  • Recently, Enterprise Architecture (EA) has emerged as the important keyword in both private and public sectors. With this phenomenon, there are tremendous need for the measures of EA functions, one of the key EA research variables, to provide academic insights and accumulate research findings in this area. Thus far, multiple definitions and concepts for EA functions exist, causing confusion among observers. Thus, in order to clarify the conceptual meaning behind the term "functions of EA" once and for all, this study reviews previous literature and provides conceptual definition. Then, we identify 24 items and rigorously develop and validate the measurement instrument for EA functions, which results in five domains: Infrastructure Systemization, Integration Management, IT Governance Support, Development and Operation Management, and Investment Management.

  • Despite the increasing importance of information technology in firms, the extent to which IT governance are established varies widely across the firms. To perform desirably the role of IS needed in most companies, high level of IT governance and the effective management should precede. However, the impacts of such activities and management on the IT governance have not been empirically examined in depth until now. Thus, building on the theory of governance and the institutionalization, the research model and the hypotheses of the study were formed and then empirically tested. The study used a survey of senior IT managers from 108 firms in order to examine hypothesized relationship among the following constructs: strategic alignment, IT governance committee, IT planning, EA, PMO, SLM, IT compliance, incident management, IS effectiveness, visibility, and corporate performance. A structural equation model is developed by using LISREL to assess the relative effects and interrelationship among these constructs. The results show that strategic alignment has positive influence on IT governance committee and IT planning. IT governance committee, IT planning, SLM, incident management from IT governance activities have positive effects on IS effectiveness, whereas IT compliance has a negative effect on IS effectiveness. Visibility is positively influenced by IT planning, EA, SLM. IT compliance, and both IS effectiveness and visibility have positive effects on corporate performance.

  • Today, IT governance has also become a subject of attention along with recent technologies such as ITSM (IT Service Management), PPM (Project Portfolio Management) and Compliance. At the national level, the market is fairly recent. and therefore, lacks detailed research in the field. Models specifically related to EIM has not yet been presented to this day, hence, firms that are considering EIM as a potential part of their information management system may fall into a state of disorder in the process of its implementation. To this end, this research attempts to construct an IT governance model for EIM based on existing models, surveys and interviews. In particular, E-discovery has been applied as means of protecting information assets and its use as evidence. In addition, by applying the research model to a particular global firm and then assessing its documentation management system, the overall feasibility of the research model has been tested.

  • The performance of Enterprise Architecture (EA) in the Korea's public IT domain produces mixed results and responses. On the one hand, EA earns positive remarks and enthusiasm as a central government-wide IT governance framework with its significant IT budget saving records. At the same time, however, the response to EA at the department and agency level is tainted with disappointment, fatigue, and reluctance. This essay suggests that this is perhaps caused by the sterile lackluster concept of EA Business Architecture employed in the current EA practice of the enterprise. The possibility for liberating and reviving the concept of EA Business Architecture is explored. Various conceptual axes and branches of EA Business Architecture are identified based upon extensive EA field experience and observations, and discussions are made on how the concept of EA Business Architecture can be expanded and amplified on those conceptual axes and branched. The resulting EA Business Architecture conceptualization is consolidated into an illustrative typology for EA Business Architecture. In the end the theoretical and practical implications of the research are discussed along with its contribution and limitation.
