Digital Transformation in Summer Training Process at King Abdulaziz University: Action Design Research in Practice

  • In the knowledge development of online assessment in learning management systems (LMSs), many assessments are evaluated weekly in the summer training course for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at King Abdul-Aziz University in Saudi Arabia. The number of performance assessments in the summer training course reaches 15 weeks. Many of them, however, are sent or done informally or through unreliable ways and cannot be verified by third parties. Therefore, applying the concept of digital transformation is essential. This research study reported herein used the action design research (ADR) method to build a new information technology system that could assist in the digital transformation. An electronic platform was designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated using the ADR method so that the main people involved in the summer training process (i.e., students, academic supervisors, and administrators) would have a high level of satisfaction with it. The study was conducted on 452 students, 105 academic supervisors, and 15 administrative staff and was conducted during the summer semester of 2020. All the training processes were digitally transformed and automated to control and raise the level and reliability of the training. All involved people were satisfied, thus, shifting the process to be in a digital form assist in achieving the high-level goal.

Effects of a Winter Training Camp on Physical Fitness, Physical Self Efficacy and Nutrients Intake in Juvenile Taekwondo Players (청소년 태권도 선수들의 동계훈련 캠프 참여가 체력, 신체적 자기효능감 및 영양섭취에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a winter training camp on physical fitness, physical self-efficacy and nutrients intake in juvenile Taekwondo players. Sixty three subjects of male middle school student Taekwondo players participated in this study. Before and after attending Taekwondo winter training camp, Taekwondo related fitness and physical self efficacy and nutrients intake of subjects were measured and compared. The results of this study were as follows: 1) There were significantly improvements (p<0.001) in 1200m run, sit up, push up. 2) There was no significantly change in physical self efficacy. 3) There were significantly increase intakes (p<0.001) in total calorie, protein, fat, fiber, Ca, P, K, vitamin A, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, niacin, vitamin C and vitamin E. However, index of nutritional quality in fiber, Ca, K, vitamin A had not good assessment. These results suggested that a winter training seems necessary to keep psychological management and scientific dietary management as well as physical training in juvenile Taekwondo players.

Can carbamide peroxide be as effective as hydrogen peroxide for in-office tooth bleaching and cause less sensitivity? A systematic review

  • This study aimed to answer the question through a systematic review: Can carbamide peroxide be as effective as hydrogen peroxide and cause less in-office bleaching sensitivity? A literature survey was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, ISI Web of Science, and gray literature. Primary clinical trials that compared the efficacy or the in-office bleaching sensitivity between carbamide and hydrogen peroxides were included. The risk of bias was evaluated using the RoB2. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach. DPI training significantly improved the mean scores of the dental undergraduates from 7.53 in the pre-DPI-training test to 9.01 in the post-DPI-training test (p < 0.001). After 6 weeks, the mean scores decreased marginally to 8.87 in the retention test (p = 0.563). DPI training increased their confidence level from 5.68 pre-DPI training to 7.09 post-DPI training. The limited evidence suggests that the 37% carbamide peroxide may be similarly effective to the 35% hydrogen peroxide for bleaching teeth in-office and causes less bleaching sensitivity. However, more well-designed split-mouth clinical trials are necessary to strengthen the evidence.

  • Hands-on education and training is a key part of fixing and developing technology knowledge and is an inherent part of many engineering and scientific curricula. However, access to large complex training facilities, such as nuclear reactor, could be limited by various factors, such as unavailability of those facilities in the region, high traveling costs or harmonization of the schedules of hands-on E&T with theoretical lectures and with the operational schedule of the facility. To handle the issue, several success stories have been reached with the introduction of the Internet Reactor Labs (IRL). The Internet Reactor Labs can strongly contribute to accessibility of training at research reactors and can contribute to improvements in their utilization. The paper describes the development of the Internet Reactor Lab at the VR-1 reactor of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Contrary to single-purpose IRLs, it presents various modalities of online teaching and training in experimental reactor physics and reactor operation in general as well as outreach activities that have been developed in recent years.

A study on the effects of weight-transfer training upon the gait patterns of hemiplegic patients through visual and auditory feedback (시각 및 청각 되먹임을 통한 하지 체중이동훈련이 편마비환자 보행특성에 미치는 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study was to identify the effects of weight-transfer training on the weight bearing distribution and gait patterns of hemiplegic patients through visual and auditory feedback using a limb load monitor. The subjects of this study were 18 hemiplegic patients who had been hospitalized or were visited out-patient department of the Rehabilitation Hospital, College of Medicine, Yonsei University, from January 5, 1995 through March 15, 1995. Pre-and post-training changes in gait patterns were measured using ink foot prints as well as by recording weight bearing distribution using a limb load monitor. The data were analyzed by the repeated measure one-way ANOVA and paired t-test. The finding were as follows: 1. Prior to the training, 18 subjects bore more weight on the sound leg(61.6 %) than on the affected leg(38.4 %). 2. Posterior to the training, the average percentage of weight bearing on the affected leg increased significantly from 38.4 % prior to training; to 46.0 % immediately after training; 45.7 % after a 30 second delay; and 45.3 % after a 60 second 3. The difference in gait patterns between pre- and post- training was statistically significant, with an increase in gait velocity to 3.65 cm/sec post-training; an increase in stride length to 5.37 cm on the affected side; 4.77 cm on the sound side; and a narrowing of the base of support to 1.19 cm. In conclusion, hemiplegic weight-transfer training using visual and auditory feedback with a limb load monitor was found to be enhancing symmetrical standing posture, and simultaneously improve gait patterns.

