In dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugation applied into optical transmission links with multi fiber spans for minimizing the impact of nonlinearity and group velocity (GVD), implementation possibility of DM using only one fiber span for pre- or postcompensation was assessed as a function of duty cycle of RZ pulse and residual dispersion per span (RDPS). It is confirmed that DM with optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) controlled by only one fiber span could be sufficiently applied into optical transmission links, though optimal NRD is more increased than that in transmission links with the general DM scheme of pre- and postcompensation. Thus, it is expected that optical transmission system is simply designed and implemented by applying the proposed DM scheme into real optical transmission links. Also, it is confirmed that the advantageous duty cycle of RZ is 0.5 and RDPS is setting to be small value for the effective transmitting wide signal wavelength range in optical links with optimal NRD controlled by only one fiber span.
Due to the inherent feedforward of load current, capacitor current (CC) control shows a fast transient response that makes it suitable for the power supplies used in various portable electronic devices. However, considering the effect of the outer voltage loop, the stable range of the duty-cycle is significantly diminished in CC controlled buck converters. To investigate the stability effect of the outer voltage loop on buck converters, a CC controlled buck converter with a proportion-integral (PI) compensator is taken as an example, and its second-order discrete-time model is established. Based on this model, the instability caused by the duty-cycle is discussed with consideration of the outer voltage loop. Then the dynamical effects of the feedback gain of the PI compensator and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the output capacitor on the CC controlled buck converter with a PI compensator are studied. Furthermore, the design-oriented closed-loop stability criterion is derived. Finally, PSIM simulations and experimental results are supplied to verify the theoretical analyses.
This paper proposes a methodological scheme for the photovoltaic (PV) simulator design. With the advantages of a digital controller system, linear interpolation is proposed for precise fitting with higher computational efficiency. A novel control strategy that directly tackles two different duty cycles is proposed and implemented to achieve a full-range operation including short circuit (SC) and open circuit (OC) conditions. Systematic design procedures for both hardware and algorithm are explained, and a prototype is built. Experimental results confirm an accurate steady state performance under different load conditions, including SC and OC. This low power apparatus can be adopted for PV education and research with a limited budget.
The effects of pH, types of applied current, agitation method and time, additive on the amount of co-deposited $TiO_2$ particles in the matrix were investigated. The deposition rates increased with increasing pH values, while the volume fraction of $TiO_2$ particles and the size of agglomerated $TiO_2$ particles in the composite decreased. The volume fraction of $TiO_2$ particles in the composite decreased when pulsed current of 50% duty cycle was used. And the size of agglomerated $TiO_2$ particles in the nickel matrix of pulsed current was smaller than that of DC current specimen. The volume fraction of $TiO_2$ particles in the matrix decreased with longer time by air agitation, but in case of using magnetic bar, volume fraction in the same range of time was relatively constant. The volume fraction of the electrodeposited Ni-$TiO_2$ composite in the solution containing 0.01 M Dimethylamine borane (DMAB) increased slightly with increasing agitation time regardless of agitation methods. Thermal stability of the electrodeposited Ni-$TiO_2$ composite increased with lower pH at the temperature range of $200{\sim}800^{\circ}C$, and the results showed that the amount of co-deposited $TiO_2$ relies more on the deposition rate than zetapotential of $TiO_2$ particles.
Phenomenological models for direct injection diesel engine emissions including NO, soot, and HC were implemented into a full engine cycle simulation and validated with experimental data obtained from representative heavy-duty DI diesel engines. The cycle simulation developed earlier by Jung and Assanis (2001) features a quasi-dimensional, multi-zone, spray combustion model to account for transient spray evolution, fuel-air mixing, ignition and combustion. In this study, additional models for HC emissions were newly implemented and the models for NO, soot, and HC emissions were validated against experimental data. It is shown that the models can predict the emissions with reasonable accuracy. However, additional effort may be required to enhance the fidelity of models across a wide range of operating conditions and engine types.
In this paper, a new hybrid DC-DC converter is proposed for electric vehicle 3.3 kW on-board battery charger applications, which can be modulated in a phase-shift manner under a fixed frequency or frequency variation. By integrating a half-bridge (HB) LLC series resonant converter (SRC) into the conventional phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) converter with a full-bridge rectifier, the proposed converter has many advantages such as a full soft-switching range without duty-cycle loss, zero-current-switching operation of the rectifier diodes, minimized circulating current, reduced filter inductor size, and better utilization of transformers than other hybrid dc-dc converters. The feasibility of the proposed converter has been verified by experimental results under an output voltage range of 250-420V dc at 3.3 kW.
In this paper, a simple power control scheme of Class-D inverter, which is varied duty cycle of fixed frequency to desired output power. It is more suitable and acceptable for high-frequency induction heating (IH) jar applications. The proposed control scheme has the advantages of not only wide power regulation range but also ease to control output power. Also it can achieve the stable and efficient Zero-Voltage-Switching (ZVS) in whole load range. The control principles of proposed method are described in detail and its validity is verified trough simulations results on 38.5kHz IGBT for induction heating rated on 1.6kW with constant frequency variable power.
