Internal and external heat sources will cause to deform to machine elements in the contact joint of structure, which results in the change of contact pressure distribution different from initial assembly. Heat induced variations of contact pressure will change the static and dynamic properties such as contact stiffness, damping as well as contact heat conduction in the structure. In order to design and control the intelligent machine tool operating in variant conditions more sophisticatedly, the good prediction for the changes of prescribed propeties are strongly required especially in the contact elements adjacent to the rotational or linear bearing This paper presents some computational and experimental results in regard to static and dynamic characteristics of the press-fitted bush and shaft assembly which is a model of the bearing innerrace and shaft assembly. In the condition of heat generation on the outer surface of the bush, the effects of changes in the negative clearance and the heat flux on pressure distribution and dynamic properties are investigated. Results of this study show that the edge effect of the bush and the initial clearance have effects on the transient dynamic characteristics significantiy.

An efficient dynamic analysis method is developed f3r building structures subjected to ground home loadings. The soil medium is modeled using the finite elements and infinite elements. Then, the dynamic stiffness of the soil medium is calculated at the interfacial nodes between the soil and the building foundation. The equivalent subway loading at the interfacial nodes are obtained from the wave propagation analysis of the subway loading through the soil medium. The dynamic response of the building Is computed using the mode superposition method equipped with gauss-seidel iteration technique. The analysis is carried out by the frequency domain and the time domain methods.
The static and dynamic analyses of simply supported beams are studied by using the U-transformation method and the finite difference method. When the beam is divided into the mesh of equal elements, the mesh may be treated as a periodic structure. After an equivalent cyclic periodic system is established, the difference governing equation for such an equivalent system can be uncoupled by applying the U-transformation. Therefore, a set of single-degree-of-freedom equations is formed. These equations can be used to obtain exact analytical solutions of the deflections, bending moments, buckling loads, natural frequencies and dynamic responses of the beam subjected to particular loads or excitations. When the number of elements approaches to infinity, the exact error expression and the exact convergence rates of the difference solutions are obtained. These exact results cannot be easily derived if other methods are used instead.
A vectorial approach is used to reduce the objectionable booming noise in the vehicle interior cabin. After identifying the structural transmisson paths, the structural-acoustic transfer functions are evaluated at those mounting positions. Using the measured deformations in the mounting elements and multiplying them with each dynamic stiffness value one can easily get the dynamic input forces acting on the mounting elements. By summing all the contributors vectorially, most important contributor or transmission path can be determined. According to the experimental information, devised countermeasures are applied to a development car and good results are obtained.
A FE-(FE-HE)-BE procedure is presented for dynamic analysis of concrete arch dams. In this technique, dam body is discretized by solid finite elements, while the reservoir domain is considered by a combination of fluid finite elements and a three-dimensional fluid hyper-element. Furthermore, foundation rock domain is handled by three-dimensional boundary element formulation. Based on this method, a previously developed program is modified, and the response of Morrow Point arch dam is studied for various conditions. Moreover, the effects of canyon shape on response of dam, is also discussed.
XML documents consist of elements that are basic units of information. When the structure of XML documents is changed dynamically, we need to update structure information efficiently without changing the information of the index structure for fast retrieval. In this paper, we propose a dynamic indexing model scheme that updates the index structure in real time as the structure of XML documents is changed by insertion and deletion of elements. Our dynamic indexing model consists of a structure information representation method and a dynamic index structure. The structure information representation method supports various types of structure retrievals. Our dynamic index structure processes various structural queries efficiently. We show through various experiments that our method outperforms existing ones in processing various types of queries such as content based queries, structural queries and hybrid queries.

This paper presents a seismic analysis technique for a 3D soil-structure interaction system in a frequency domain, based on the finite element formulation incorporating frequency-dependent infinite elements for the far field soil region. Earthquake input motions are regarded as traveling P, SV and SH waves which are incident vertically from the far-field soil region, and then equivalent earthquake forces are calculated using impedances of infinite soil by dynamic infinite elements and traction and displacement from free field response analysis. For verification and application, seismic response analyses are carried out for a multi-layered soil medium without structure and a typical nuclear power plant in consideration of soil-structure interaction. The results are compared with the free field response using a one-dimensional analytic solution, and a dynamic response of an example structure from another SSI package.

In this paper, the ASCE 7 equivalent static approach for seismic design of non-structural elements is critically evaluated based on the measured floor acceleration data, theory of structural dynamics, and linear/nonlinear dynamic analysis of three-dimensional building models. The analysis of this study on the up-to-date database of the instrumented buildings in California clearly reveals that the measured database does not well corroborate the magnitude and the profile of the floor acceleration as proposed by ASCE 7. The basic flaws in the equivalent static approach are illustrated using elementary structural dynamics. Based on the linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses of three-dimensional case study buildings, it is shown that the magnitude and distribution of the PFA (peak floor acceleration) can significantly be affected by the supporting structural characteristics such as fundamental period, higher modes, structural nonlinearity, and torsional irregularity. In general, the equivalent static approach yields more conservative acceleration demand as building period becomes longer, and the PFA distribution in long-period buildings tend to become constant along the building height due to the higher mode effect. Structural nonlinearity was generally shown to reduce floor acceleration because of its period-lengthening effect. Torsional floor amplification as high as 250% was observed in the building model of significant torsional irregularity, indicating the need for inclusion of the torsional amplification to the equivalent static approach when building torsion is severe. All these results lead to the conclusion that, if permitted, dynamic methods which can account for supporting structural characteristics, should be preferred for rational seismic design of non-structural elements.

In this paper, dynamic behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) by experimental method is discussed. Because of its improved ability to dissipate energy, impact resistance and fatigue behavior, SFRC has a better dynamic behavior than that of plain concrete. Dynamic behavior is influenced by longitudinal reinforcement ratio, volume and type of steel fiber, strength of concrete and the stress level. Impact resistance and damping in the SFRC has been evaluated from dynamic experimental test data at various levels of cracked states in the elements

In the feed drive systems or the spindle systems of machine tools that consist of many mechanical components, a torsional vibration is often generated because of its elastic elements in torque transmission-Generally, the accuracy of motion control system is strongly influenced by the dynamic behavior of coupled transmission components Especially, a torsional vibration caused by the elasticity of mechanical elements might deteriorate the quick movement of system and lead to shorten the life time of the mechanical transmission elements. So, it is necessary to analyze the electromechanical system mathematically to optimize the dynamic characteristics of the feed m1d spindle system. In this paper, based on the DC motor model, a model of electro-drive system with motor has been developed and an optimal criterion for tuning the gain of speed controller is discussed. The frequency bandwidth of the system and the damping ratio in time domain are optimal design specifications for the gain adjustment speed controller. The gains of PI speed controller are then derived from the bandwidth and damping ratio, and those relationships have been classified.
