This paper deals with the effects of various moisture environments on the structural behavior of concrete beams. The presented results were obtained within a large experimental program carried out at the Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chauss$\acute{e}$es (LCPC), with Electricit$\acute{e}$ de France (EDF) as a partner. The aim of this paper is to point out and to quantify the strains resulting from unidirectional moisture conditions: a drying gradient applied during 14 months, followed by the re-wetting of the dried surface during 9 months. The effect of reinforcement on the shrinkage and on the deformation due to water absorption is pointed out. Moreover, a lot of tests on companion cylinders and prisms were carried out to determine the mechanical characteristics of the material and help checking analysis methods. The paper focuses on numerous measurements obtained during the 23 months on one plain concrete beam and one reinforced concrete beam: variation of water content, followed by precise weighing and gammadensitometry, relative humidity measurements, local and global deformations in the three directions and deflection of the beams. Thus, the effects of drying and water absorption on the behavior of concrete structures are documented and analyzed in comparison with existing representation of water diffusion.

For successfully commercialized grid systems, it is required to provide an efficient scheduling scheme which is able to optimize benefits for three participants such as consumers, brokers, and providers so that every participant has sufficient benefit to maintain a sustainable market. In this paper, we define this job scheduling problem as an objective optimization problem for three participants. The three objectives are to maximize the success rate of job execution, total achieved profit, and the system utilization. To address the scheduling problem, we propose heuristics referred to as SLA-aware scheduling scheme (SA) for optimal resource allocation. The simulation results show that the improvement and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and the proposed scheme can outperform well-known scheduling schemes such as first come first serve (FCFS), shortest job first (SJF), and earliest deadline first (EDF).
In the framework of the European project SAMOSAFER, this numerical study focuses on some thermal aspects of the Emergency Draining Tank (EDT) located underneath the core of a Molten Salt Reactor. In case of an emergency, this tank passively receives the liquid fuel salt and is designed to ensure a subcritical state. An important requirement is that the fuel does not overheat to maintain the EDT Hastelloy container integrity. The present EDT is based upon a group of hexagonal cooling assemblies arranged in a hexagonal grid and cooled down thanks to conduction through the inert salt layer up to an air flow in charge of removing the heat. This numerical thermal study relies on a conjugated heat transfer analysis coupling a Finite Element solid thermal code (SYRTHES) and two instances of a Finite Volume CFD codes (Code_Saturne). Calculations on an initial design suggest that a simple center airpipe flow is likely to not sufficiently cool the device. Alternative solutions have been evaluated. Introduction of fins to enhance the heat transfer do not bring a noticeable improvement regarding maximum temperature reached. However, a solution in which the central pipe air flow is replaced by several cooling channels located closer to the fuel is investigated and suggests a better cooling.
The entropy-based test of fit for the inverse Gaussian distribution presented by Mudholkar and Tian(2002) can only be applied to the composite hypothesis that a sample is drawn from an inverse Gaussian distribution with both the location and scale parameters unknown. In application, however, a researcher may want a test of fit either for an inverse Gaussian distribution with one parameter known or for an inverse Gaussian distribution with both the two partameters known. In this paper, we introduce tests of fit for the inverse Gaussian distribution based on the Kullback-Leibler information as an extension of the entropy-based test. A window size should be chosen to implement the proposed tests. By means of Monte Carlo simulations, window sizes are determined for a wide range of sample sizes and the corresponding critical values of the test statistics are estimated. The results of power analysis for various alternatives report that the Kullback-Leibler information-based goodness-of-fit tests have good power.

