Location based Services in the ubiquitous computing environment, namely u-LBS, use very large and skewed spatial objects that are closely related to locational information. It is especially essential to achieve fast search, which is looking for POI(Point of Interest) related to the location of users. This paper examines how to search large and skewed POI efficiently in the u-LBS environment. We propose the Dynamic-level Grid based R-Tree(DGR-Tree), which is an index for point data that can reduce the cost of stationary POI search. DGR-Tree uses both R-Tree as a primary index and Dynamic-level Grid as a secondary index. DGR-Tree is optimized to be suitable for point data and solves the overlapping problem among leaf nodes. Dynamic-level Grid of DGR-Tree is created dynamically according to the density of POI. Each cell in Dynamic-level Grid has a leaf node pointer for direct access with the leaf node of the primary index. Therefore, the index access performance is improved greatly by accessing the leaf node directly through Dynamic-level Grid. We also propose a K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN) algorithm for DGR-Tree, which utilizes Dynamic-level Grid for fast access to candidate cells. The KNN algorithm for DGR-Tree provides the mechanism, which can access directly to cells enclosing given query point and adjacent cells without tree traversal. The KNN algorithm minimizes sorting cost about candidate lists with minimum distance and provides NEB(Non Extensible Boundary), which need not consider the extension of candidate nodes for KNN search.

We studied on a technic to improve and implement the virtual environment grid information in the war-game model. The virtual environment data are categorized into ground, sea, and air, and separatedly managed and operated. The data are implemented and managed in the geographical information and topography type information. The geographical information, including grid location coordinate and sea level, are managed in computer files as a grid type. We improved the representation of the sea level by mapping the sea level value of the grid information file into GCV and suggested the dynamic virtual environment implementation technic for the region with the large range of tide. In the experiments, we could know that it is possible to adopt the dynamic virtual environment to the war-game model.
In this paper, we propose a new dynamic reconfiguration method using application-level checkpointing in a grid computing environment with Cactus and Globus. The existing dynamic reconfiguration methods have been dependent on a specific hardware and operating system. But the proposed method performs a dynamic reconfiguration without supporting specific hardwares and operating systems and, an application is programmed without considering a dynamic reconfiguration. In the proposed method, the job starts with an initial configuration of Computing resources and the job restarts including new resources dynamically found at run-time. The proposed method determines whether to include the newly found idle sites by considering processor performance and available memory of the sites. Our method writes the intermediate results of the job on the disks using system-independent application-level checkpointing for real-time visualization during the job runs. After reconfiguring idle sites and idle processors newly found, the job resumes using checkpointing files. The proposed dynamic reconfiguration method is proved to be valid by decreasing total execution time In K*Grid.

In order to meet the low voltage ride-through requirement in a grid code, a wind power plant (WPP) has to stay connected to a grid, supporting the voltage recovery for a grid fault. To do this, a plant-level controller as well as a wind generator (WG) controller is essential. The dynamic response of a WPP should be analyzed in order to design a plant-level controller. The dynamic response of a WPP for a grid fault is the collective response of all WGs, which depends on the wind speed approaching the WG. Thus, the dynamic response of a WPP should be analyzed by taking the wake effect into consideration, because different wind speeds at WGs will result in different responses of the WPP. This paper analyzes the response of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based offshore WPP with a grid fault taking into account the wake effect. To obtain the approaching wind speed of a WG in a WPP, we considered the cumulative impact of multiple shadowing and the effect of the wind direction. The voltage, reactive power, and active power at the point of common coupling of a 100 MW DFIG-based offshore WPP were analyzed during and after a grid fault under various wind and fault conditions using an EMTP-RV simulator. The results clearly demonstrate that not considering the wake effect leads to significantly different results, particularly for the reactive power and active power, which could potentially lead to incorrect conclusions and / or control schemes for a WPP.

