Development of a Preprocessor Program for Articulated Total Body (ATB의 전처리 프로그램 개발)

  • Computer simulations are widely used to analyze passenger safety in simulated traffic accidents. ATB, Articulated Total Body, is a computer simulation model developed to predict gross human body response to such dynamic environments as vehicle crashes and pilot ejections. ATB, whose code is open, has high flexibility and application capability that users can easily insert defined modules and functions. ATB is, however, inconvenient as it was coded in FORTRAN and it needs a formated input file. Moreover, it takes much time to make input files and to modify coding errors. This study aims to increase user friendliness by adding a preprocessor program, WINATB(WINdows ATB), to the conventional ATB. WINATB, programmed in Visual C++ and OpenGL, uses ATB IV as a dynamic solver. The preprocessor helps users prepare input files through graphic interface and dialog box. An additional postprocessor makes the graphical presentation of simulated results. In these case of the frontal crash, the rear impact and the side impact, the simulation results obtained by WINATB and MADYMO(MAthematical Dynamic Model) are compared to validate the effectiveness of WINAIB.

An Adaptive Genetic Algorithm for a Dynamic Lot-sizing and Dispatching Problem with Multiple Vehicle Types and Delivery Time Windows (다종의 차량과 납품시간창을 고려한 동적 로트크기 결정 및 디스패칭 문제를 위한 자율유전알고리즘)

  • This paper considers an inbound lot-sizing and outbound dispatching problem for a single product in a thirdparty logistics (3PL) distribution center. Demands are dynamic and finite over the discrete time horizon, and moreover, each demand has a delivery time window which is the time interval with the dates between the earliest and the latest delivery dates All the product amounts must be delivered to the customer in the time window. Ordered products are shipped by multiple vehicle types and the freight cost is proportional to the vehicle-types and the number of vehicles used. First, we formulate a mixed integer programming model. Since it is difficult to solve the model as the size of real problem being very large, we design a conventional genetic algorithm with a local search heuristic (HGA) and an improved genetic algorithm called adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA). AGA spontaneously adjusts crossover and mutation rate depending upon the status of current population. Finally, we conduct some computational experiments to evaluate the performance of AGA with HGA.

  • An effective computer program for assembling fragments in DNA sequencing has been developed. The program, called SeqEditor (Sequence Editor), is usable on the pcrsonal computer systems of MS-Widows which is the mosl popular operating system in Korea. It c'm recd several sequence file formats such as GenBak, FASTA, and ASCII. In the SeqEditor program, a dynamic programming algorihm is applied to compute the maximalscoring overlapping alignment between each pjlr of fragments. A novel feature of the program is that SeqEdilor implemnents interaclive operation with a graphical user interface. The performance lests of the prograln 011 fragmen1 data from 16s and 18s rDNA sequencing pi-ojects produced saiisIactory results. This program may be useful to a person who has work of time with large-scale DNA sequencing projects.

  • In this paper, we developed a Windows 98 version of-line programming system which can simulate a track vehicle model in 3D graphics space. The track vehicle was adopted as an objective model. The interface between users and the off-line program system in the Windows 98's graphic user interface environment was also studied. The developing language is Microsoft Visual C++. Graphic libraries, OpenGL, by Silicon Graphics, Inc. were utilized for 3D Graphics.

An Algorithm for the Traveling Salesperson Problem with Time Windows and Lateness Costs

  • This paper presents a model and dynamic programming based algorithm for the Traveling Salesperson Problem with Time Windows (TSPTW). The main difference of our model compared with the previous ones lies in that the time windows we are concerned are far more flexible and realistic. In the typical TSPTW, the service at a node must begin within the time grid called the time window that is defined by the earliest and the latest time to start the service at the node. But, in real business practices, a lateness cost is usually penalized rather than the service is prohibited at all when a vehicle arrives after the latest time. Considering this situation, we propose a model with a new time window that allows an arrival after the latest time and penalizes the late arrival by charging a lateness cost. An algorithm introduced for the model is extensively tested to verify the accuracy and efficiency.

Technology Development Trends of Self-Powered Next Generation Smart Windows (PV 일체형 차세대 스마트 윈도우 기술개발 동향)

  • Among several types of energy saving smart window technologies, the leader, the dynamic EC (electrochromic) window one needs integrated PV (photovoltaics), to minimize expensive electrical wiring as well as to obviate the need for external energy. Self-powered smart windows were reviewed according to PV types used. DSSCs (dye sensitized solar cells) were found to be compatible with EC cells, to have several categories of next generation smart windows such as PECCs (photoelectrochromic cells), PVCCs (photovoltachromic cells), EC polymer PECCs. In addition silicon solar cells and third generation solar cells were investigated. They are summarized in a table showing their advantages and disadvantages respectively for a fast comparison. The strategy to expedite the commercialization of these next generation smart windows includes developing retrofit smart window coverings for use on flexible polymer substrates adhered to the inside surface of a window and easily replaced after use for upto 10 years.

  • In general, a fundamental structural design consideration for an automobile is the overall dynamic behavior in bending and torsion. Dynamic behavior of the automobile are mainly influenced by the structural stiffness of B.I.W.(body-in-white) and the physical property of trim components. In this paper, the modeling techniques for various trim components of middle-sized bus are presented, and the dynamic effects of the trim components on the vibration characteristics of the bus are investigated. The $1^{st}$ torsional frequency is decreased by attaching windshield and backlite to the B.I.W., but the $1^{st}$ vertical bending frequency and the $1^{st}$ lateral bending frequency are increased. The natural frequencies of the bus are decreased by attaching doors and windows. And also, the natural frequencies of the bus are large decreased by attaching seats, instrument panel etc. The study shows that the dynamic characteristics of the bus can be effectively predicted in the initial design stage.

  • This paper presents an authoring system for users to create and edit multimedia documents more easily. Our system supports dynamic authoring to feedback the inconsistency that could be occurred when users authorize and flexible media synchronization. For these, we define a new time relation based on causal relation and provide an internal representation using trees and structured document parsing. The system consists of the components such as visual interface, parsing, and presentation engine. It has been implemented on Microsoft Windows 95 with Visual C++.

  • This paper proposes a dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm with adaptive maximum transmission window (DBA-AMTW) to increase channel utilization in Ethernet passive optical networks (EPONs). A polling mechanism in EPON determines channel utilization and puts constraints on DBA algorithm and scheduling. DBA algorithms based on interleaved polling with stop (IPS) allocate transmission windows to optical network units (ONU) considering requests of all ONUs. However channel idle time when any ONU does not transmit packets decreases channel utilization. Proposed DBA-AMTW improves efficiency of a network and allocates transmission windows effectively by appropriate DBA computation from REPORT messages of all ONUs. An adaptive maximum transmission window for each ONU determined by a DBA computation in the previous scheduling cycle. Simulation results show that the proposed DBA algorithm improves performance of throughput and average delay time.
