Measurement-based Estimation of the Composite Load Model Parameters

  • Power system loads have a significant impact on a system. Although it is difficult to precisely describe loads in a mathematical model, accurately modeling them is important for a system analysis. The traditional load modeling method is based on the load components of a bus. Recently, the load modeling method based on measurements from a system has been introduced and developed by researchers. The two major components of a load modeling problem are determining the mathematical model for the target system and estimating the parameters of the determined model. We use the composite load model, which has both static and dynamic load characteristics. The ZIP model and the induction motor model are used for the static and dynamic load models, respectively. In this work, we propose the measurement-based parameter estimation method for the composite load model. The test system and related measurements are obtained using transient security assessment tool(TSAT) simulation program and PSS/E. The parameter estimation is then verified using these measurements. Cases are tested and verified using the sample system and its related measurements.

  • This paper presents the generalized dynamic modeling of self-excited induction generator (SEIG) using state-space approach. The proposed dynamic model consists of induction generator; self-excitation capacitance and load model are expressed in stationary d-q reference frame with the actual saturation curve of the machine. An artificial neural network model is implemented to estimate the machine magnetizing inductance based on the knowledge of magnetizing current. The dynamic performance of SEIG is investigated under no load, with the load, perturbation of load, short circuit at stator terminals, and variation of prime mover speed, variation of capacitance value by considering the effect of main and cross-flux saturation. During voltage buildup the variation in magnetizing inductance is taken into consideration. The performance of SEIG system under various conditions as mentioned above is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the simulation results demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • Increasingly nonlinear dynamic loads have been connected into power systems. This adds to the harmonics in the power system. In traditional load modeling techniques, the harmonics has not been considered. Thus, the harmonics problems in load modeling are considered and ANN load modeling is proposed.

  • As the time goes by, the energy use in buildings are increasing threateningly. So, it is important to have an accurate energy load calculation for buildings. The accurate energy simulation program carries numerous input data. So, our purpose of this study is to verify the application of simplify modeling method which eliminates coordinates of building components instead of using full coordinates by using DOE2. After comparing original modeling method with simplify modeling method, we applied PAF for daylighting control in the building to verify the application of daylighting control in simplify modeling method. The results shows that there are little difference between original modeling and simplify modeling. Also it showed that application of daylighting control has little difference between original modeling so it is feasible to adapt simplify modeling. These results reveals that the application of simplify modeling is possible to predict energy load and use of the building.

  • Electric load components have different characteristics according to the variation of voltage and frequency. This paper presents the load modeling of an electric locomotive by the parameter identification method. The proposed method for load modeling is very simple and easy for application. The proposed load model of the electric locomotive is represented by the combination of the loads that have static and dynamic characteristics. This load modeling is applied to the KTX in Korea to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results of proposed load modeling by the parameter identification follow the field measurements very exactly.

  • Boiler design should be desinged to maximize thermal efficiency of the system under imposed load requirement and a boiler should be validated for transient operation. If a proper prediction is possible on the transient behavior and transient characteristics of a boiler, one may asses the performance of boiler component, control logics and operation procedures. In this work, dynamic modeling method of boiler is presented and dynamic simulation of load runback scenario was carried out on suprecritical oil-firing boiler.

  • In this paper, transient voltage response of Polmer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) stack is analyzed and voltage dynamic characteristic is modeled for optimal design of power conditioning system (PCS). According that the load is changed, the corresponding operating voltage of fuel cell stack is also varied with a certain deep and rising time due to the chemical and mechanical responses. This transient behavior can affect on the operation with respect of PI gain in controller, duty ratio, capacitor of capacitor and so on. So in this paper the detailed theoretical analysis of transient voltage dynamics is explained and the methodology of dynamic modeling is introduced. In addition, the validity and feasibility of the proposed dynamic model is verified by experimental results under various load conditions.

  • Many load modeling concepts have been proposed in the past. Efforts of load modeling may be summarized into three approaches ; the first one is to find an aggregation of various different load components scattered and distributed in an area. The second one is to find parameters to represent load from field tests, if any. And the third one is how to present the load of motor components could be represented. This paper proposes a system identification of combined load modeling to cover the second approach. In this paper, an improved method of system identification is suggested for the combined load model (dynamic and static load model) in which parameters of the equivalent induction motor. polynomial type load and their compositions.
