This paper proposes a real-time implementation of an optimal operation of a double stage grid connected wind power system incorporating an active power filter (APF). The system is used to supply the nonlinear loads with harmonics and reactive power compensation. On the generator side, a new adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control is proposed to track the maximum wind power point regardless of wind speed fluctuations. Whereas on the grid side, a modified predictive current control (PCC) algorithm is used to control the APF, and allow to ensure both compensating harmonic currents and injecting the generated power into the grid. Also a type 2 fuzzy logic controller is used to control the DC-link capacitor in order to improve the dynamic response of the APF, and to ensure a well-smoothed DC-Link capacitor voltage. The gained benefits from these proposed control algorithms are the main contribution in this work. The proposed control scheme is implemented on a small-scale wind energy conversion system (WECS) controlled by a dSPACE 1104 card. Experimental results show that the proposed T2FLC maintains the DC-Link capacitor voltage within the limit for injecting the power into the grid. In addition, the PCC of the APF guarantees a flexible settlement of real power exchanges from the WECS to the grid with a high power factor operation.
The recent interest in distributed generation (DG) due to the opening of the electricity market and the need for alternatives to conventional fossil fuel-based electricity generation has created renewed interest in grid-connected photovoltaic(PV) systems. Many studies are being performed at the power system level to examine the impacts of grid-connected PV systems and several models for PV arrays have been proposed in the literature. However, the complexity of these models and difficulties of implementing them in various software programs can be deterrents to their use. This paper proposes a robust and flexible PV device model suitable for dynamic and transient studies where the PV array's non-linear DC characteristics are important. The model's implementation in software is straightforward and it can even be constructed using standard software library components, as demonstrated using PSCAD/EMTDC.

The Yellow Sea is characterized by relatively shallow water depth, varying range of tidal action and very complex coastal geometry such as islands, bays, peninsulas, tidal flats, shoals etc. The dynamic system is controlled by tides, regional winds, river discharge, and interaction with the Kuroshio. The circulation, water mass properties and their variability in the Yellow Sea are very complicated and still far from clear understanding. In this study, an effort to improve our understanding the dynamic feature of the Yellow Sea system was conducted using numerical simulation with the ROMS model, applying climatologic forcing such as winds, heat flux and fresh water precipitation. The inter-annual variability of general circulation and thermohaline structure throughout the year has been obtained, which has been compared with observational data sets. The simulated horizontal distribution and vertical cross-sectional structures of temperature and salinity show a good agreement with the observational data indicating significantly the water masses such as Yellow Sea Warm Water, Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water, Changjiang River Diluted Water and other sporadically observed coastal waters around the Yellow Sea. The tidal effects on circulation and dynamic features such as coastal tidal fronts and coastal mixing are predominant in the Yellow Sea. Hence the tidal effects on those dynamic features are dealt in the accompanying paper (Kim et at., 2004). The ROMS model adopts curvilinear grid with horizontal resolution of 35 km and 20 vertical grid spacing confirming to relatively realistic bottom topography. The model was initialized with the LEVITUS climatologic data and forced by the monthly mean air-sea fluxes of momentum, heat and fresh water derived from COADS. On the open boundaries, climatological temperature and salinity are nudged every 20 days for data assimilation to stabilize the modeling implementation. This study demonstrates a Yellow Sea version of Atlantic Basin experiment conducted by Haidvogel et al. (2000) experiment that the ROMS simulates the dynamic variability of temperature, salinity, and velocity fields in the ocean. However the present study has been improved to deal with the large river system, open boundary nudging process and further with combination of the tidal forcing that is a significant feature in the Yellow Sea.

Micro-source units having power ratings in thousands of watts can provide power quality with higher reliability and efficiency than the conventional large scale units. Since these units are small and easy to install, they are clustered with loads creating micro-grid services to customer sites such as office buildings, industrial parks and homes. Micro-sources adopt voltage source inverter to ensure the power quality of sensitive loads. This paper deals with the connection of micro-sources into the system grid EMTDC modeling of the grid connected micro-sources at the power frequency range are proposed and the characteristics of the control system parameters are investigated. Simulation results show that the micro-grid system with two micro-sources has good dynamic characteristics.

