Recently full-duplex communication in wireless networks is enabled by the advancement of self-interference cancellation technology. Full-duplex radio is a promising technology for next-generation wireless local area networks (WLAN) because it can simultaneously transmit and receive signals within the same frequency band. Since legacy medium access control (MAC) protocols are designed based on half-duplex communication, they are not suitable for full-duplex communication. In this paper, we discuss considerations of full-duplex communication and propose a novel full-duplex MAC protocol. We conducted a simulation to measure the throughput of our MAC protocol. Through the simulation results, we can verify that significant throughput gains of the proposed full-duplex MAC protocol, thus comparing the basic full-duplex MAC protocol.

The deployment density of AP increases as well as the density WLAN stations due to increase of WLAN use and the real performance of WLAN is degraded. To improve the performance, there are many PHY/MAC technologies and OFDMA and full duplex are promising technologies among them. In conventional OFDMA WLAN MAC relate works, there are some limitations in terms of channel utilization and collision probability. Thus, it need to research for effective channel allocation protocol. Full duplex can transmit data on the same time and same frequency resource so it can allocate channel more flexible than half duplex. In this paper, we prose the OFDMA FD-MAC(Full Duplex MAC) protocol that it allocates the sub-channels based on the idle channel information for full duplex pair. In addition, it shows the throughput improvement by performance analysis.

The diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) function of a special half-duplex (HD) dynamic decode and forward (DDF) relay protocol with more than two antennas at the source node, two antennas at the relay node, and two antennas at the destination node is derived. This protocol is compared to a HD NAF protocol with the same number of source antennas and a HD DDF relay protocol with two antennas at the source node, more than two antennas at the relay node, and two antennas at the destination node.

In this paper, we analyze the outage probability of full duplex relay (FDR) with decode-and-forward (DF) protocol is derived under fading channels. The fading channel for source-relay link is assumed to be Rician fading to consider the infrastructured fixed relay with line of sight (LOS) propagation, and the other fading channels are assumed to be Rayleigh fading. Based on this analytical result, we provide the criterion that FDR shows a lower outage probability than HDR to consider the interference problem and the resource efficiency improvement by full duplex (FD) operation. The accuracy of the analysis is confirmed throughout the simulation results.

Full-duplex (FD) technologies enable wireless nodes to simultaneously transmit and receive signal using the same frequency-band. The FD modes could improve their physical layer throughputs. However, in the wireless ad hoc networks, the FD communications also produce new interference risks. On the one hand, the interference ranges (IRs) of the nodes are enlarged when they work in the FD mode. On the other hand, for each FD pair, the FD communication may cause the potential hidden terminal problems to appear around the both sides. In this paper, to avoid the interference risks, we first model the IR of each node when it works in the FD mode, and then analyze the conditions to be satisfied among the transmission ranges (TRs), carrier-sensing ranges (CSRs), and IRs of the FD pair. Furthermore, in the media access control (MAC) layer, we propose a specific method and protocol for collision avoidance. Based on the modified Omnet++ simulator, we conduct the simulations to validate and evaluate the proposed FD MAC protocol, showing that it can reduce the collisions effectively. When the hidden terminal problem is serious, compared with the existing typical FD MAC protocol, our protocol can increase the system throughput by 80%~90%.
In this paper, we propose a bidirectional full duplex MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol for underwater acoustic networks. An underwater sensor node can set a back-off timer according to the priority of transmission. When the back-off timer expires, the underwater sensor node acquires a transmission opportunity. If a source node wants to send data to a destination node, it broadcasts RTS (Request-To-Send) including ID of the destination node to neighbor nodes. The destination node receiving RTS sends CTS (Clear-To-Send) to the source node to inform the bidirectional full duplex communication. After the source node receives CTS, the source node and the destination node can send the data to each other. In the underwater environment, the existing MAC protocol may take a lot of time for successful transmission of data due to long underwater propagation delay. On the other hand, the proposed bidirectional full duplex MAC protocol improves the throughput by shortening the time for successful transmission of data. In this paper, we analyze the throughput of the proposed bidirectional full duplex MAC protocol. In addition, we show that the proposed bidirectional full duplex MAC protocol has better performance in the presence of the long underwater propagation delay compared with existing MAC protocols for underwater environments.

In this paper, we propose a practical time-division half-duplex Estimate and Forward (EF) relaying protocol. The conventional EF relaying protocol works well only when the relay node is near the destination node. The proposed EF relaying protocol, however, determines adaptively relay parameters such as the quantization level of relay node and the power allocation between source and relay nodes according to the channel conditions. By doing so, the proposed EF relaying protocol provides low probability of bit error even when the relay node is far from the destination node. Consequently, the proposed EF protocol is suitable for the mobile relay systems. It is shown by simulations that the proposed EF relaying protocol shows lower bit error rate for all relay positions than a conventional EF protocol.
Cryptographic protocol design in a two-party setting has of tel ignored the possibility of simultaneous message transmission by each of the two parties (i.e., using a duplex channel). In particular, most protocols for two-party key exchange have been designed assuming that parties alternate sending their messages (i.e., assuming a bidirectional half-duplex channel). However, by taking advantage of the communication characteristics of the network it may be possible to design protocols with improved latency. This is the focus of the present work. We present three provably-secure protocols for two-party authenticated key exchange (AKE) which require only a single round. Our first, most efficient protocol provides key independence but not forward secrecy. Our second scheme additionally provides forward secrecy but requires some additional computation. Security of these two protocols is analyzed in the random oracle model. Our final protocol provides the same strong security guarantees as our second protocol, but is proven secure in the standard model. This scheme is only slightly less efficient (from a computational perspective) than the previous ones. Our work provides the first provably- secure one-round protocols for two-party AKE which achieve forward secrecy.

Currently the functionality of the PRC-999K radio that is widely used in Korean Army is half-duplex and the broadcasting system that all subscribers have to listen when one subscriber speaks in time. Radio data communication system configures peer-to-peer network between command post and network members in military fire control system. And the system applies CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) technique to avoid data collision. Such a data transmitting/receiving time could be reduced by allocating address in serial order to each network members. By doing that, command post need to broadcast data only one time and assigned members will reply in order without data collision. This paper provides such a protocol and algorithm.

In this letter, massive MIMO and full-duplex communication are considered together for high efficiency next generation WLAN systems. The proposed scheme allocates different carrier sensing thresholds by applying the joint spatial division and reuse (JSDR) scheme and is able to enhance the efficiency of MU-MIMO protocols by reducing the protocol overhead. Finally, full-duplex communication is applied to improve the spectral efficiency of WLAN systems.
