  • The influence of porosity (P) on Young's modulus (E) and Poisson's ratio $(\upsilon)$ of sintered steels produced from four types of steel powders was investigated. The values of E and $(\upsilon)$ depend mainly on the value of P, and those were a little affected by alloying elements. The relationships between E, $(\upsilon)$, and P were described as following equations: $E\;=\;E_0{\cdot}(1\;-\;k_E{\cdot}P)^2$ and $\upsilon\;=\;({\upsilon}_0\;-\;\upsilon_{sub}){\cdot}(1\;-\;k_{\upsilon}{\cdot}P)2+\upsilon_{sub}$, where subscript 0 means P = 0, and $k_E,\;k_{\upsilon}$ and ${\upsilon}_{sub}$ are empirical constants. These approximate equations showed good agreement with empirical results.

  • Despite of decrease in shear and moment strengths, most steel structural designers use web openings in beams because of economical benefit and requirement. The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of reinforcement of H-shape steel beams with a rectangular web opening. If shear predominates over bending, it is necessary to consider all possible combinations of shear force and bending moment acting at the opening. In this paper, the ultimate strength and behavior of perforated beams have been investigated according to parameters (ratio of M/V, opening width within opening height ratio D/h, various reinforcing types A/B/C/D/M/N/W). The results of this study are as follows ; 1. Deformation of H-shape steel beams with a rectangular web opening was greatly affected by not only bending but also shear. 2. SB1-2/3 series have little difference in the reinforced efficiency, but SB1-2E/3E series have difference in the reinforced efficiency according to the reinforcement type. 3. Efficiency of SB1-2E/3E series is determined by reinforcing types, which RB1-2E-B/M/C and RB1-3E-M/D/C specimens have good efficient. Reinforcing type of perforated beams chooses efficient method according to ratio of M/V and D/h.

  • In this study, the telematics device was installed on the car (OBD-II) to collect the information on the operation conditions from each sample vehicle. Based on the information the domestic driving pattern was analysed and the ratio of cold start length was estimated. As a result of analysis for driving pattern, we found a difference in the frequency of driving on the hourly or seasonal basis. Then, the driving pattern of the rush hours, weekdays, and weekends could be derived. Also, from the study, an average of 2.22 times per day occurred in a single trip and average driving distance for the trip was 15.72 km. In addition, the proportion of cold start length was analyzed to be 16.11%. The seasonal cold start length has big difference from season to season (Winter 26.63%, Summer 8.22%, Intermediate 12.65%). There was an inverse relationship between the outside temperature and ratio of cold start length. In order to improve the accuracy of the cold emission estimation, it is necessary to apply domestic ratio of cold start length that driving pattern and temperature in Korea is reflected.

Sensory and Physical Characteristics of Consomme Prepared with Different Ratios of Beef and Chicken (쇠고기와 닭고시의 배합비에 따른 Consomme의 관능적 및 물리적 특성)

  • The application of consomme prepared with different ratios of ground beef and ground chicken to improve taste preferences and the cost of foodstuffs was attempted by reviewing fundamental data and the effect on the sensory and physical characteristics of treatment These treatments were prepared with different ratios(9:1(A), 7:3(B), 5:5(C), 3:7(D), 1:9(E) w/w) of ground beef and ground chicken, respectively. Sensory properties were evaluated in the aspects of both acceptability and intensity. From the acceptability aspect, A treatment showed the highest scores in smell, B in mouthfeel and taste, A and B in color and overall acceptability, respectively. In terms of acceptability, B treatment was favored most for color, mouthfeel, taste and overall acceptability except smell. The more the ground chicken, the higher the intensity aspect E treatment showed higher values than A in all the intensity aspects. Moisture contents and crude proteins increased by increasing the mixed ratio of ground beef, whereas crude ash, solid matter and pH increased by increasing the mixed ratio of ground chicken. Tumidity values were the highest in E treatment, whereas the lowest in A. Tumidity values were increased significantly by increasing the mixed ratio of ground chicken. Viscosity increased by increasing the mixed ratio of ground chicken. The highest viscosity was shown in E treatment The colorimetric lightness values(L) decreased and redness(a), yellowness(b) and total color difference values(AE) increased significantly by increasing the mixed ratio of ground chicken. This experimental study showed that A and B treatment had the highest values in overall acceptability. The results of analysis in crude protein, solid matter, tumidity and viscosity were increased by increasing the mixed ratio of ground chicken. B treatment prepared with a ratio of 7:3 of ground beef and chicken had the most favorable sensory quality. These results suggested the basic information to improve acceptability and to save the costs of Consomme recipes for foodservice institutions.

