In this paper, damping behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) beams by experimental and numerical method is discussed. Because of its improved ability to dissipate energy, SFRC has a better damping behavior than that of reinforced concrete(RC). Damping behavior is influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete and the stress level. Damping in the SFRC beams has been evaluated from dynamic experimental test data at various levels of cracked states in the beams. A FEM program(TICAL) has been developed based on the relationships between curvature and damping. It is observed for SFRC beams with 0.44% of tensile reinforcement steel that approximate 5% to 35% was relatively increased in the damping ratio generally depending on the load level.

The machine tools builders are trying to improve the efficiency and performance of the machine tools. The electro-mechanical driven broaching machine has many advantages such as lower noisy operating, higher energy efficiency, and smaller space of installation. This paper presents the structural and mechanical development of an electro-mechanical driven broaching machine that is replaced for traditional hydraulic one. The servo motor, ball screw and roller linear guide are used instead of hydraulic cylinder and translation frictional sliding guides. The simulation method based on FEM was applied to analyze the stress, deformation of the machine for static analysis. The dynamic analysis was carried out for verifying and assessing the mechanical behavior of the developed broaching machine. This work helps broaching machine developer make a better product at the early design stage with lower cost and development time.
This study is concerned with the braking distance estimation using frictional energy rate. First, steady state rolling analysis is performed, and using this result, the braking distance is estimated. Dynamic rolling analysis during entire braking time period is impratical, so that this study divides the vehicle velocity by 10km/h to reduce the analysis time. The multiplication of the slip rate and the shear stress provides the frictional energy rate. Using frictional energy rate, total braking distance is estimated, In addition, ABS(Anti-lock Brake System) is considered, and two type of slip ratios are compared, One is 15% slip ratio for the ABS condition, and the other is 100% slip ratio which leads lo the almost same braking distance as the elementary kinematic theory. A slip ratio is controlled by angular velocity in ABAQUS/Explicit, A 15% slip ratio gives the real vehicle's braking distance when the frictional energy occurred al disk pad is included. Disk pad's frictional energy rate is calculated by the theoretical approach.

This paper describes the feasibility of compacting subgrade layer in thicker lifts than currently permitted as 20 cm. This project involved constructing and testing a full scale test section in highway. Soil stiffness in field was evaluated by a nondestructive testing method, called Geogage. Quality control tests and FE Analysis were also conducted. Typical dynamic compaction roller of 11ton weight is applied for full scale test and a Mohr-Coulomb model and Plane strain condition are used for FE Analysis. The results showed that compaction-induced stress and dissipated energy are mainly depend on depth of soil and it could be possible to increase thickness of a lift.
Laboratory dynamic tests are carried out to assess the liquefaction potential of saturated sands in most countries. However, simple results such as the maximum cyclic shear stress and the number of cycles at initial liquefaction are used in the experimental assessment of liquefaction potential, even though various results can be obtained from the dynamic test. In addition, it seemed to be inefficient because more than three dynamic tests with different stress ratio have to be carried out to draw a liquefaction resistance experimental curve. To improve the present assessment method fur liquefaction potential, a new critical resistible characteristic far soil liquefaction is proposed and verified through conventional cyclic triaxial tests with Jumunjin sand. In the proposed method, various experimental data such as effective stress path, stress-strain relationship, and the change of excess pore water pressure can be used in the determination of cumulative plastic shear strains at every 1/4 cycle. Especially, the critical cumulative plastic shear strain to initiate liquefaction can be defined in a specific point called a phase change point in the effective stress path and it can be calculated from a hysteric curve of stress-strain relationship up to this point. Through this research, it is found that the proposed cumulative plastic shear strain can express the dissipated energy to resist dynamic loads and consider the realistic soil dynamic behavior of saturated sands reasonably. It is also found that the critical plastic shear strain can be used as a registible index of soils to represent the critical soil dynamic state, because it seems to include no effect of large deformation.
This disquisition proposes a nonlocal strain gradient beam theory for thermo-mechanical dynamic characteristics of embedded smart shear deformable curved piezoelectric nanobeams made of porous electro-elastic functionally graded materials by using an analytical method. Electro-elastic properties of embedded curved porous FG nanobeam are assumed to be temperature-dependent and vary through the thickness direction of beam according to the power-law which is modified to approximate material properties for even distributions of porosities. It is perceived that during manufacturing of functionally graded materials (FGMs) porosities and micro-voids can be occurred inside the material. Since variation of pores along the thickness direction influences the mechanical and physical properties, so in this study thermo-mechanical vibration analysis of curve FG piezoelectric nanobeam by considering the effect of these imperfections is performed. Nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory is utilized to consider the size effects in which the stress for not only the nonlocal stress field but also the strain gradients stress field. The governing equations and related boundary condition of embedded smart curved porous FG nanobeam subjected to thermal and electric field are derived via the energy method based on Timoshenko beam theory. An analytical Navier solution procedure is utilized to achieve the natural frequencies of porous FG curved piezoelectric nanobeam resting on Winkler and Pasternak foundation. The results for simpler states are confirmed with known data in the literature. The effects of various parameters such as nonlocality parameter, electric voltage, coefficient of porosity, elastic foundation parameters, thermal effect, gradient index, strain gradient, elastic opening angle and slenderness ratio on the natural frequency of embedded curved FG porous piezoelectric nanobeam are successfully discussed. It is concluded that these parameters play important roles on the dynamic behavior of porous FG curved nanobeam. Presented numerical results can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of curve FG nanobeam with porosity phases.

