  • Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (East Java, Indonesia) are one of the businesses that drive developing nations' economies with various challenges, particularly in finance and digitalization. The impact of financial literacy and the use of digitalization can affect the recording and reporting of company performance. This is quantitative research, and the population in this research is SMEs in East Java, with 401 SMEs from various businesses for the sample used. This research uses the primary data method of SMEs in East Java with the Structural Equation Model as a data analysis tool. The results showed a significant relationship between financial literacy and financial performance, and digital literacy was based on financial performance. However, digital literacy could not moderate financial literacy with the financial performance of East Java SMEs. Much of the untapped potential in this study was adopted from financial governance and digitalization. It is hoped that the subsequent study will examine other phenomena on the variables used in the post-pandemic.

  • Self-employed women are highly vulnerable to social risks like unemployment and poverty as job instability has increased in recent decades. Despite this, the Korean public policy focus has been on employees, not the self-employed. This may be closely linked to the legacy of the East Asian welfare model policy logic. Therefore, this study explores social risk levels by gender and employment status and examines the relation between social risks of self-employed women and the East Asian welfare model policy logic, through comparing-means analysis and ordered logit regression analysis using the 9th wave data of the Korea Welfare Panel Study Korea. The study yields evidence of divisions in social risk levels according to gender and employment status: that is, a gender difference, and a substantial gap between self-employed workers and regular employees. Furthermore, the findings of the study indicate that self-employed women — especially in small businesses — are more vulnerable to social risks than are self-employed men. This strongly supports the conclusion that the higher social risks of self-employed women in Korea are closely linked to the legacy of East Asian welfare model policy logic, which focuses on social protection for core workers and largely neglects women.

  • Phytoplankton controls marine ecosystems in terms of nutrients, photosynthetic rate, carbon cycle, etc. and the degree of its influence on the marine environment depends on their physical size. Many studies have been attempted to identify marine phytoplankton size classes using the remote sensing techniques. One of successful approach was the three-component model which estimates the chlorophyll concentrations of three phytoplankton size classes (micro-phytoplankton; >20 ㎛, nano-; 2-20 ㎛ and pico-; <2 ㎛) as a function of total chlorophyll. Here, we examined the applicability of Geostationary Ocean Colour Imager (GOCI) to the mapping of the phytoplankton size class distribution in the East Sea. A fit of the three-component model to a biomarker pigment dataset collected in the study area for some years including a large harmful algal bloom period has been carried out to derive size-fractioned chlorophyll concentration (CHL). The tuned three-component model was applied to the hourly GOCI images to identify the fractions of each phytoplankton size class for the entire CHL. Then, we investigated the distribution of phytoplankton community in terms of the size structure in the East Sea during the harmful Cochlodinium polykrikoides blooms in the summer of 2013.

  • To circumvent the constraints of time-consuming experimental methods, numerical simulation can be one of the most effective approaches to investigating chloride diffusion behaviors in concrete. However, except for the effect of the external environments, the transport direction of the chloride cannot be neglected when the concrete is exposed to the marine tidal zone, especially in certain areas of concrete members. In this study, based on Fick's second law, considering the effects of timevarying, chloride binding capacity, concrete stress state, ambient temperature, and relative humidity on chloride diffusion coefficient, the modified one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional novel modified chloride diffusion theoretical models were established through defining the current boundary conditions. The simulated results based on the novel modified multi-dimensional model were compared with the experimental results obtained from some previous pieces of literature. The comparing results showed that the modified multi-dimensional model was well-fitted with experimental data, confirming the high accuracy of the novel modified model. The experimental results in literature showed that the chloride diffusion in the corner area of the concrete structure cannot be simulated by a simple one-dimensional diffusion model, where it is necessary to select a suitable multi-dimensional chloride diffusion model for simulation calculation. Therefore, the novel modified multi-dimensional model established in this study has a stronger applicability for practical engineering.

  • In recent times, semantic image segmentation methods using deep learning models have been widely used for monitoring changes in surface attributes using remote sensing imagery. To enhance the performance of various UNet-based deep learning models, including the prominent UNet model, it is imperative to have a sufficiently large training dataset. However, enlarging the training dataset not only escalates the hardware requirements for processing but also significantly increases the time required for training. To address these issues, transfer learning is used as an effective approach, enabling performance improvement of models even in the absence of massive training datasets. In this paper we present three transfer learning models, UNet-ResNet50, UNet-VGG19, and CBAM-DRUNet-VGG19, which are combined with the representative pretrained models of VGG19 model and ResNet50 model. We applied these models to building extraction tasks and analyzed the accuracy improvements resulting from the application of transfer learning. Considering the substantial impact of learning rate on the performance of deep learning models, we also analyzed performance variations of each model based on different learning rate settings. We employed three datasets, namely Kompsat-3A dataset, WHU dataset, and INRIA dataset for evaluating the performance of building extraction results. The average accuracy improvements for the three dataset types, in comparison to the UNet model, were 5.1% for the UNet-ResNet50 model, while both UNet-VGG19 and CBAM-DRUNet-VGG19 models achieved a 7.2% improvement.