Effects of Water Temperature and Estradiol-17β on the Sex Ratio and Growth of the Japanese Eel, Anguilla japonica (극동산 뱀장어, Anguilla japonica의 성비와 성장에 미치는 수온 및 estradiol-17β의 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects that water temperature and the administration of estradiol-17${\beta}$ (E2) had on the sex ratio and growth of the Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica. Glass eels (total length${\fallingdotseq}$6.5 cm) were differentiated into an E2 group and an E2-free group and then they were reared for about four months at three water temperature levels of $20^{\circ}C$, $24^{\circ}C$, and $28^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the young eels survived normally at the rearing water temperature of ${\geq}24^{\circ}C$, and grew to a mean size of 20 cm (total length). In the E2-free group, temperature was not found to increase the sex ratio (feminizing rates); however, the sex ratio of the E2-administrated group was found to be a little higher at a high temperature ($28^{\circ}C$). The growth of the E2 group was lower than the growth of the E2-free group at $24^{\circ}C$ and the E2 concentration levels in the plasma at $24^{\circ}C$ were found to be significant after the end of the E2 administration period (178 days). Therefore, we thought that long-term administration of E2 must be considered to be the reason for growth decline in spite of the prominent sex ratio effect. Our results indicate that temperature was not related to an increase in the feminizing rate (sex ratio) in the Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica, and other environmental factors (rearing density, salinity, etc.) that have the possibility of inducing ovarian differentiation must be investigated.

  • Experimental investigations of the heat transfer and friction factors in the ribbed divergent rectangular channel with the channel exit hydraulic diameter to inlet hydraulic diameter ratio of 1.16 were performed. The surface heaters were mounted onto the two opposite walls. The main experimental parameter is the ratio of rib pitch (p) to height (e), at which the ratios (p/e) of 6, 10, and 14 are considered in the channel with ribs on one wall only. The straight ribbed square channel is also considered as a comparison. The major findings are that the ratio of p/e = 6 shows the highest values in the heat transfer and the ratio of p/e = 10 indicates the greatest friction factor in the ribbed divergent channel.   • We present a fabrication method of high aspect ratio 100nm-scale nickel stamper using e-beam writing for the injection molding of optical grating patterns. Conventional nickel stamper is fabricated by nickel electroplating process which is followed by seed layer deposition. In this paper, we have used chrome coated blank mask without anti-reflection layer of CrON in order to simplified electroplating process. In experimental study, we have optimized electron-beam dosage for 100nm-scale optical grating patterns with 2.5-aspect ratio, and fabricated nickel stamper using above grating patterns as PR mold. Fabricated nickel stamper have showed height of 240$\pm$20nm and width of 116$\pm$6nm.

  • The copolymerization of ethylene (E) and norbornene (N) was examined by using various metallocene catalysts and modified-MAO(MMAO) cocatalyst. For $C_2$-symmetry catalysts such as rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$, M $e_2$Si(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$, M $e_2$Si(Cp)$_2$ZrC $l_2$ and Cs-symmetrical iPr(FluCp)ZrC $l_2$ as well as CGC and di-bridged zirconocene, the effects of catalyst structure and [N]/[E] feed ratio on catalyst activity, thermal property and [N] content of copolymer (COC) was investigated. For rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$ catalyst of a constant [N]/[E] feed ratio, the appropriate conditions of [Al]/[Zr] mole ratio, polymerization temperature and cocatalyst structure were found to be 3000, 4$0^{\circ}C$, MMAO cocatalyst, respectively. As [N]/[E] feed ratio increased, the incorporation of norbornene to copolymer increased while, the activity of catalyst decreased except for iPr(FluCp)ZrC $l_2$ With consideration of catalyst activity as well as N content, it was found that rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$/MMAO system exhibited relatively high activity and controllable $T_{g}$.   • TR-E2 configuration designed by Bell Textron was tested in KARI 1-m wind tunnel. To explore aerodynamic characteristics for the given configuration, a $12\%$ scaled model was fabricated and tested. Wind tunnel test for TR-E2 had been performed by changing the incidence angles of wing and deflection angles of control surfaces. Test result showed that the lower wing incidence angle has more favorable lift to drag ratio compared with original design. Longitudinal and directional characteristics of TR-E2 were found to be stable for the pitch and yaw motions. However, the lateral stability of TR-E2 is not stable for certain control surface deflection.

Nonlinear response of r.c. framed buildings retrofitted by different base-isolation systems under horizontal and vertical components of near-fault earthquakes

  • Near-fault ground motions are characterized by high values of the ratio between the peak of vertical and horizontal ground accelerations, which can significantly affect the nonlinear response of a base-isolated structure. To check the effectiveness of different base-isolation systems for retrofitting a r.c. framed structure located in a near-fault area, a numerical investigation is carried out analyzing the nonlinear dynamic response of the fixed-base and isolated structures. For this purpose, a six-storey r.c. framed building is supposed to be retrofitted by insertion of an isolation system at the base for attaining performance levels imposed by current Italian code in a high-risk seismic zone. In particular, elastomeric (e.g., high-damping-laminated-rubber bearings, HDLRBs) and friction (e.g., steel-PTFE sliding bearings, SBs, or friction pendulum bearings, FPBs) isolators are considered, with reference to three cases of base isolation: HDLRBs acting alone (i.e., EBI structures); in-parallel combination of HDLRBs and SBs (i.e., EFBI structures); FPBs acting alone (i.e., FPBI structures). Different values of the stiffness ratio, defined as the ratio between the vertical and horizontal stiffnesses of the HDLRBs, sliding ratio, defined as the global sliding force divided by the maximum sliding force of the SBs, and in-plan distribution of friction coefficient for the FPs are investigated. The EBI, EFBI and FPBI base-isolation systems are designed assuming the same values of the fundamental vibration period and equivalent viscous damping ratio. The nonlinear dynamic analysis is carried out with reference to near-fault earthquakes, selected and scaled on the design hypotheses adopted for the test structures.
