  • This article develops a long-term condition assessment method for stay cables in cable stayed bridges using the monitored cable tension forces under operational condition. Based on the concept of influence surface, the matched cable tension ratio of two cables located at the same side (either in the upstream side or downstream side) is theoretically proven to be related to the condition of stay cables and independent of the positions of vehicles on the bridge. A sensor grouping scheme is designed to ensure that reliable damage detection result can be obtained even when sensor fault occurs in the neighbor of the damaged cable. Cable forces measured from an in-service cable-stayed bridge in China are used to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed method. Damage detection results show that the proposed approach is sensitive to the rupture of wire damage in a specific cable and is robust to environmental effects, measurement noise, sensor fault and different traffic patterns. Using the damage sensitive feature in the proposed approach, the metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score, which are used to evaluate the performance of damage detection, are 97.97%, 95.08%, 100% and 97.48%, respectively. These results indicate that the proposed approach can reliably detect the damage in stay cables. In addition, the proposed approach is efficient and promising with applications to the field monitoring of cables in cable-stayed bridges.

  • A numerical model analysis was performed to analyze the stability of the mooring lines of an automatic submersible fish cage system in waves and currents. The fish cage system consisted of a 12-angled rigid frame, net cage, cover net, 12 upper floats, 12 tanks(for fixed and variable ballast), mooring lines, anchors, and a control station. Simulations were performed with the cage at the surface of the water and at a depth of 20 m. A Morison equation type model was used for simulations of the system in two configurations. The force parameters described both regular and random waves, with and without currents, and their values were input to the model. Mooring tension calculations were conducted on the mooring lines, grid lines and lower bridle lines of the cage. The stability of the mooring lines was checked under both static and dynamic conditions.

  • The forced vibration analysis of the outer-clamped spinnig annular disk with arbitrary in-plane is formulated to investigate the influence of non-uniform tension on the cutting accuracy of wafer cutting machine. The arbitrary in-plan force along the outer edge of an annular plate is expressed as a Fourier series. Galerkin method and modal superposition method are employed to obtain the forced responses under the static force and the impulse force in astationary coordinate. Through qualitative and quantitative analyses, it can be found that forced and impulse responses are sensitive to the non-uniformity of in-plane force, which can bring a bad effect to the accuracy of wafer cutting process. Also, in case of a spinning disk with non-uniform in-plane force, critical speed is required to define in a different way, compared with conventional definition in axi-symmetrical spinning disk.

  • This paper adresses the shaking table tests with 1/100 scaled model followed similitude law for OOdam main designing section to understand nonlinear behavior characteristics of concrete dam body by ground motion. As earthquake wave, Hachinohe and El Centre waves were used and acceleration and displacements are measured to analyze behaviors of dam body. For maximum ground acceleration range $(0.3\~0.9 g)$, the results showed linear behavior regardless of maximum 9round acceleration and secured safety of structure. To analyze the behavior of dam after tension cracking, 3 cm-notch was placed at the critical section of over-flowing section. As results of applying Hachinohe wave(0.8 g), Even though tension cracks were formed at over-flowing section by Hachinohe wave(0.8 g), it showed that the dam is stable for supporting upper stream Part of water tank of dam.

In this paper an approach to method for scheme of a mobile control system is presented in a dynamic hybrid velocity/tension control of working robot. The working robot is composed the velocity and tension controllers using the concept of two-degrees-of-freedom servo-controller. • Since various parameters including the welding conditions and material properties are involved in metal transfer, it is difficult to figure out the effects of each parameter. In this study, dimensional analysis in performed to reduce the number of the parameters and to reveal the effect of each parameter on metal transfer. Dimensionless parameters are derived based on the inertia force and surface tension, and their contributions on metal transfer are estimated by analyzing the calculated results using the volume of fluid (VOF) method. Among several dimensionless parameters, $N_{SE}(=$\mu$_{0}I^{2}/d_{w}${\gamma}$)$ which represents the ratio of the electromagnetic force to surface tension, is found to be appropriate to describe metal transfer and estimate the transition current. Predicted results of transition current and drop size are in reasonably good agreements with available experimental date which show the validity of proposed dimensional analysis.

  • For predicting the motion and structural responses of tension leg platforms(TLPs) in regular waves, a numerical scheme is introduced. The numerical approach in this paper is based on a combination of the three dimensional source distribution method and the finite element method. The hydrodynamic interactions among TLP members, such as columns and pontoons, are included in the motion and structural response analysis. The drag forces on the submerged slender members, which are proportional to the square of relative velocity, are newly included in order to estimate the responses of members with better accuracy. Comparisons with other's results verifies the works in this paper.

  • Optimization in distribution of stay cable forces is one of the most difficult aspects in the design of cable-stayed bridges. This article attempts to examine tension force influence on structural behavior of cable-stayed bridges. For the examination, finite element modeling using nonlinear static and nonlinear modal analyses was completed and compared to structural experimental results. Variables analyzed in this parametric study were: 1) Number of stay cables; 2) Tension of the stay cables, and 3) Stay cable pattern - harp and semi-fan patterns. Though the findings from the analysis are limited to the tested models, the study gives insight on the structural behavior of actual cable stayed bridges.
