  • In this paper, we propose an efficient dynamic background modelling method by using eigenbackground to extract moving objects from video stream. Even if a background model has been created, the model has to be updated to adapt to change due to several reasons such as weather or lighting. In this paper, we update a background model based on R-SVD method. At this time we define a change ratio of images and update the model dynamically according this value. Also eigenbackground need to be modelled by using sufficient training images for accurate models but we reorganize input images to reduce the number of images for training models. Through simulation, we show that the proposed method improves the performance against traditional eigenbackground method without background updating and a previous method.

  • Giusti-Suzor and Fano introduced translations of the scales of Lu-Fano plots by phase renormalization in order to decouple the intra- and inter-channel couplings in multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT). Their theory was further developed by others to deal with systems involving a larger number of channels. In different directions, MQDT was reformulated into forms with a one-to-one correspondence to those in Fano's configuration mixing theory of resonance for photofragmentation processes involving one closed and many open channels. In this study, the theory was further developed to fully reveal the coupling nature, decoupling of the background and resonance scattering in physical scattering matrices as well as to further extract the dynamic parameters undiscovered by Fano and his colleagues. This theory was applied to the photoabsorption spectrum of $H_2$ observed by Herzberg's group.

  • Human action tracking plays an important place in human-computer-interaction, human action tracking is a challenging task because of the exponentially increased computational complexity in terms of the degrees of freedom of the object and the severe image ambiguities incurred by frequent self-occlusions. In this paper, we will propose a novel method to track human action, in our technique, a dynamic background estimation algorithm will be applied firstly. Based on the estimated background, we then extract the human object from the video sequence, and the skeletonization method and Hough transform method will be used to detect the main structure of human body and each part rotation angle. The calculated rotation angles will be used to control a crane in the port, thus we can just control the container crane by using signalman body. And the experimental results can show that our proposed method can get a preferable result than the conventional methods such as: MIT, JPF or MFMC.

  • The paper concerns with the visual illusion strength for the static and dynamic figures which are generated on computer CRT. The Vertical-Horizontal, Ponzo, and Muller-Lyer illusion are studied under various conditions of type, size, and background angle of figure. And the results are obtained through the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). This paper concludes that the size and background angle of figure generally effect on the visual illusion, and there is a significant difference between figure types. These results can be applied to eliminate the visual illusion in real design.

  • In order to apply the leak before break (LBB) concept to nuclear piping systems, the dynamic strain aging effect of low carbon steel materials has to be taken into account, in compliance with the requirements of the Korean Standard Review Guide (KSRG) 3.6.3-1. For this goal, J-R tests are needed for a range of various temperatures and loading rates, including dynamic loading conditions. In the dynamic loading J-R test, the unloading compliance method can not be applied to measure the crack growth and direct current potential drop (DCPD) method; this method also has a problem defining the crack initiation point. The normalization method is known as a very useful method to determine the J-R curve under dynamic loading because it does not need additional equipment or complicated loading sequences such as electric current or unloading. This method was accepted by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as a standard test method E1820 A15 in 2001. However, it has not yet been clearly verified yet if the normalization method is sufficiently reliable to be applied to LBB. In this study, the basic background of the J-integral, LBB and dynamic loading J-R test are explained, and the current status for dynamic loading J-R test methods are reviewed from the view point of LBB for nuclear piping. In particular, the theoretical and historical background of the normalization method which has received attention recently, is summarized. Recent studies for this method are introduced and future works are suggested that may improve the reliability of LBB for nuclear piping.

  • Background subtraction is mainly used for the real-time extraction and tracking of moving objects from image sequences. In the outdoor environment, there are many changeable factor such as gradually changing illumination, swaying trees and suddenly moving objects, which are to be considered for the adaptive processing. Normally, GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) is used to subtract the background adaptively considering the various changes in the scenes, and the adaptive GMMs improving the real-time performance were worked. This paper, for on-line background subtraction, applied the improved adaptive GMM, which uses the small constant for learning rate ${\alpha}$ and is not able to speedily adapt the suddenly movement of objects, So, this paper proposed and evaluated the dynamic control method of ${\alpha}$ using the adaptive selection of the number of component distributions and the global variances of pixel values.

  • In this paper, we propose a panorama-based object tracking scheme for wide-view surveillance systems that can detect and track moving objects with a pan-tilt camera. A dynamic mosaic of the background is progressively integrated in a single image using the camera motion information. For the camera motion estimation, we calculate affine motion parameters for each frame sequentially with respect to its previous frame. The camera motion is robustly estimated on the background by discriminating between background and foreground regions. The modified block-based motion estimation is used to separate the background region. Each moving object is segmented by image subtraction from the mosaic background. The proposed tracking system has demonstrated good performance for several test video sequences.

  • Wind induced dynamic responses on hyperbolic cooling tower (HCT) shells are complicated functions of structure and wind properties, such as the fundamental frequency fmin, damping ratio ζ, wind velocity V, correlationship in meridian direction and so on, but comprehensions on the sensitivities of the dynamic responses to these four factors are still limited and disagree from each other. Following the dynamic calculation in time domain, features of dynamic effects were elaborated, focusing on the background and resonant components σB and σR, and their contributions to the total rms value σT. The σR is always less than σB when only the maximum σT along latitude is concerned and the contribution of σR to σT varies with responses and locations, but the σR couldn't be neglected for structural design. Then, parameters of the above four factors were artificially adjusted respectively and their influences on the gust responses were illustrated. The relationships of σR and the former three factors were expressed by fitted equations which shows certain differences from the existing equations. Moreover, a new strategy for wind tunnel tests aiming at surface pressures and the following dynamic calculations, which demands less experiment equipment, was proposed according to the influence from meridian correlationship.