A precise description of the material is a key point to obtain reliable results when using wave propagation codes. In the case of multipass welds, the material is very difficult to describe due to its anisotropic and heterogeneous properties. Two main advances are presented in the following. The first advance is a model which describes the anisotropy resulting from the metal solidification and thus the model reproduces an anisotropy that is correlated with the grain orientation. The model is called MINA for modelling anisotropy from Notebook of Arc welding. With this kind of material model1ing a good description of the behaviour of the wave propagation is obtained, such as beam deviation or even beam division. But another advance is also necessary to have a good amplitude prediction: a good quantification of the attenuation, particularly due to grain scattering, is also required as far as attenuation exhibits a strong anisotropic behaviour too. Measurement of attenuation is difficult to achieve in anisotropic materials. An experimental approach has been based both on the decomposition of experimental beams into plane waves angular spectra and on the propagation modelling through the anisotropic material via transmission coefficients computed in generally triclinic case. Various examples of results are showed and also some prospects to continue refining numerical simulation of wave propagation.
The imprecise real-time system provides flexibility in scheduling time-critical tasks. Most scheduling problems of satisfying both 0/1 constraint and timing constraints, while the total error is minimized, are NP-complete when the optional tasks have arbitrary processing times. Liu suggested a reasonable strategy of scheduling tasks with the 0/1 constraint on uniprocessors for minimizing the total error. Song et al suggested a reasonable strategy of scheduling tasks with the 0/1 constraint on multiprocessors for minimizing the total error. But, these algorithms are all off-line algorithms. In the online scheduling, NORA algorithm can find a schedule with the minimum total error for the imprecise online task system. In the NORA algorithm, the EDF strategy is adopted in the optional scheduling.<중략> The algorithm, proposed in this paper, can be applied to some applications efficiently such as radar tracking, image processing, missile control and so on.
Seismic response of the liquid storage tanks isolated by the elastomeric bearings and sliding systems is investigated under near-fault earthquake motions. The fault normal and parallel components of near-fault motion are applied in two horizontal directions of the tank. The continuous liquid mass of the tank is modeled as lumped masses known as sloshing mass, impulsive mass and rigid mass. The corresponding stiffness associated with these lumped masses has been worked out depending upon the properties of the tank wall and liquid mass. It is observed that the resultant response of the isolated tank is mainly governed by fault normal component with minor contribution from the fault parallel component. Further, a parametric study is also carried out to study the effects of important system parameters on the effectiveness of seismic isolation for liquid storage tanks. The various important parameters considered are: aspect ratio of tank, the period of isolation and the damping of isolation bearings. There exists an optimum value of isolation damping for which the base shear in the tank attains the minimum value under near-fault motion. The increase of damping beyond the optimum value will reduce the bearing and sloshing displacements but increases the base shear. A comparative performance of five isolation systems for liquid storage tanks is also studied under normal component of near-fault motion and found that the EDF type isolation system may be a better choice for design of isolated tank in near-fault locations. Finally, it is also observed that the satisfactory response can be obtained by analysing the base-isolated tanks under simple cycloidal pulse instead of complete acceleration history.

Intentional aggressive driving (IAD) is a very dangerous driving behavior that threatens to attack the adjacent vehicles. Most existing studies have focused on the independent driving characteristics of attack drivers. However, the identification of interactions between the offender and the victim is necessary for the traffic safety analysis. This study established multi-agent driving simulation environments to systematically analyze vehicle interactions in terms of traffic safety. Time-to-collision (TTC) was adopted to quantify vehicle interactions in terms of traffic safety. In addition, a exponential decay function was further applied to compare the overall pattern of change in crash potentials when IAD events occurred. The outcome of this study would be useful in developing policy-making activities to enhance traffic safety by reducing dangerous driving events including intentional aggressive driving.

This paper presents a lane-departure identification (LDI) algorithm for a traveling vehicle on a structured road. The algorithm makes up for the weak points of the former method based on EDF[1] by introducing a Lane Boundary Pixel Extractor (LBPE), the well known Hough transform, and liner regression. As a filter to extract pixels expected to be on lane boundaries, the LBPE plays an important role in enhancing the robustness of LDI. Utilizing the pixels from the LBPE the Hough transform provides the lane-related parameters composed of orientation and distance, which are used in the LDI. The proposed LDI is based on the fact the lane-related parameters of left and right lane boundaries are symmetrical as for as the optical axis of a camera mounted on a vehicle is coincident with the center of lane; as the axis deviates from the center of lane, the symmetrical property is correspondingly lessened. In addition, the LDI exploits a linear regression of the lane-related parameters of a series of successive images. It plays the key role of determining the trend of a vehicle's traveling direction and minimizing the noise effect. Except for the two lane-related parameters, the proposed algorithm does not use other information such as lane width, a curvature, time to lane crossing, and of feet between the center of a lane and the optical axis of a camera. The system performed successfully under various degrees of illumination and on various road types.
The most important procedure in frequency analysis is to determine the appropriate probability distribution and to estimate quantiles for a given return period. To perform the frequency analysis, the goodness-of-fit tests should be carried out for judging fitness between obtained data from empirical probability distribution and assumed probability distribution. The previous goodness-of-fit could not consider enough extreme events from the recent climate change. In this study, the critical values of the modified Anderson-Darling test statistics were derived for 3-parameter Weibull distribution and power test was performed to evaluate the performance of the suggested test. Finally, this method was applied to 50 sites in South Korea. The result shows that the power of modified Anderson-Darling test has better than other existing goodness-of-fit tests. Thus, modified Anderson-Darling test will be able to act as a reference of goodness-of-fit test for 3-parameter Weibull model.
