  • WiBro(Wireless Broadband), the service based on IEEE 802.16e(mobile WiMAX) standard, is a wireless broadband Internet technology being developed by the domestic telecommunication industry. In this paper, we analyze security vulnerabilities of WiBro focusing on initial authentication phase and propose a specification-based intrusion detection system that can detect those vulnerabilities. We first derive a specification from the normally operational process of the initial authentication based on PKMv2 EAP-AKA and formalize the derived specification as a state transition diagram. Proposed system executes the intrusion detection based on those specification and state transition diagram. In this paper, to verify the detection capability of proposed system, we construct a test bed network and execute scenario-based test.

  • In this paper, we propose a USIM-based Authentication Scheme for 3GPP Network Access. The proposed scheme improves the problems of existing authentication protocol in 3GPP Network such as sequence number synchronization problem, the storage overhead of authentication data, and bandwidth consumption between Serving Network and Home Network. Our proposal is based on the USIM-based Authentication and Key Agreement Protocol that is defined in 3GPP Specification. In our scheme, mobile nodes share a SK with Serving Network and use a time stamp when mobile nodes are performing an authentication procedure with Serving Network. By using time stamp, there is no reason for using sequence number to match the authentication vector between mobile nodes and networks. So, synchronization problem can be solved in our scheme. As well as our scheme uses an authentication vector, the storage overhead of authentication data in Serving Network and bandwidth consumption between networks can be improved.

  • The current trend of the handover authentication delay time is gradually increased according to the interworking between 3G cellular network and WLANs. Therefore, authentication mechanism minimized in delay is required to perform the seamless handover and support the inter-subnet and inter-domain handover. In this paper, we propose a novel pre-authentication scheme based on the fast channel switching which directly performs the authentication with the next access point in advance. In addition, the proposed scheme is efficient in the inter-domain handover and can be easily implemented in current WLANs since it just modifies the client side of user. To analysis and evaluate our scheme, we compare the packet loss ratio and the delay time with the two standard 802.11 authentication schemes. The analytical results show that our scheme is approximate 10 times more effective than the standard schemes in packet loss and the delay time is minimized down to 0.16 msec.

  • In this paper, a hierarchical authentication protocol is proposed to minimize authentication delay in proxy mobile IPv6 networks. The authentication function of the AAA server is distributed to the LMAs and the MAGs. If the LMAs or the MAGs have authentication information of the MNs, they authenticate the MN on behalf of the AAA servers. Therefore, the authentication delay is reduced. The AAA server is vulnerable to denial-of-service attack. If the AAA server is down, MNs cannot access the proxy mobile IPv6 network until they are authenticated. The proposed scheme reduces the load on the AAA server by distributing the authentication function to the LMAs and the MAGs.

  • Internet of Thing (IoT) and NFC (Near Field Communication) have got a good adaptable structure that it can be easily combined with any wireless network. Since IoT/NFC can be used to communicate wirelessly with all the transactions that can be done remotely without any physical connections. In this paper, we propose an enhanced secure IoT/NFC protocol based on LTE network that enhances the original security level provided by the LTE. Our approach is new in a sense that it covers LTE in contrast to old networks like GSM and 3G, which substantially treated in the literature. Moreover, both GSM and 3G have several drawbacks when they are combined with the NFC technology, which has potential weakness in confidentiality, integrity, and authentication. Hence our new approach will resolve the security of the new LTE system. We expect that our protocol will result in new secure applications for the smart phone markets.

  • 3GPP(3rd Generation Project Partnership)-WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) interworking refers to the utilization of resources and access to services within the 3GPP system by the WLAN UE(User Equipment) and user respectively. The intent of 3GPP-WLAN Interworking is to extend 3GPP services and functionality to the WALN access environment. We propose an efficient mechanism for the setup of UE-initiated tunnels in 3GPP-WLAN interworking. The proposed mechanism is based on a secret key which is pre-distributed in the process of authentication and key agreement between UE and 3GPP AAA(Authentication, Authorization Accounting) server. Therefore it can avoid modular exponentiation and public key signature which need a large amount of computation in UE. Also the proposed scheme provides mutual authentication and session key establishment between UE and PDGW(Packet Data Gateway).