A Study on the Effects of ET Training for the Development of Interpersonal Relationship and Self-Identity (인간관계 효율성 훈련이 간호대학생의 인간관계와 자아정체감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study is to investigate if the effectiveness training program, suggested by Gordon(1970), could help these nursing students with the problems of interpersonal relationship and self-identification. Method: This study was designed using nonequivalent control group protest-posttest design. The subject for this study were thirty nursing students. Fifteen nursing students of the experimental group experienced the Effectiveness Training for 8 weeks (3 hours/week). The effect of Effectiveness Training was measured using Relationship Change Scale devised by Lee, H.D. & Moon, S.M.(1979) and Ego Identity Scale devised by Dignan(1965) which was translated by Seo, B.Y.(1975) Pretest data were collected by the researcher from both experimental and control group before training. After the end of eight weeks training, posttest data collected from both experimental and control group. Samples were analyzed using SPSS PC+. Result: 1. The first hypothesis, "level of interpersonal relationship of the experiment group after 8 weeks will be significantly higher than that of the control group"(z=-1.965, p=.049)was supported. 2. The second hypothesis, "level of ego-identity of the experimental group after 8 weeks will be significantly higher than that of the control group"(z=-2.191, p=.028)was supported. 3. The third hypothesis, "level of interpersonal relationship of the experiment group will be significantly higher than that of the control group after 4 months of training"(z=-.634, p=.238)was not supported. 4. The fourth hypothesis, "level of ego-identity of the experimental group will be significantly higher than that of the control group after 4 months of training"(z=-.292, p=.642)was not supported. Conclusion: The Effectiveness Training can be considered as an effective method of nursing students's interpersonal relationship & ego-identity, because it was proved to help nursing students increase level of their interpersonal relationship & ego-identity but it was needed to reinforce for continuing of the effect of the interpersonal relationship & ego-identity.

  • Vibration on the ship was generated mainly by main engine and propeller. The vibration which is generated from the ship has an effect on durability of ship's machinery and it also has an evil influence on the working conditions for crew. In this research, vibration measurement system to measure ship's vibration was built and vibration signals using acceleration sensors were measured from an accomodation space of training ship. An evaluation of vibration with regard to habitability was also discussed and the evaluation process followed the guidelines ISO6954:2000E.

A Windows-based Software for Education and Training of Transmission Network Charge (송전망 이용요금 산정을 위한 교육용 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • This paper presents a graphical windows-based software for the education and training of transmission network charge. The motivation for the development of the simulator is to provide students with a simple and useable tool for gaining an intuitive feel for transmission network charge. The developed simulator consists of the main module (MMI, GUI), the power flow module (PF), the power flow tracing module (PFT), and usage cost DB module (UCD). Each module has a separate graphical and interactive interfacing window. The developed simulator provides with two power system analysis methods (i.e., DC-PF and Modified DC-PF) and supports the PSS/E input data format to load input data of power system. Also, power flow tracing can be calculate using four methods such as "Felix Wu", "Modified Felix Wu", "DCLF ICRP", and "Reverse MW mile". Results of calculation for transmission usage cost are displayed and compared on the window through the table and/or chart. Therefore, the developed simulator can be utilize as a useful tool for effective education and training of transmission network charge.

Vulnerability Threat Classification Based on XLNET AND ST5-XXL model

  • We provide a detailed analysis of the data processing and model training process for vulnerability classification using Transformer-based language models, especially sentence text-to-text transformers (ST5)-XXL and XLNet. The main purpose of this study is to compare the performance of the two models, identify the strengths and weaknesses of each, and determine the optimal learning rate to increase the efficiency and stability of model training. We performed data preprocessing, constructed and trained models, and evaluated performance based on data sets with various characteristics. We confirmed that the XLNet model showed excellent performance at learning rates of 1e-05 and 1e-04 and had a significantly lower loss value than the ST5-XXL model. This indicates that XLNet is more efficient for learning. Additionally, we confirmed in our study that learning rate has a significant impact on model performance. The results of the study highlight the usefulness of ST5-XXL and XLNet models in the task of classifying security vulnerabilities and highlight the importance of setting an appropriate learning rate. Future research should include more comprehensive analyzes using diverse data sets and additional models.

  • 본 연구는 기존의 전통적인 교육훈련의 전이(transfer of training)모델을 e-Learning상황으로 재해석하여 기업이 e-Learning을 도입하고 운영함에 있어서 보다 실질적인 성과를 높일 수 있는 방향을 제시하며, 또한 오늘날 지식 정보화 사회에서 기업 경쟁력의 원천인 지식자본의 확대를 목적으로 하는 e-Learning이 되기 위해서 학습조직 요인의 중요성을 확인하고, 앞으로 기업이 학습조직의 향상 방향으로 e-Learning을 도입하고 운영할 수 있도록 시사점을 제시하고자 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 기존의 전통적 교육훈련의 전이모델과 e-Learning의 성과에 관한 선행연구를 바탕으로 기업에서의 e-Learning의 학습효과 및 실무전이에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지 추출하는 연구모형을 통해 각 요인들 간의 상호관계와 실무전이에 대하여 학습효과를 매개로 하는 관계를 분석함으로써 e-Learning의 학습효과 및 실무전이에 관한 영향 관계를 보다 체계적이고 포괄적으로 밝히고자 하며, 다음으론 e-Learning이 기업 교육훈련의 학습효과와 실무전이에 영향을 미칠 때 학습조직이 상황적 요인으로 추가되면 e-Learning의 학습효과와 실무전이 성과를 Leverage할 수 있는지 각 요인별 조절효과를 검증하고자 하여 실증연구를 수행 중에 있다.
