This paper presents the research results of a light weight through topology optimization and structural safety evaluation through structural analysis of a pressure system structure installed in an off-shore plant. Conducting a structure design according to the wind load and the dynamic load at sea in addition to a self-load and structure stability evaluation are very important for structures installed in off-shore plants. In this study, the wind and dynamic load conditions according to the DNV classification rule was applied to the analysis. The topology optimization method was applied to the structure to obtain a lightweight shape. Phase optimization analysis confirmed the stress concentration portion. Topology optimization analysis takes the shape by removing unnecessary elements in the design that have been designed to form a rib shape. Based on the analysis results about the light weight optimal shape, a safety evaluation through structural analysis and suitability of the shape was conducted. This study suggests a design and safety evaluation of an off-shore plant structure that is difficult for structural safety evaluations using an actual test.

Brillouin backscatter is a type of reflection that occurs when light is shone into an optical fibre. Brillouin reflections are very sensitive to changes in the fibre arising from external effects, such as temperature, strain and pressure. We report here several case studies on the measurement of strain using Brillouin reflections. A mechanical bending test of an I beam, deployed with both fiber optic sensors and conventional strain gauge rosettes, was performed with the aim of evaluating: (1) the capability and technical limit of the DTSS technology for strain profile sensing; (2) the reliability of strain measurement using fiber optic sensor. The average values of strains obtained from both DTSS and strain gauges (corresponding to the deflection of I beam) showed a linear relationship and an excellent one-to-one match. A practical application of DTSS technology as an early warning system for land sliding or subsidence was examined through a field test at a hillside. Extremely strong, lightweight, rugged, survivable tight-buffered cables, designed for optimal strain transfer to the fibre, were used and clamped on the subsurface at a depth of about 50cm. It was proved that DTSS measurements could detect the exact position and the progress of strain changes induced by land sliding and subsidence. We also carried out the first ever distributed dynamic strain measurement (10Hz) on the Korean Train eXpress(KTX) railway track in Daejeon, Korea. The aim was to analyse the integrity of a section of track that had recently been repaired. The Sensornet DTSS was used to monitor this 85m section of track while a KTX train passed over. In the repaired section the strain increases to levels of 90 microstrain, whereas in the section of regular track the strain is in the region of 30-50 microstrain. The results were excellent since they demonstrate that the DTSS is able to measure small, dynamic changes in strain in rails during normal operating conditions. The current 10km range of the DTSS creates a potential to monitor the integrity of large lengths of track, and especially higher risk sections such as bridges, repaired track and areas at risk of subsidence.
The wind design of buildings is typically based on strength provisions under ultimate loads. This is unlike the ductility-based approach used in seismic design, which allows inelastic actions to take place in the structure under extreme seismic events. This research investigates the application of a similar concept in wind engineering. In seismic design, the elastic forces resulting from an extreme event of high return period are reduced by a load reduction factor chosen by the designer and accordingly a certain ductility capacity needs to be achieved by the structure. Two reasons have triggered the investigation of this ductility-based concept under wind loads. Firstly, there is a trend in the design codes to increase the return period used in wind design approaching the large return period used in seismic design. Secondly, the structure always possesses a certain level of ductility that the wind design does not benefit from. Many technical issues arise when applying a ductility-based approach under wind loads. The use of reduced design loads will lead to the design of a more flexible structure with larger natural periods. While this might be beneficial for seismic response, it is not necessarily the case for the wind response, where increasing the flexibility is expected to increase the fluctuating response. This particular issue is examined by considering a case study of a sixty-five-story high-rise building previously tested at the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory at the University of Western Ontario using a pressure model. A three-dimensional finite element model is developed for the building. The wind pressures from the tested rigid model are applied to the finite element model and a time history dynamic analysis is conducted. The time history variation of the straining actions on various structure elements of the building are evaluated and decomposed into mean, background and fluctuating components. A reduction factor is applied to the fluctuating components and a modified time history response of the straining actions is calculated. The building components are redesigned under this set of reduced straining actions and its fundamental period is then evaluated. A new set of loads is calculated based on the modified period and is compared to the set of loads associated with the original structure. This is followed by non-linear static pushover analysis conducted individually on each shear wall module after redesigning these walls. The ductility demand of shear walls with reduced cross sections is assessed to justify the application of the load reduction factor "R".
The main purpose of the current research is to introduce the alternative algorithm of the non-recursive batch filter based on the unscented transformation in which the linearization process is unnecessary. The presented algorithm is applied to the orbit determination of a low earth orbiting satellite and compared its results with those of the well-known Bayesian batch least squares estimation and the iterative UKF smoother (IUKS). The system dynamic equations consist of the Earth's geo-potential, the atmospheric drag, solar radiation pressure and the lunar/solar gravitational perturbations. The range, azimuth and elevation angles of the satellite measured from ground stations are used for orbit determination. The characteristics of the non recursive unscented batch filter are analyzed for various aspects, including accuracy of the determined orbit, sensitivity to the initial uncertainty, measurement noise and stability performance in a realistic dynamic system and measurement model. As a result, under large non-linear conditions, the presented non-recursive batch filter yields more accurate results than the other batch filters about 5% for initial uncertainty test and 12% for measurement noise test. Moreover, the presented filter exhibits better convergence reliability than the Bayesian least squares. Hence, it is concluded that the non-recursive batch filter based on the unscented transformation is effectively applicable for highly nonlinear batch estimation problems.

