Dynamic response analysis of generally damped linear system with repeated eigenvalues

  • For generally damped linear systems with repeated eigenvalues and defective eigenvectors, this study provides a decomposition method based on residue matrix, which is suitable for engineering applications. Based on this method, a hybrid approach is presented, incorporating the merits of the modal superposition method and the residue matrix decomposition method, which does not need to consider the defective characteristics of the eigenvectors corresponding to repeated eigenvalues. The method derived in this study has clear physical concepts and is easily to be understood and mastered by engineering designers. Furthermore, this study analyzes the applicability of step-by-step methods, including the Newmark beta and Runge-Kutta methods for dynamic response calculation of defective systems. Finally, the implementation procedure of the proposed hybrid approach is illustrated by analyzing numerical examples, and the correctness and the effectiveness of the formula are judged by comparing the results obtained from the different methods.

  • By using Frenet formulation and Timoshenko beam theory, the partial differential equations of motion are derived for a helical spring having a doubly symmetrical cross section subjected to the pre-load axially. These equations of motion are solved to give the dispersion relationship and dynamic stiffness matrix is assembled. Natural frequencies are obtained from the receptance of the system. The results of the dynamic stiffness method are compared with those of the transfer matrix method from published examples and finite element method.

Forced Vibration Analysis of Lattice Type Structure by Transfer Stiffness Coefficient Method (전달강성계수법에 의한 격자형 구조물의 강제진동 해석)

  • Complex and large lattice type structures are frequently used in design of bridge, tower, crane and aerospace structures. In general, in order to analyze these structures we have used the finite element method(FEM). This method is the most widely used and powerful method for structural analysis lately. However, it is necessary to use a large amount of computer memory and computational time because the FEM requires many degrees of freedom for solving dynamic problems exactly for these complex and large structures. For analyzing these structures on a personal computer, the authors developed the transfer stiffness coefficient method(TSCM). This method is based on the concept of the transfer of the nodal dynamic stiffness coefficient matrix which is related to force and displacement vector at each node. And we suggested TSCM for free vibration analysis of complex and large lattice type structures in the previous report. In this paper, we formulate forced vibration analysis algorithm for complex and large lattice type structures using extened TSCM. And we confirmed the validity of TSCM through computational results by the FEM and TSCM, and experimental results for lattice type structures with harmonic excitation.

  • As automobile industry develope, design techniques to satisfy light weight and high efficiency in automobile parts is demanded. In this study modal analysis is performed using transfer matrix method to identify dynamic characteristics of exhaust system. It is estimated the theoretical transfer function by Pestel-Leckey method and the mode shapes in 3-D graphic. the validity of developed program is verified by comparing with the experimental results of exhaust system. Estimated modal parameters(natural frequency, vibrational mode, transfer function) are in accord with the experimental results. From the developed program, we can predict a location of the hanger which is determined by the lowest RMS value point, when displacement is given as an input at the engine side. We can find that attachment of spring modelled hanger at the hanger location bring vibration level down.

  • This paper presents new sensitivity analysis algorithm for the dynamic response of three dimensional rectilinear type structure. This method is derived from a combination of the transfer stiffness coefficient method(TSCM) and the Newmark method. We developed dynamic response analysis algorithm by TSCM. This method has more safe computational precision and time than transfer matrix method(TMM). We defined new design variable and object function, and computated simple three dimensional computation model by TSCM. The presented analysis algorithm was validated by results of changing design variable.

  • The dynamic behavior of rotor-bearing system used in swash plate compressor has been investigated using the combined methodologies of finite elements and transfer matrices. The finite element is formulated including the field element for a shaft section and the point element for swash plate, disk pulley and bearings. The Houbolt method is used to consider the time march for the integration of the system equations. The transient whirl response of rotating shaft supported on roller bearings is obtained, considering compression forces and unbalance forces at swash plate and driving pulley. And, the steady state displacements of the rotor are compared with a variation in unbalance mass. Results show that the loci of rotating shaft considering unbalance forces and external compression forces are more severe in flutter motion than with only unbalance forces.

  • This paper describes a method for identifying the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings for high speed turbomachinerys with the LS/IV method. In fact identifying the characteristics of air foil bearings is very difficult work, and it is tried to identify it. Experiments were conducted to determine the structural dynamic and hydrodynamic characteristics of air foil bearings. Numerical predictions compare the static and dynamic force performances. The housing of the bearing on the journal was driven by the impact hammer which were used to simulate impact force acting on air foil bearings. The characteristics of air foil bearings were extracted from the frequency response function (FRF) by LS(Least Square) method and IV(Instrumental Variable) method. The experiment was tested at 0 rpm and $10000\sim16000rpm$. And the test results were introduced about the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings, and also compared with theoritical results.

Kineto-Elasto Static and Dynamic Responses of a Fully Elastic Linked, Four-bar Mechanism

  • Mechanisms with fully elastic members must consider both inertial forces due to the rigid motion of mechanisms and due to the elastic vibration of links. The main objectives of the kineto-elasto static and dynamic analyses are to calculate the quasi-static and the time-domain responses, respectively. An iterative transfer matrix method is used for a four-bar, fully elastic linked mechanism. Houbolt direct integration scheme is incorporated for the inertial effects due to the elastic link vibration. The analytical results are compared with the experimental responses and both responses show in good agreement.

  • A new controller design algorithm based on the Hessenberg form for linear control systems has een proposed. The controller is composed of the dynamic compensator and the state feedback (dynamic state feedback). The algorithm gives a simple way to assign the eigenstructure (eigenvalues and eigenvectors) of the closed loop system and it also provides a method to assign the frequency shapes near the corner frequencies of the closed loop transfer function matrix. Because of this property, the algorithm is called the independent frequency shape control (IFSC) method.

  • Sperm competent for fertilization can become capacitated, bind to the zona pellucida (ZP)of an egg in a specific manner, and complete acrosomal exocytosis. Failure to carry out these functions results in infertility. Although the interactions between the ZP and the plasma membrane overlying the sperm acrosome have been considered important for sperm-egg recognition and signalling recent results have prompted a reassessment of current paradigms concerning these interactions. In this review, we're going to discuss about the roles of the acrosomal matrix, the particulate component of the acrosomal contents, in fertilization. The general hypothesis is that acrosomal exocytosis leads to the exposure of acrosomal matrix proteins that become de facto extracellula matrix(ECM) on the surface of the sperm head, and that the dynamic interactions of this newly-exposed sperm ECM with the egg ECM (the ZP) govern sperm-egg recognition and sperm penetration of the ZP. Informations from these experiments may provide new ways to address the poor ZP binding of sperm from some human infertility patients and may offer new avenues for contraception through the disruption of purposeful sperm-ZP binding.
