This study was performed to evaluate the freezing and thawing properties of the high strength concrete using recycled coarse aggregate. The recycled coarse aggregate replaced natural crushed aggregate by 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The compressive strength of the concrete using recycled coarse aggregate showed more than 300 kgf/$cm^2$ at the curing age 28 days. The mass loss ratio by freezing and thawing was less than 1% at all mix type. The relative dynamic modulus of elasticity was decreased with increasing the freezing and thawing cycles. Also, the durability factor by the freezing and thawing was decreased with increasing the content of recycled coarse aggregate. But, the recycled concrete except 100% recycled coarse aggregate showed 60 or more durability factor in the freezing and thawing 300 cycles. Accordingly, these recycled coarse aggregate can be used for high strength concrete.

In general, the deterioration induced by the freezing and thawing cyclic in concrete structures often leads to the reduction in concrete durability by the cracking or surface spalling. If it can prediction of concrete deterioration subjected to cyclic freezing and thawing, we can rationally do the design of mix proportion in view of concrete durability and the maintenance management of concrete structures. Therefore in this study a prediction method of deterioration for concrete structures subjected to the irregular freezing and thawing is proposed from the results of accelerated laboratory freezing and thawing test using the constant temperature condition and the in-situ weathering data. Furthermore, to accurately predict the concrete deterioration, a method of modification for the effect of hydration increasing during rapid freezing and thawing test is investigated.

Concrete with ground granulated blast-furnace slag can be affected by frost attack because the reaction of hydration is slow at the early age. In this study, therefore, the freezing and thawing test has been carried out to investigate the freezing and thawing resistance on concrete with ground granulated blast-furnace slag. The freezing and thawing test has been performed on concrete a blended cement, which was substituted by ground granulated blast-furnace slag with 4 kinds of ratio (non-admixture, 20%, 40% and 60%). And also tested on concrete added the AE agents to the concrete of same mix proportion to search the improvement effects about the resistance. As a result, the freezing and thawing resistance showed a tendency of reduction in proportion to the increase of the substitution ratio. For non-AE concrete, resistances of the freezing and thawing were very poor as the durability index indicated less than 5.8%. For AE concrte, resistance of the freezing and thawing were excellent as the durability index indicated more than 80.9%.

FRP composites which are used in strengthening existing structure are usually adhered to the concrete surface, their performance are directly affected by environmental condition such as freezing-thawing and moisture. Accordingly, it is required to evaluate bond durability between FRP composite and concrete as well as FRP materials itself. The durability characteristics of FRP composite for freezing-thawing are evaluated in this study with the variables of concrete strength, type of FRP composite, freezing-thawing conditions and freezing-thawing cycle. In addition, material durability of GFRP sheet for high temperature/high humidity condition are examined in this experimental study.

Concrete structures are commonly exposed to freezing-thawing condition. This freezing-thawing action changes the pore structure of concrete, and it can reduce the durability of concrete. In this study, the change of the internal pore structure and durability of concrete due to freezing-thawing action are investigated. According to results, the excellent durability records were reported by the existing evaluation methods for all mixes. However, the pores, 50~100nm size in diameter, are increased in concrete specimens exposed to freezing-thawing action, and the chloride penetration resistance was significantly reduced. The linear relationship between pore structure and chloride penetration resistance was shown in water cured concrete. Meanwhile, the linear relationship was decreased when concrete is exposed to freezing-thawing condition. It is desirable to review the criterion of durability evaluation for concrete specimens exposed to freezing-fthawing and chloride attack condition, simultaneously.
The tailings piled in abandoned mines are well-known potential sources of soil contamination. Hydrated limes were applied as cementing materials to solidify heavy metal contaminated tailings for the purpose of reducing their toxicity and migration rates. The optimum mixing ratio of tailings, hydrated lime, and water was determined through a preliminary test. The mixtures of mine tailings and hydrated lime solidified through pozzolanic reaction were tested for their durability against repeated freezing and thawing processes. After repeated freezing and thawing, the uniaxial compressive strengths of all the solidified mixture specimens decreased in comparison with those before test but still higher than $3.5kgf/cm^2$, the standard recommended for land reclamation solids by EPA(Environmental Protection Agency), which suggested that hydrated lime be a potential material to treat the abandoned mine tailings for the environmental purpose.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate freezing-thawing and surface scaling resistance in order to examine the frost durability of concrete in a chloride-inherent environment. The mixing design for this study is as follows: 3 water binder ratios of 0.37, 0.42, and 0.47; 2-ingredient type concrete (50% OPC concrete and 50% ground granulated blast-furnace slag), and 3-ingredient type concrete (50% OPC concrete, 15% fly ash, and 35% ground granulated blast-furnace slag). As found in this study, the decrease of durability was much more noticeable in combined deterioration through both salt damage and frost damage than in a single deterioration through either ofthese; when using blast-furnace slag in freezing-thawing seawater, the frost durability and surface deterioration resistance was evaluated as higher than when using OPC concrete. BF 50% concrete, especially, rather than BFS35%+FA15%, had a notable effect on resistance to chloride penetration and freezing/expansion. It has been confirmed that surface deterioration can be evaluated through a quantitative analysis of scaling, calculated from concrete's underwater weight and surface-dry weight as affected by the freezing-thawing of seawater.

This paper was accomplished for analyzing the reason of the above deterioration happened on the deck of concrete bridge. The bridge was constructed at 660m above the sea level having more freezing and snowing days. Therefore, it is placed on the particular condition sprinkling $CaCl_2$ enough for keeping up with moderate traffic condition. When it is considered to the former condition, the bridge can be assumed to potentialities for combined deterioration with freezing-thawing under sprinkling deicing chemical. Core specimens were gathered from the concrete deck for clearing the reason of the above deterioration exactly, and it is used for various tests for measuring the compressive strength, elastic modulus, content of $Cl^-$, freezing-thawing at the fresh and salt water. As a result of freezing-thawing test, the specimen at the fresh water has over 90$\%$ of durability factor, but another specimen at 1$\%$ of salt water has 0$\%$ of durability factor at 140 cycles of the freezing-thawing. The result means that frost damage is sccelerated at the salt water. Therefore, the deterioration of the concrete deck is estimated to be occured by combined effects of freezing-thawing and chloride ion attack.

This study was performed to evaluate the strength and durability properties of recycled polymer concrete using unsaturated polyester resin and recycled aggregates. Unsaturated polyester resin, natural and recycled aggregates and fly ash were used. The mix proportions were determined to satisfy the requirement for the workability and slump according to aggregate sizes (5-10 and 5-25 mm) and unit binder contents (10% and 12%). Tests for the compressive and flexural strength, freezing and thawing and durability for 20% sulfuric solution were performed. The compressive and flexural strength of recycled polymer concrete were in the range of 85~97 MPa and 17.9~20.8 MPa, respectively. The strengths of recycled polymer concrete using recycled aggregate have similar or slightly decreased compared to polymer concrete using natural aggregate. After 300 cycles of freezing and thawing, weight decrease ratio and durability factor of recycled polymer concrete were in the range of 0.13~1.42% and 94~99, respectively.