Size verification of small and large bubbles in a bubble column was investigated by employing the dynamic gas disengagement (DGD) method and dual electrical resistivity probe (DRP) method, simultancously. The holdups of large and small bubbles in the bubble column in a given operating condition were obtained by means of the DGD method by measuring the pressure drop variation in the column with a variation of time after stopping the gas input into the column. The size and frequency of bubbles were measured by the DRP method in the same operating condition, from which the bubble holdup of each range of size was obtained. The verification of size in determining the large or small bubbles was decided by comparing the holdups of large or small bubbles measured by the DGD method with that measured by the DRP method. Filtered compressed air and tap water were used as a gas and a continuous liquid medium. The diameter and height of the bubble column were 0.102 m and 1.5 m, respectively. The demarcation size between the large and the small bubbles in the bubble column was 4.0~5.0 mm; the demarcation size was about 5.0 mm when the gas velocity was in the relatively low range, but about 4.0 mm when the gas velocity was in the relatively high range, within this experimental conditions.

It is desired to use a domestically manufactured ocean data buoy for the long-term operational ocean monitoring. The ocean data buoy manufacturing technology was introduced through the research cooperation with the Qingkong University of Taiwan. The introduced ocean data buoy system was further expanded and improved for more efficient application for the marine environmental monitoring in Korea. The size of the ocean data buoy is 2.5 m in diameter, which is smaller compared to the NOAA's 3.0 m discus buoy to allow easy land transportation and ocean deployment as well. From the dynamic response test of the buoy carried out numerically, it was shown that the measurement of waves with period greater than 4 seconds is acceptable. The measurement and control system of the data buoy were improved to increase the number of measuring parameters, to reduce power consumption and to enhance better data analysis and management. Each component of the improved data buoy system was described in detail in this paper. Water quality sensors of water temperature, salinity, DO, pH and turbidity were added to the system in addition to the marine meteorological sensors of wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity, air pressure and wave. Inmarsat satellite communication system is used for the real-time data telemetry from the buoy deployed offshore. A field performance test of the improved and domestically manufactured buoy was carried out for a month at the open sea off Pohang together with DatawelI's Wave-rider buoy to compare the wave data. The results of the test were satisfactory.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the GRF(ground reaction force) parameters according to the shoes's heel heights and ground landing distances during downward stairs on bus. Participants selected as subject were consisted of young and healthy women(n=9, mean age: $21.30{\pm}0.48$ yrs, mean height: $164.00{\pm}3.05cm$, mean body mass: $55.04{\pm}4.41kg$, mean BMI: $20.47{\pm}1.76kg/m^2$, mean foot length: $238.00{\pm}5.37mm$). They were divided into 2-types of shoe's heel heights(0 cm/bare foot, 9 cm) and also were divides into downward stairs with 3 types of landing distance(20 cm, 35 cm, 50 cm). A one force-plate was used to collect the GRF(AMTI, USA) data from the sampling rate of 1000 Hz. The GRF parameters analyzed were consisted of the medial-lateral GRF, anterior-posterior GRF, vertical GRF, loading rate, Center of Pressure(${\Delta}COPx$, ${\Delta}COPy$, COP area) and Dynamic Postural Stability Index(MLSI, APSI, VSI, DPSI) during downward stairs on bus. Medial-lateral GRF and vertical GRF didn't show significant differences statistically according to the shoe's heel heights and landing distance, but 9 cm shoes heel showed higher vertical GRF than that of 0 cm bare foot in landing distance of 50 cm. Also anterior-posterior GRF didn't show significant difference statistically according to the shoe's heel heights, but landing distance of 20 cm showed higher than that of landing distances of 35 cm and 50 cm in anterior-posterior GRF. Loading rate didn't show significant difference statistically according to the landing distance, but 9 cm shoe's heel showed higher than that of 0 cm bare foot during downward stairs. The ${\Delta}COPy$ and COP area didn't show significant differences statistically according to the shoe's heel heights and landing distance, but 0 cm bare foot showed higher than that of 9 cm shoe's heel in ${\Delta}COPx$. Dynamic Postural Stability Index(MLSI, APSI, VSI, DPSI) didn't show significant differences statistically according to the landing distance, but 9 cm shoe's heel showed decreased value than that of 0 cm bare foot in dynamics balance. Considering the above, parameters of GRF showed different characteristics according to the shoe's heel heights and ground landing distances during downward stairs on bus.