Friction welding has may merits such as energy efficiency, simple processing, etc. but it is difficult to obtain good welding at the welded interfaces and heat affected zone. It is discovered that stress singularity exists at the interferes and heat affected zone. The computer program based on boundary element method is utilized in this study. A mathematical model is implemented based on results from several experiments performed at and around the welded interfaces and heat affected zone of disimilar metals under static and dynamic loadings. This stay is to investigate the characteristics of the deformation and fracture behavior around interfaces for friction welded materials under static tensile load. Also, the stress distribution at the tip of crack is analyzed by using BU based on Kelvin's solution of 2-dimensional binding zone. The results of BEM are identical with those in case of considering interfaces of both heat affected zone. Also, stress singularity at the tip of interfaces appears when the elastic modulus ratio is 1.07.
In modern power systems, distributed generators (DGs) result in high stress on system frequency stability. Apart from the intermittent nature of DGs, most DGs do not contribute inertia or damping to systems. As a result, a new control method referred to as a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) has been proposed, which brought new characteristics to inverters such as synchronous machines (SM). DGs employing an energy storage system (ESS) provide inertia and damping through VSM control. Meanwhile, energy storage presents some physical constraints in the VSM implementation level. In this paper, a VSM mathematical model is built and analyzed. The dynamic responses of the output active power are presented when a step change in the frequency occurs. The influences of the inertia constant, damping factor and operating point on the ESS volume margins are investigated. In addition, physical constraints are proposed based on these analyses. The proposed physical constraints are simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC software and tested through RTDS experiment. Both simulation and RTDS test results verify the analysis.

There has been considerable interest over the last twenty years in the subject of the elastic properties of the cord-rubber laminate. This has been due to the rather intensive study of the composites materials characteristics brought about by the increased use of rigid composites materials characteristics brought about by the increased use of rigid composites in many structural applications. The object of this study is to obtain the natural frequencies and modes of the simply supported cord-rubber laminate plates prior to the study on the analysis of the dynamic properties of the pneumatic tire. To obtain these natural frequencies and modes, the 12 degrees of freedom orthotropic rectangular plate finite elements are developed. By using classical lamination theory, the stress-strain relations are represented. The governing equation for the finite element is derived by energy method. To find the natural frequencies and modes, he eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors are computed by the well known Jacobi power method. In order to verify the capability of this present finite element, the results of the specially orthotropic plate and the angle-ply laminate plate are compared with the analytical solution. The analytical and numberical results are in good agreement. The following problems of the simply supported plate are analyzed by the present finite element. a) the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the cord-rubber laminate plate for various aspect ratio. b) The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the orthotropic plate with the rectangular hole in its center.

An automated procedure which allows adaptation of spatial and time discretization simultaneously in finite element analysis of linear elastodynamic problems is presented. For dynamic problems having responses dominated by high frequency modes, such as those with impact, explosive, traveling and earthquake loads high gradient stress regions change their locations from time to time. And the time step size may need to vary in order to deal with whole process ranging from transient phase to steady state phase. As the sizes of elements in space vary in different regions, the procedure also permits different time stepping. In such a way, the best performance attainable by the finite element method can be achieved. In this study, we estimate both of the kinetic energy error and stran energy error induced by spatial and time discretization in a consistent manner. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the performance of the procedure.
