  • This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of parallel manipulators with redundant limbs, obtained by putting additional limbs to an existing parallel manipulator. We develop the kinematic and dynamic models of a parallel, manipulator with redundant limbs. The redundancy in parallelism due to the increased number of limbs and the redundancy in actuation due to the increased number of active joints are considered in the modeling. Based on the derived models, we define the kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities of a parallel manipulator with redundant limbs. The effect of the redundant limbs on the performance of parallel manipulators is analyzed in terms of kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities.

We develop the kinematic and dynamic models of a parallel manipulator with redundant joints. The redundancy in serial chain, due to the increased number of joints per limb, is considered in the modeling. • This paper presents the kinematic and dynamic analysis of parallel manipulators with actuation redundancy, obtained by replacing the passive joints of an existing parallel manipulator with the active ones. We develop the kinematic and dynamic models of a parallel manipulator with actuation redundancy. The multiplicity in selecting the controllable active joints among the increased number of active joints is considered in the modeling. Based on the derived models, we define the kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities of a parallel manipulator with actuation redundancy. The effect of the actuation, redundancy on the performance of parallel manipulators is analyzed in terms of kinematic and dynamic manipulabilities.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the dynamic behavior of highway bridge due to moving vehicle load, considering the effect of laminated rubber bearing. Dynamic behaviors of bridge considering the effect of bearings are studied with 3-dimensional bridge and vehicle models. To analyze the effect of bearings on the dynamic behaviors of superstructures of bridges, laminated rubber bearing is modeled as 3-dimensional frame element with equivalent stiffness and damping, and the models are included in the bridge analysis model. The results from the analytical models with laminated rubber bearing show a significant effects on dynamic responses and more complex vibration characteristics compared with the results from the bridge with pot bearings. Generally, larger dynamic amplification factors are obtained in the case of laminated rubber bearing, which is mainly due to the smaller torsional stiffness of the bridge with laminated rubber bearing. It can be recommended that were careful consideration on the vibration of bridges and dynamic load allowance in design are needed when adopting laminated rubber bearing.

  • The dynamic analysis model is developed with the high-speed train (KTX) and a 2-span continuous prestressed concrete box girder bridge with a double track. The analytical results are compared with the dynamic field test results and found to be valid to yield quite accurate dynamic responses. The various trainset models with different number of cars are developed and compared with the results of the regular 20-car trainset model. It is concluded that the reduced trainset models, such as 7-car and 10-car models, cannot exactly produce the dynamic responses of bridges, especially when the train speed is high. Under the coincidence condition of two trains traveling with resonance velocity in the opposite directions, it is found that the impact factor under two-way coincidence is three times larger than that under one-way traffic. Consequently, for the bridge with a double-track it is necessary to check not only the dynamic responses of the bridge with one-way traffic but those with two-way coincidence.

  • A dynamic simulation program may be used for the development of effective control algorithms for the ice storage cooling system. Simplified effective dynamic models for an ice-on-coil type storage tank, a screw chiller, a water-to-air heat exchanger, three way valves, pipes, pumps, temperature sensors, and controllers were developed. And a dynamic simulation program for the ice storage cooling system was developed by using these dynamic models. Control algorithms for the full storage system were also selected and analyzed in order to show the effectiveness of these models. From the simulation results, it may be concluded that the simulation program developed in this study can be effectively used for the development of improved control algorithms for the ice storage cooling system.

  • Recently increasing number of highrise buildings are aseismically designed by dynamic analysis method. To perform comparative study on the results of seismic design by dynamic analysis method, five-to thirty-story building models of ductile moment resisting frames and braced frames are considered. Base shears of these models using the spectrum of equivalent static method in the current Korean code and the ones of dynamic analysis method in the UBC-88 code are compared. Based on this study design spectra to be used in the dynamic analysis in Korea are proposed and the results are compared.

  • System identification is the task of inferring a mathematical description of a dynamic system from a series of measurements of the system. There are several motives for establishing mathematical descriptions of dynamic systems. Typical applications encompass simulation, prediction, fault diagnostics, and control system design. The paper demonstrates that neural networks can be used effective for the identification of nonlinear dynamical systems. The content of this paper concerns dynamic neural network models, where not all inputs to and outputs from the networks are measurable. Only one model type is treated, the well-known Innovation State Space model(Kalman Predictor). The identification is based only on input/output measurements, so in fact a non-linear Extended Kalman Filter problem is solved. Even for linear models this is a non-linear problem without any assurance of convergence, and in spite of this fact an attempt is made to apply the principles from linear models, an extend them to non-linear models. Computer simulation results reveal that the identification scheme suggested are practically feasible.

  • Seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) requires a large number of simulations to evaluate the seismic vulnerability of structural and nonstructural components in nuclear power plants. The effect of structural modeling and analysis assumptions on dynamic analysis of 3D and simplified 2D stick models of auxiliary buildings and the attached nonstructural components is investigated. Dynamic characteristics and seismic performance of building models are also evaluated, as well as the computational accuracy of the models. The presented results provide a better understanding of the dynamic behavior and seismic performance of auxiliary buildings. The results also help to quantify the impact of uncertainties associated with modeling and analysis of simplified numerical models of structural and nonstructural components subjected to seismic shaking on the predicted seismic failure probabilities of these systems.

  • In order to improve the efficiency of a main transformer in a train, the optimal operation of a cooling system is necessary. For the development of optimal control algorithms of a cooling system, mathematical models of a main transformer cooling system were developed. These include static and dynamic models of a main transformer, an oil pump, an oil cooler, and a blower. Static models were used to find optimal oil temperatures of the inlet and the outlet of a transformer. Dynamic models were used to predict transient performances of control algorithms of a blower and an oil pump. Simulation results showed good predictions of the static and the dynamic behavior of a main transformer cooling system. Therefore, mathematical models developed in this study may be effectively used for the development of control algorithms of a main transformer cooling system.