$^{64}Cu$-labeled diacetyl-bis($N^4$-methylthiosemicarbazone) is a promising agent for internal radiation therapy and imaging of hypoxic tissues. In the study, we confirmed hypoxia regions in VX2 tumor implanted rabbits with injection $^{64}Cu$-ATSM and $^{18}F$-FDG using positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT). PET images with $^{18}F$-FDG and $^{64}Cu$-ATSM were obtained for 40 min by dynamic scan and additional delayed PET images of $^{64}Cu$-ATSM the acquired up to 48 hours. Correlation between intratumoral $O_2$ level and $^{64}Cu$-ATSM PET image was analyzed. $^{64}Cu$-ATSM and $^{18}F$-FDG were intravenously co-injected and the tumor was dissected and cut into slices for a dual-tracer autoradiographic analysis. In the PET imaging, $^{64}Cu$-ATSM in VX2 tumors displayed a specific uptake in hypoxic region for48 h. The uptake pattern of $^{64}Cu$-ATSM in VX2 tumor at 24 and 48 h did not match to the $^{18}F$-FDG. Through ROI analysis, in the early phase (dynamic scan), $^{18}F$-FDG has positive correlation with $^{64}Cu$-ATSM but late phase (24 and 48 h) of the $^{64}Cu$-ATSM showed negative correlation with $^{18}F$-FDG. High uptake of $^{64}Cu$-ATSM in hypoxic region was responded with significant decrease of oxygen pressure, which confirmed by $^{64}Cu$-ATSM PET imaging and autoradiographic analysis. In conclusion, $^{64}Cu$-ATSM can utilize for specific targeting of hypoxic region in tumor, and discrimination between necrotic- and viable hypoxic tissue.

Special chemical warfare agents are lethal gases that attack the human respiratory system. One of such gases are blood agents that react with the irons present in the electron transfer system of the human body. This reaction stops internal respiration and eventually causes death. The molecular sizes of these agents are smaller than the pores of an activated carbon, making chemical adsorption the only alternative method for removing them. In this study, we carried out a Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation by passing a blood agent: cyanogen chloride gas through an SG-1 gas mask canister developed by SG Safety Corporation. The adsorption bed consisted of a Silver-Zinc-Molybdenum-Triethylenediamine activated carbon impregnated with copper, silver, zinc and molybdenum ions. The kinetic analysis of the chemical adsorption was performed in accordance with the test procedure for the gas mask canister and was validated by the kinetic data obtained from experimental results. We predicted the dynamic behaviors of the main variables such as the pressure drop inside the canister and the amount of gas adsorbed by chemisorption. By using a granular packed bed instead of the Ergun equation that is used to model porous materials in Computational Fluid Dynamics, applicable results of the activated carbon were obtained. Dynamic simulations and flow analyses of the chemical adsorption with varying gas flow rates were also executed.

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effects of 8weeks Kettlebell training on the FMS and Balance in Middle school baseball player. Fourteen middle school baseball players were randomly assigned to a kettlebell group (n=8) and a control group (n=6), and kettlebell training was applied twice a week for 60 minutes. And the FMS, Y-balance test and static and dynamic balance test using smart shoes were tested before and after kettlebell training. Repeated two-way ANOVA measures was performed both before and after the exercise to verify the effect of kettlebell training. Also, if there was an interaction between time and group, a paired sample t-test was performed for each group. As a results of the study, FMS score showed a significant difference in IL (Inline Lunge) and TS(Total Score), and there was no significant difference in other variables of FMS. The YBT score showed a significant difference in all YBT variables except for the left AT. And the balance test using smart shoes, there was no significant interaction effect between group and period in all variables. In conclusion, it was found that the application of kettlebell training in middle school baseball players had an effects on the FMS and YBT scores related to functional movement and functional balance, but it did not affect the static/dynamic balance test using smart shoes evaluated by the foot pressure method. It seems that the results of this study can be provided as basic data necessary for planning a training program for middle school baseball players.