The power grid has been changed to a smart grid system to satisfy the growing need for power grid complexity, demand, reliability, security, and efficiency with a combination of existing power and ICT technology. This study analyzes the research trends in smart grid technology in the period since the introduction of the smart grid system and compares it with industrial trends to grasp the progress and characteristics of Smart Grid technology and look for ways to innovate the technology. To do this, we analyze the research trends using dynamic topic modeling, which is capable of time-series research topic analysis. Next, we compare the results of research trends with industrial trends analyzed by Gartner's experts to demonstrate that smart grid research is evolving to the level of industrialization. The results of this study are quantitative analysis through data mining, and it is expected that it will be used in many fields such as companies that want to participate in industry and government agencies that need to establish policies by showing more objective analysis results.

In this study, an automatic command mode transition strategy of direct power control (DPC) is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) medium-voltage (MV) offshore wind turbines (WTs). Benchmarking against the control methods are performed based on a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) back-to-back type voltage source converter (VSC). The ramping rate criterion of complex power is utilized to select the switching vector in DPC for a three-level NPC converter. With a grid command and an MPPT mode transition strategy, the proposed control method automatically controls the generated output power to satisfy a grid requirement from the hierarchical wind farm controller. The automatic command mode transition strategy of DPC is confirmed through PLECS simulations based on Matlab. The simulation result of the automatic mode transition strategy shows that the proposed control method of VOC and DPC achieves a much shorter transient time of generated output power than the conventional control methods of MPPT and VOC under a step response. The proposed control method helps provide a good dynamic performance for PMSGs MV offshore WTs, thereby generating high quality output power.

The numerical experiment has been conducted to investigate the unsteady shock wave reflecting phenomena. The cell-vertex finite-volume, Roe's upwind flux difference splitting method with unstructured grid is implemented to solve unsteady Euler equations. The $4^{th}$-order Runge-Kutta method is applied for time integration. A linear reconstruction of the flux vector using the least-square method is applied to obtain the $2^{nd}$-order accuracy for the spatial derivatives. For a better resolution of the shock wave and slipline, the dynamic grid adaptation technique is adopted. The new concept of grid adaptation technique, which is much simpler than that of conventional techniques, is introduced for the current study. Three error indicators (divergence and curl of velocity, and gradient of density) are used for the grid adaptation procedure. Considering the quality of the solution and the numerical efficiency, the grid adaptation procedure was updated up to $2^{nd}$ level at every 20 time steps. For the convenience of comparison with other experimental and analytical results, the case of interaction between the straight incoming shock wave and a sharp wedge is simulated for various flow conditions. The numerical results show good agreement with other experimental and analytical results, in the shock wave reflecting structure, slipline, and the trajectory of the triple points. Some critical cases show disagreement with the analytical results, but these cases also have been proven to show hysteresis phenomena.
With power level of grid-connected converters rising, the switching frequency of the switching devices is commonly greatly reduced to improve its power capacity. However, this results in serious couplings of the dq current components, which leads to degradation of the static and dynamic performances of grid-connected converters and fluctuations of the reactive power in dynamic processes. In this paper, complex vector models under low switching frequency are established for an L/LCL grid-connected converter, and the relationship between the switching frequency and the coupling degree is analyzed. In addition, a series decoupling current control strategy is put forward. It is shown that the proposed control strategy can eliminate the couplings, improve the performances and have good robustness to parameter variations through static and dynamic characteristics analyses and a sensitivity analysis. Experimental and simulation results also verify the correctness of the theoretical analyses and the superiority of the proposed control strategy.
Subspace clustering for online data streams requires a large amount of memory resources as all subsets of data dimensions must be examined. In order to track the continuous change of clusters for a data stream in a finite memory space, in this paper, we propose a grid-based subspace clustering algorithm that effectively uses memory resources. Given an n-dimensional data stream, the distribution information of data items in data space is monitored by a grid-cell list. When the frequency of data items in the grid-cell list of the first level is high and it becomes a unit grid-cell, the grid-cell list of the next level is created as a child node in order to find clusters of all possible subspaces from the grid-cell. In this way, a maximum n-level grid-cell subspace tree is constructed, and a k-dimensional subspace cluster can be found at the kth level of the subspace grid-cell tree. Through experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method uses computing resources more efficiently by expanding only the dense space while maintaining the same accuracy as the existing method.
