Marine structures are often in contact with inner or outer fluid as stern, ballast and oil tanks. The effect of interaction between fluid and structure has to be taken into consideration when we estimate the dynamic response of the structure appropriately. Fatigue damages can also be sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance. Thin walled tank structures in ships which are in contact with water and located near engine or propeller where vibration characteristics are strongly affected by the added mass of containing water. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration characteristics of tank structures. But it is difficult to estimate exactly the magnitude of the added mass because this is a fluid-structure interaction problem and is affected by the free surface, vibration modes of structural panels and the depth of water. I have developed a numerical tool of vibration analysis of 3-dimensional tank structure using finite elements for plates and boundary elements for fluid region. In the present study, the effect of added mass of containing water, the effect of structural constraint between panels on the vibration characteristics are investigated numerically and discussed. Especially a natural frequencies by the fluid interaction between 2 panels and a breath mode of the water tank are focused on.
The asphalt mixture with CRM(Crumb Rubber Modifier) is known to show a better performance in resisting thermal cracking, fatigue cracking, and rutting compared with the conventional mixture. In this research, the lab tests on the physical and the mechanical characteristics of the domestic crumb rubber modified asphalt binder and conventional asphalts (AP-3, AP-5) were conducted. The physical test results show that CRM asphalt has better physical characteristics than that of conventional asphalts. The dynamic shear rheometer test results in high temperature show that CRM asphalt has higher complex shear modulus and aging resistance than those of conventional asphalts. And, the bending beam rheometer in low temperature test results show that CRM asphalt has higher resistance to thermal cracking than that of conventional asphalts.

In this paper, a shape optimization technique is applied to design of an air-conditioner mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is a structural component of an engine, on which bolts attach an air-conditioner compressor. The air-conditioner mounting bracket has a large portion of weight among the engine components. To reduce weight of the bracket, the shape is optimized using a finite element software. The compressor assembly, composed of a compressor and a bracket is modeled using finite elements. An objective function for the shape optimization of the bracket is the weight of the bracket. Two design constraints on the bracket are the first resonant frequency of the compressor assembly and the fatigue life of the bracket. The design variables are the shape of the bracket including thickness profiles of the front and back surfaces of the bracket, radius of outer bolt-holes, and side edge profiles. The coordinates of the FE nodes control the shape parameters. Optimal shapes of the bracket are obtained by using SOL200 of MSC/NASTRAN.

A bogie is the device that connects a car body and wheel sets of a rail vehicle. It is the critical component that determine:; the running safety, The bogie consists of a frame, suspensions, brakes and wheel sets. Various analyses including a numerical simulation using a finite element method, a static load test, a fatigue test, ai)d r running test should be carried out to design the bogie. However cracks have been found at some end beams of the bogies mounted on the freight cars running with the high speed. The cracks of the end beam results in deterioration of the brake performance an the running safety, A new design has been suggested to solve this problem by ROTEM company and it's performance has been tested in this paper. Numerical simulations and dynamic tests are carried out to figure out the causes of cracks in the conventional bogie, and the vibrational characteristics of the improved bogie are compared with those of the conventional one.

In the development of a vibration-based condition monitoring system in gearbox, one of the most important research topics is a quantitative analysis and test of the effect of gear damage on vibration of gearbox. This paper presents the evaluation result of vibration condition indicator according to the gear tooth damage through the vibration test of gearbox. The dynamic load test was performed with high speed railway (KTX)'s gearbox. The vibration of gearbox was measured according to a rotational speed change with the common gear fault modes, such as pitting and tooth breakage. The characteristics and the possibility of applying of vibration condition indicator on condition monitoring system were analyzed. As a result, the value of most condition indicator is gradually increased with the severity of gear faults. The NA6 indicator shows a low variation with the rotational speed change and high sensitivity in accordance with the gear fault.

Electro-Mechanical Actuator installed on aircraft consists of a decelerator which magnifies the torque to rotate an axis connected with aircraft control surface, a control section which controls the motor assembly through receiving orders from cockpit and a motor assembly which rotates the decelerator. EMA controls aircraft attitued, position, landing, takeoff, etc. It is important part of a aircraft. Aircraft maneuvering make vibration of EMA. Vibration may cause the vibration fatigue. For that reason, it is necessary to analyze the system safety. In this paper, first EMA is modeled in finite element method and analyzed the response from input vibration. second EMA is tested and analyzed from modal experimental data. third EMA Fe model is updated and re analyzed. and EMA is verified safety with $3{\sigma}$ stress and S/N curves.

If a plugged tube in a steam generator is broken, it may damage nearby intact tubes. To prevent this damage, it is recommended that a stabilizer is installed into the plugged tube. However, the installation cost of a stabilizer is very high. So studies are required to determine the conditions on which the installation is necessary. For this purpose static loads and dynamic loads applied on a tube should be known to estimate the residual strength and remaining fatigue and wear life of a plugged tube. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses are performed to obtain the drag coefficient for cross flow to a tube. Using the obtained drag coefficient, the static load can be estimated and the residual strength of a plugged tube can be calculated. An inclined flow problem is also analyzed and the vertical and horizontal forces are obtained and discussed.

Experiments and a numerical simulation were conducted to investigate the deformation and impact behavior of a corroded pipe, as corrosion, fatigue, and collision phenomena frequently occur in subsea pipelines. This study focuses on the deformation of the corrosion region and the variation of the geometry of the pipe under impact loading. The experiments for the impact behavior of the corroded pipe were performed using an impact test apparatus to validate the results of the simulation. In addition, during the simulation, material tests were performed, and the results were applied to the simulation. The ABAQUS explicit finite element analysis program was used to perform numerical simulations for the parametric study, as well as experiment scenarios, to investigate the effects of defects under impact loading. In addition, the modified ASME B31.8 code formula was proposed to define the damage range for the dented pipe.
Many tanks are installed in ship and marine structures. They are often in contact with inner or outer fluid, like ballast, fuel and cargo tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these thin walled tanks in contact with fluid near engine and propeller are strongly affected by added mass of containing fluid. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration of the tanks. Many authors have studied vibration of cylindrical and rectangular tanks containing fluid. Few research on dynamic interaction among tank walls through fluid are reported in the vibration of rectangular tanks recently. In case of rectangular tanks, structural coupling between adjacent panels and effect of vibration modes of multiple panels on added mass have to be considered. In the previous report, A numerical tool of vibration analysis of a 3-dimensional tank is developed by using finite element method for plates and boundary element method for fluid region. In this paper, the coupling effect between panels of a tank on added mass of containing fluid, the effect of structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode for fluid region and mode characteristics in accordance with changing breadth of the plates are investigated numerically and discussed.

Mounts for shipboard equipment in naval ships play an important role for vibration and shock suppression. New large-capacity resilient mounts, SDR-D30 and SDR-D45, have been developed. This paper involves performance tests for the mount which have maximum load of 30 kN and 45 kN, respectively. The performance tests have been carried out for several mounts based on military standards, such as MIL-M-19863D(SH), MIL-M-21693C(SH), MIL-M-17508F(SH), and MIL-S-901D(NAVY). The test items consist of deflection at upper rate load test, dynamic stiffness, uniformity, static load-deflection(axial, transverse and longitudinal), drift test, fatigue test, and shock test. From these performance tests, it is confirmed that the two mounts have good performances based on military standards.
