  • We present a new physically based analytical equation for electron effective mobility in MOS inversion layers. The new semi-empirical model is accounting expicitly for surface roughness scattering and screened Coulomb scattering in addition to phonon scattering. This model shows excellent agreement with experimentally measured effective mobility data from three different published sources for a wide range of effective transverse field, channel doping and temperature. By accounting for screened Coulomb scattering due to doping impurities in the channel, our model describes very well the roll-off of effective mobility in the low field (threshold) region for a wide range of channel doping level (Na=3.0*10$^{14}$ - 2.8*10$^{18}$ cm$^{-3}$ ).

  • This study investigates two basic operations of mobility management of PCNs (Personal Communication Networks), i.e., the location update and the paging of the mobile terminal. From the realistic consideration that a user either moves through several cells consecutively or stays in a cell with long time, we model the mobility pattern by introducing two types of CRT (Cell Residence Time). Mobility patterns of the mobile terminal are classified Into various ways by using the ratios of two types of CRT. Cost analysis is performed for distance-based and movement-based location update schemes combined with blanket polling paging and selective paging scheme. It is demonstrated that in a certain condition of mobility pattern and call arrival pattern, 2-state CRT model produces different optimal threshold and so, is more effective than IID ( Independently-Identically-Distributed) CRT model. An analytical model for the new CRT model is compact and easily extendable to the other location update schemes.

  • This study conducted a study on a small-capacity PCS using lithium-ion batteries used in personal mobility. Most of the batteries in Personal Mobility only charge with external chargers and are used only as mobile energy sources. However, this paper aims to charge the battery of PM using PV and system power or to use the charged power as a stand-alone power supply. The developed PCS can be operated as a two-channel battery charger/discharger, a battery charger using solar power, and a stand-alone solar inverter depending on the operation method. The validity of the manufactured small-capacity PCS was verified through experiments.

  • It is essential to consider the relationships between each component in the communication infrastructure in order to build and optimize the infrastructure. In this paper, based on the major factors to consider for the optimized communication infrastructure, we propose an enhanced MACSec-based deployment mechanism for communication infrastructure. The proposed MACSec mechanism can replace the IPSec without the additional devices and redesign of the communication infrastructure. In addition, we evaluate the performance of MACSec and IPSec in terms of the major factors such as message overhead, encryption processing, and host mobility. According to the evaluation results, we can say that MACSec is superior to IPSec with regard to mobility as well as hop delay and message overhead.

  • The last decade has seen a rapid growth in the use of mobile devices all over the world. With an increasing use of mobile devices, mobile applications are becoming more diverse and complex, demanding more computational resources. However, mobile devices are typically resource-limited (i.e., a slower-speed CPU, a smaller memory) due to a variety of reasons. Mobile users will be capable of running applications with heavy computation if they can offload some of their computations to other places, such as a desktop or server machines. However, mobile users are typically subject to dynamically changing network environments, particularly, due to user mobility. This makes it hard to choose good offloading decisions in mobile environments. In general, users' mobility can provide some hints for upcoming changes to network environments. Motivated by this, we propose a mobility model of each individual user taking advantage of the regularity of his/her mobility pattern, and develop an offloading decision-making technique based on the mobility model. We evaluate our technique through trace-based simulation with real log data traces from 14 Android users. Our evaluation results show that the proposed technique can help boost the performance of mobile devices in terms of response time and energy consumption, when users are highly mobile.

  • In modern society, UAM (Urban Air Mobility) transportation system is being developed as an alternative to urban traffic congestion and environmental problems, and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) is a combination of vertical take-off and landing function and electric power. It is attracting attention as an innovative next-generation transportation method as an eco-friendly alternative that reduces noise and air pollution by providing efficient mobility within the city. Since eVTOL development requires designing and implementing airframes suitable for various mission purposes, the power system needs to be developed as a platform concept before airframe development. In this study, we empirically proposed a test bench concept equipped with a stable power supply and an efficient control system, essential in developing a power platform with a combined function in the form of a fuselage and module type specialized for various mission purposes. The proposed drivetrain platform test bench consists of a system verifying the stable take-off and landing software and a power platform adjusting the motor's thrust. It will serve as a verification system that can be developed.

  • This paper addressed the implementation of the systematic performance analysis of Quality of Service (QoS) by using OPNET simulator in the interworking architecture of IEEE 802.16e (mobile WiMAX) and IEEE 802.11e (WLAN) wireless network. Four simulation cases were provided in OPNET simulator and a voice traffic was simulated with various performance metrics, such as Mean Opinion Score (MOS), end-to-end delay and packet transmission ratio. Based on the simulation results, the MOS value presented better in WiMAX to WiMAX case compared to others in both static and mobility case. Meanwhile, end-to-end delay was not greatly affected by mobility in four cases. However, mobility was affected much in MOS value and packet transmission ratio in WLAN to WLAN case than in others.

  • An electric scooter(e-scooter), one popularized micro-mobility vehicle has shown rapidly increasing use in many cities. In South Korea, the use of e-scooters has greatly increased, as some companies have launched e-scooter sharing services in a few large cities, starting with Seoul in 2018. However, the use of e-scooters is still controversial because of issues such as parking and safety. Since the perception toward the means of transportation affects the mode choice, it is necessary to track the trends for electric scooters to make the use of e-scooters more active. Hence, this study aimed to analyze the trends related to e-scooters. For this purpose, we analyzed news articles related to e-scooters published from 2014 to 2020 using dynamic topic modeling to extract issues and sentiment analysis to investigate how the degree of positive and negative opinions in news articles had changed. As a result of topic modeling, it was possible to extract three different topics related to micro-mobility technologies, shared e-scooter services, and regulations for micro-mobility, and the proportion of the topic for regulations for micro-mobility increased as shared e-scooter services increased in recent years. In addition, the top positive words included quick, enjoyable, and easy, whereas the top negative words included threat, complaint, and ilegal, which implies that people satisfied with the convenience of e-scooter or e-scooter sharing services, but safety and parking issues should be addressed for micro-mobility services to become more active. In conclusion, this study was able to understand how issues and social trends related to e-scooters have changed, and to determine the issues that need to be addressed. Moreover, it is expected that the research framework using dynamic topic modeling and sentiment analysis will be helpful in determining social trends on various areas.

  • GaAs single crystals were grown epitaxially from Ga solution with carrier concentrations in the range and electron mobilities between 7,500 and 9,300$\textrm{cm}^2$/v-sec. at 300$^{\circ}$K, and 50,000 and 95,000 $\textrm{cm}^2$/V-sec. at 77$^{\circ}$K. A comparison of the theoretical and experimental curves for the mobility vs. temperature indicates that the significant scattering mechanisms are ionized impurities and phonons in the temperature range of 77$^{\circ}$K to 439$^{\circ}$K. This indicates that the epitaxial layers do not contain other mobility limiting imperfections to a significant degree. Photoluminescence spectra of the. epitaxial layers did not show any emission due to deep lying imperfection leve1s.