  • Geoacoustic modeling is used to predict sound transmission through submarine bottom layers of sedimentary strata and acoustic basement. This study reconstructed four geoacoustic models for sediments of 50 m thick at the Jeongdongjin area in the western continental margin of the East Sea. Bottom models were based on the data of the highresolution air-gun seismic and subbottom profiles (SBP) with sediment cores. P-wave speed was measured by the pulse transmission technique, and the resonance frequency of piezoelectric transducers was maintained at 1MHz. Measurements of 42 P-wave speeds and 41 attenuations were fulfilled in three core sediments. For actual modeling, the P-wave speeds of the models were compensated to in situ depth below the sea floor using the Hamilton method. These geoacoustic models of coastal bottom strata will be used for geoacoustic and underwater acoustic experiments reflecting vertical and lateral variability of geoacoustic properties in the Jeongdongjin area of the East Sea.

  • Line transect data from sighting surveys conducted in the East Sea, Korea in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 were analysed to estimate densities and numbers of minke whale. The half-normal model was fit to the survey in 2000 and the uniform model was the most fitable to the survey in 2002 and 2006, and the surveys in 2003 and 2005 were fit by the hazard-rate model. The estimated density of minke whale in the survey in 2000 was estimated as 0.026 individuals/$km^2$ (CV=0.409; 95% CI 0.011-0.065) and was higher than the survey in 2002 estimated as 0.018 individuals/$km^2$ (CV=0.329; 95% CI: 0.009-0.034). The estimated density of minke whale in the survey in 2003 was estimated as 0.033 individuals/$km^2$ (95% CI: 0.008-0.139) with the highest CV 0.760. The highest density was estimated in the survey in 2005 with 0.053 individuals/$km^2$ (95% CI: 0.020-0.141). The Lowest CV (0.306) was estimated in the survey in 2006 with 0.025 individuals/$km^2$ (95% CI: 0.014-0.046). A total of 500 bootstrap samples were generated within each stratum. Density, CV and 95% CI of each surveys were increased than analytic results except the survey in 2003. There were no increasing or decreasing annual trends in the density of minke whales observed during the study period. A long-term monitor and survey is needed to assess project minke whale abundance in the East Sea.

  • In this study, an uncertainty assessment for surface air temperature(T2m) and precipitation(PCP) over East Asia is carried out. The data simulated by the intergovermental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) Atmosphere-Ocean coupled general circulation Model (AOGCM) are used to assess the uncertainty. Examination of the seasonal uncertainty of T2m and PCP variabilities shows that spring-summer cold bias and fall warm bias of T2m are found over both East Asia and the Korea peninsula. In contrast, distinctly summer dry bias and winter-spring wet bias of PCP over the Korea peninsula is found. To investigate the PCP seasonal variability over East Asia, the cyclostationary empirical orthogonal function(CSEOF) analysis is employed. The CSEOF analysis can extract physical modes (spatio-temporal patterns) and their undulation (PC time series) of PCP, showing the evolution of PCP. A comparison between spatio-temporal patterns of observed and modeled PCP anomalies shows that positive PCP anomalies located in northeastern China (north of Korea) of the multi-model ensemble(MME) cannot explain properly the contribution to summer monsoon rainfalls across Korea and Japan. The uncertainty of modeled PCP indicates that there is disagreement between observed and MME anomalies. The spatio-temporal deviation of the PCP is significantly associated with lower- and upper-level circulations. In particular, lower-level moisture transports from the warm pool of the western Pacific and corresponding moisture convergence significantly contribute to summer rainfalls. These lower- and upper-level circulations physically consistent with PCP give a insight of the reason why differences between modeled and observed PCP occur.

  • The objectives of this study are to develop a real-time drought monitoring and prediction system on the East Asia domain and to evaluate the performance of the system by using past historical drought records. The system is mainly composed of two parts: drought monitoring for providing current drought indices with meteorological and hydrological conditions; drought outlooks for suggesting future drought indices and future hydrometeorological conditions. Both parts represent the drought conditions on the East Asia domain (latitude $21.15{\sim}50.15^{\circ}$, longitude $104.40{\sim}149.65^{\circ}$), Korea domain (latitude $30.40{\sim}43.15^{\circ}$, longitude $118.65{\sim}135.65^{\circ}$) and South Korea domain (latitude $30.40{\sim}43.15^{\circ}$, longitude $118.65{\sim}135.65^{\circ}$), respectively. The observed meteorological data from ASOS (Automated Surface Observing System) and AWS (Automatic Weather System) of KMA (Korean Meteorological Administration) and model-driven hydrological data from LSM (Land Surface model) are used for the real-time drought monitoring, while the monthly and seasonal weather forecast information from UM (Unified Model) of KMA are utilized for drought outlooks. For the evaluation of the system, past historical drought records occurred in Korea are surveyed and are compared with the application results of the system. The results demonstrated that the selected drought indices such as KMA drought index, SPI (3), SPI (6), PDSI, SRI and SSI are reasonable, especially, the performance of SRI and SSI provides higher accuracy that the others.
