  • Many e-Learning companies are incorporated for the last five years, but most of them are failed or merged by the other company. The main reasons are the absence of competitive strategies and recognition of critical success factors. There are many researches on the critical success factors of Information System (IS) and Electronic Commerce (EC) . We derived e-Learning success factors from the previous IS and EC researches. We classified the success factors into five dimensions, (1) contents management, (2) learner management, (3) business strategy, (4) organizational support and ability, (5) learning management system (LMS), and each dimension has 9 or more success factors measurement items. We surveyed the perceived importance of the success factors from the manager of South Korea e-Learning firms. The paper categorized the items into two or more factors for each dimension by the exploratory factor analysis. Finally, we conducted one-way ANOVA for each success factors by the business model. As a result, there is different importance level for each success factors by the business model. We concluded that each e-Learning company needs different strategies to their business model.

  • In order to provide theoretical guidance to research in platform strategy, we build the conceptual framework based on the organizational ecology and analyze symbiotic/competitive relationship between platform entities. Platform owner and service provider (i.e. complementors) make symbiotic relationship, where platform owner provide service provider user-base and platform resources such as marketing tools and platform technology, and service provider provide platform owner services which users utilize. In addition to symbiotic relationships, platform owner has competitive relationship with other platform owners, and service provider builds competitive relationship with other service providers. In these relationships, the strategy of platform owner affects service provider and service provider builds a strategy for their own survival and success. This type of interaction makes competitive dynamics in platform. However, previous platform literature focuses on strategies to enhance network effect from the perspective of platform owner. Thus, there is little attention on interaction among the service providers. Using the framework based on community ecology of organizational ecology, we analyze interaction and strategy between platform owner and service provider in the viewpoint of platform openness strategy and platform pricing strategy. This research contributes to the literature of platform strategy by providing a theoretical framework based on organizational ecology to deeply understand the dynamics of platform.

  • The objective of this research is to propose a e-learning standardization roadmap based on the future scenarios. First of all, a e-learning standardization committee was organized to collect ideas on the visions of the future e-learning, in which experts from the technological, educational, and standardization field were invited. They made a great contribution to the success of this research by furnishing us with valuable advices and feedbacks. The first step of the research was to survey the current e-learning standardization proposals suggested by some of standard organizations in and out of the country. We developed three 2015 scenarios for e-learning in elementary and secondary education, in university education, and in life-long education respectively by using a top-down roadmap development strategy. In the second step, we drew a new e-learning standardization roadmap v2 out of the future scenarios by gap analysis between the current and the future e-learning standardization elements. These future e-learning scenarios and e-learning standardization roadmap are very helpful to teachers or educational policy makers for understanding future e-learning and e-learning standardization.

  • This study investigates the effects of product strategies and CEO characteristics on the growth of venture firms. These factors are related with strategic behaviors and managerial capabilities of small and dynamic firms. According to empirical results of FGLS regression with the data of the Korean venture firms, both product strategies and CEO characteristics have significant effects on firm growth and additionally explanatory powers. In general, the growth rates of venture firms tend to increase with the level of product's diversity and marketing-enhancing strategy, but decrease with the degree of product's innovation-enhancing strategy. The growth rates are higher when CEO is non-founder and has sufficient experience related to current business, and CEO's career development is focused on general management area. The effects of product strategies and CEO characteristics are moderated by the firm-internal factor such as organizational growth stage. The positive effects of some product strategies (e.g. marketing-enhancing strategy) and CEO characteristics(e.g. career focused on general management) become stronger for firms operating in the stage of start-up or initial growth, while their effects become negative or insignificant for firms operating in the mature or declining stage in which the negative effect of innovation-enhancing strategy does not exist.
