor materials, and design of new EL phosphor structures. In this paper, we fabricated thinfilm EL devices with ZnS buffer and $BaTiO_3$ electric layer with on top and bottom of phosphor layer. The effect of ZnS and $BaTiO_3$ layer on the luminance of EL device were studied.

  • Electroluminescent(EL) devices are constructed using multilayer organic thin film. A cell structure of glass substrate/Indium-Tinoxide/TPD as a hole transporting layer/Alq3+Rhodamine 101 perchrolate(Red3) as an emitting layer/Alq3 as an electrron transporting layer/Al as an electrode was employed. Optimal thickness of emitting layer in EL cell was performed from the viewpoint of the electronics properties of emitting layers. The general vapor-deposition method was used to control the thickness of omitting layer in EL devices and electro-optical characteristics were measured. It is clarified that controlling thickness of emitting layer in vapor-deposition film had an effect on the change of carrier injection and EL spectrum. The intensity of red omission with luminance of 81cd/$m^2$ was achived at 11V driving voltage. The surface morphology of emitting layer in EL devices was investigated.

  • Escherichia coli JM83 harboring penicilin G acylase gene of Bacillus megaterium ATCC14945 produced a protein in large amount (>20% of the total protein). The protein was identified as GroEL, one of the E. coli heat shock protein, by N-terminal amino acid sequence analysis. It was found that GroEL was induced by the expressed foreign penicilin G acylase at both 27 and $37^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents the electro-luminescence (EL) display lamp which is patterned on a curved surface by the pad printing method. The printing methods, including the gravure, screen, flexo, inkjet, and pad printing, have an advantage of one-step direct patterning. However, in general, the printing and semi-conductor process, except pad printing method, cannot be applied for patterning on a curved surface. Thus, in this paper, we used pad printing method for patterning an EL display lamp on a curved surface. The EL display lamp consists of 5 layers: Bottom electrode; Dielectric layer; Phosphor; Transparent electrode; Bus electrode. Finally, we printed EL display lamp on a dish, which has a radius of curvature 80mm. The EL display lamp was driven at AC 200V of 1kHz.

  • Electroluminescent(EL) devices based on organic thin films are considered to be one of the next generation of flat-panel displays. In this paper, we have investigated electro-luminescent(EL) characteristics of organic EL device using $Alq_3$, PBD as emitting material. Current and luminance can be seen that express a similar relativity in voltage and could know that luminance is expressing current relativity.

Synthesis and EL Properties of Blue Light-emitting Poly(arylenevinylene)s

  • A series of fully conjugated polymers containing new arylenevinylene units were synthesized and their light-emitting properties were investigated. A bisphosphonate containing tetraphenyl group was made to react with three different dialdehyde monomers to produce fully conjugated alternating copolymers. The photoluminescence (PL) and the electroluminescence (EL) peak wavelengths of the polymers were varied from 500 nm to 460 nm depending on the polymer structure. Single layer EL devices using the polymers as an emissive layer have been fabricated. The single layer EL devices became visible between 12-22 V and emitted blue light.

  • In this paper, 7-segment was implemented using AC powder EL. ZnS:Cu and BaTiO3 was used as a phosphor and dielectric respectively. The preparation of phosphor and dielectric layer was performed with screen printing. The implemented system of 7-segment was divided as following; EL display, driving circuit, software for driving. The properties of fabricated devices was measured with EL spectrum and brightness.