In this paper, we propose to study the possibility of using a photovoltaic system combined with a high speed micro-turbine. This hybrid system can work as stand-alone system or grid connected system as it will be a part of a micro-grid. Initially, we propose Matlab/Simulink dynamic models of photovoltaic, micro turbine systems and supercapacitor. Then, we carry out a simulation comparison of the two systems, this is, with supercapacitor and without supercapacitor bank. We show that supercapacitor bank as short-term storage device was necessary to reduce the fast fluctuation of power in the case of sensitive loads. It is verified the simulation results of Matlab/Simulink based hybrid power system represent the effectiveness of the suggested hybrid power system.

The paper addresses modeling and analysis of a grid-connected photovoltaic generation system (PV system). PSCAD/EMTDC, an industry standard simulation tool for studying the transient behavior of electric power system and apparatus, is used to conduct all aspects of model implementation and to carry out extensive simulation study. This paper is aimed at sharing with the PSCAD/EMTDC user community our user-defined model for PV system applications, which is not yet available as a standard model within PSCAD/EMTDC. An equivalent circuit model of a solar cell has been used for modeling solar array. A series of parameters required for array modeling have been estimated from general specification data of a solar module. A PWM voltage source inverter (VSI) and its current control scheme have been implemented. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is employed for drawing the maximum available energy from the PV array. Comprehensive simulation results are presented to examine PV array behaviors and PV system control performance in response to irradiation changes. In addition, dynamic responses of PV array and system to network fault conditions are simulated and analysed.
The replicas in the Grid database is utilized for a lot of application services. And for deferent services or for deferent information depends on location, the access frequency of each replica is dissimilar. When one replica is stored in many nodes, each replicas applies the week-consistency in the grid computing environment. Especially, when a node work load or operation capacity is varied from others, the replica management would cost expansive. Therefore, this paper proposed the Update Method based on Dynamic Access-Frequency Tree. The dynamic access-frequency tree is pre-constructed by grouping nodes based on each nodes access frequency to manage the replica efficiently and avoid unbalance replica tree. The performance evaluation shows the proposed methods support more quick update than current methods.

Microturbines system (MTS) are currently being deployed as small scale on-site distributed generators for microgrids and smart grids. In order to fully exploit DG potentialities, advanced integrated controls that include power electronics facilities, communication technologies and advanced modeling are required. Significant expectations are posed on gas microturbines that can be easily installed in large commercial and public buildings. Modeling, control, simulation of microturbine generator based distributed generation system in smart grid application of buildings for both grid-connected and islanding conditions are presented. It also incorporates modeling and simulation of MT with a speed control system of the MT-permanent magnet synchronous generator to keep the speed constant with load variation. Model and simulations are performed using MATLAB, Simulink and SimPowerSystem software package. The model is built from the dynamics of each part with their interconnections. This simplified model is a useful tool for studying the various operational aspects of MT and is also applicable with building cooling, heating and power (BCHP) systems
This paper proposes a single-phase unified power quality conditioner (S-UPQC) for maintaining power quality issues in a microgrid. The S-UPQC can compensate the voltage and current harmonics, voltage sag, and swell as a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR), regardless of variations in the grid frequency. Odd harmonics are treated as even-order harmonics in a rotating frame to implement the harmonic compensators with only one repetitive controller (RC) without any harmonic extractor. The dynamic performance is improved and the delay time is reduced in the RC. The S-UPQC control scheme is designed to maintain accurate and stable operation under deviations of the grid frequency by using the Lagrange interpolation-based finite-impulse-response (LIFIR) filter approximation method. The proposed control schemes were validated through a simulation and experiment.
This paper elucidates a hysteresis current controller for enhancing the performance of static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) using cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter. Due to the rising power demand and growing conventional generation costs a new alternative in renewable energy source is gaining popularity and recognition. A five level single phase cascaded multilevel inverter with two separated dc sources, which is energized by photovoltaic - wind hybrid energy source. The voltages across the each dc source is balanced and standardized by the proposed hysteresis current controller. The performance of STATCOM is analyzed by connecting with grid connected system, under the steady state & dynamic state. To reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and to improve the output voltage, closed loop hysteresis current control is achieved using PLL and PI controller. The performance of the proposed system is scrutinized through various simulation results using matlab/simulink and hardware results are also verified with simulation results.
