In the present study, a gamma-ray detector and associated signal processing circuit was developed for a side-absorber of a dual-mode Compton camera. The gamma-ray detector was made by optically coupling a CsI(Tl) scintillation crystal to a silicon photodiode. The developed signal processing circuit consists of two parts, i.e., the slow part for energy measurement and the fast part for timing measurement. In the fast part, there are three components: (1) fast shaper, (2) leading-edge discriminator, and (3) TTL-to-NIM logic converter. AC coupling configuration between the detector and front-end electronics (FEE) was used. Because the noise properties of FEE can significantly affect the overall performance of the detection system, some design criteria were presented. The performance of the developed system was evaluated in terms of energy and timing resolutions. The evaluated energy resolution was 12.0% and 15.6% FWHM for 662 and 511 keV peaks, respectively. The evaluated timing resolution was 59.0 ns. In the conclusion, the methods to improve the performance were discussed because the developed gamma-ray detection system showed the performance that could be applicable but not satisfactory in Compton camera application.
The energy spectra in the air and water of several ${\gamma}-ray$ sources such as Cr-51, Cs-137, Mn-54, Zn-65 have been investigated using the NaI(T1) scintillation detector. General response functions, which can curve fit the measured spectra, have been constructed. We have found that the constructed response functions can successfully represent the measured spectra in the water as well as in the air, It is possible, by comparing the relevant parameters of the response functions, to quantitatively characterize the changing features of the measured spectra as obtained with varying the water depth. Of the response function parameters, those which affect the shape of the full-energy Peak have most notably changed. Besides, those parameters which affect the shapes of the flat continuum, the Compton continuum and edge have also shown slight changes with varying the water depth.

The opening status of Saemangeum sluice gate is an important factor to the coastal water qualities near Saemangeum dikes. The sluice gate opening information is important in analysing current velocity and water quality data measured at the Saemanguem observation tower as well as in determining boundary conditions of numerical simulation for coastal environment outside Saemangeum dikes. This study establishes unmanned camera monitoring system on Saemangeum observation tower using mini notebook and digital camera, and extracts information on the opening status from images automatically. Images are analysed using variance difference of images together with edge detection techniques in order to get correct information.

This paper proposes a metastability-free synchronization method and a mesochronous synchronizer for NoC. It uses the clock transmitted from TX as a strobe and solves the metastability problem by selecting one of rising or falling clock edge depending on the sampling value in RX when the phase difference between clocks is under a metastability window. The logic simulation results show that it works without metastability under $0^{\circ}{\sim}360^{\circ}$ phase difference in the synchronizer that a fault is inserted. The mesochronous synchronizer has a simple control logic and is suitable for NoC.

Many libraries utilize RFID tags for checking in and out of books. However, the recognition rate of this automatic process may depend on the orientation of antennas and RFID tags. Therefore we need supplemental systems to improve the recognition rate. The proposed algorithm sets up the ROI of the book existing area from the input image and then performs Canny edge detection algorithm to extract edges of books. Finally Hough line transform algorithm allows to detect the number of books from the extracted edges. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we applied our method to 350 book images under various circumstances. We then analyzed the performance of proposed method from results using recognition and mismatch ratio. The experimental result gave us 97.1% accuracy in book counting.
In megavoltage (MV) radiotherapy, delivering the dose to the target volume is important while protecting the surrounding normal tissue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the modulation transfer function (MTF), the noise power spectrum (NPS), and the detective quantum efficiency (DQE) using an edge block in megavoltage X-ray imaging (MVI). We used an edge block, which consists of tungsten with dimensions of 19 (thickness) ${\times}$ 10 (length) ${\times}$ 1 (width) $cm^3$ and measured the pre-sampling MTF at 6 MV energy. Various radiation therapy (RT) devices such as TrueBeam$^{TM}$ (Varian), BEAMVIEW$^{PLUS}$ (Siemens), iViewGT (Elekta) and Clinac$^{(R)}$iX (Varian) were used. As for MTF results, TrueBeam$^{TM}$(Varian) flattening filter free(FFF) showed the highest values of $0.46mm^{-1}$ and $1.40mm^{-1}$ for MTF 0.5 and 0.1. In NPS, iViewGT (Elekta) showed the lowest noise distribution. In DQE, iViewGT (Elekta) showed the best efficiency at a peak DQE and $1mm^{-1}DQE$ of 0.0026 and 0.00014, respectively. This study could be used not only for traditional QA imaging but also for quantitative MTF, NPS, and DQE measurement for development of an electronic portal imaging device (EPID).
In this paper, we describe new method to detect face in real-time. We use color information, edge information, and binary information to detect candidate regions of eyes from input image, and then extract face region using the detected eye pall. We verify both eye candidate regions and face region using Support Vector Machines(SVM). It is possible to perform fast and reliable face detection because we can protect false detection through these verification processes. From the experimental results, we confirmed the proposed algorithm shows very excellent face detection performance.

Radiation pressure noise of photon and photon shot noise are quantum noise limitation in interferometric gravita-tional wave detectors. Since relationship between the two noises is position and momentum of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, quantum non-demolition (QND) technique is required to reduce the two noises at the same time. Frequency dependent squeezing using a filter cavity is one of realistic solutions for QND measurement and experimental results show that its cutting-edge performance is sufficient to apply to the current gravitational wave detectors. A 300m filter cavity is under construction at adv-LIGO. KAGRA (gravitational wave detector in Japan) has also started international collaboration to build a filter cavity. Recently we joined the filter cavity project for KAGRA. Current status of squeezing and filter cavity research at KASI and details of the KAGRA filter cavity project will be presented.

Currently, gamma nuclide analysis is mainly used using inorganic scintillators or semiconductor detectors. These detectors have high resolution but there are less economical, limited in size, and low process ability than plastic scintillators. Therefore, quantum dot-based plastic scintillator was developed using the advantages of the quantum dot nanomaterial and the conventional plastic scintillator. In this study, efficient plastic scintillator was fabricated by adding CdS/ZnS based on the most widely used Cd-based nanomaterial in a polystyrene matrix. In addition, the performance of the commercial plastic scintillator was compared and it was analyzed through radiological measurement experiments. The detection efficiency of fabricated plastic scintillator was higher than commercial plastic scintillator, EJ-200. It is believed that this fabricated plastic scintillator can be used as a radioactivity analyzer in the medical and nuclear facility fields.

The artificial captions appearing in videos include information that relates to the videos. In order to obtain the information carried by captions, many methods for caption extraction from videos have been studied. Most traditional methods of detecting caption region have used one frame. However video include not only spatial information but also temporal information. So we propose a method of detection caption region using temporal and spatial information. First, we make improved Text-Appearance-Map and detect continuous candidate regions through matching between candidate-regions. Second, we detect disappearing captions using disappearance test in candidate regions. In case of captions disappear, the caption regions are decided by a merging process which use temporal and spatial information. Final, we decide final caption regions through ANNs using edge direction histograms for verification. Our proposed method was experienced on many kinds of captions with a variety of sizes, shapes, positions and the experiment result was evaluated through Recall and Precision.
