  • The purpose of this paper was to address the methodology of the air flow measurement using duct mach number that was considered area-weighed average obtained by total pressure and temperature measured at engine inlet duct. Without installing boundary rake, the prediction of air flow measurement was discussed. Actual air flow measurement and pressure value using pressure loss through inlet seal were described to improve the reliability and operability of altitude engine test facility.

  • The salivary duct cyst is a rare disease and usually found in the parotid gland. A 55-years-old man presented swelling in the left buccal area and pathological diagnosis was a salivary duct cyst. Though its recurrence has been reported rare, the presented case showed recurrent swelling after enucleation. The recurrent lesion was successfully treated by incision and drain insertion.

  • Anti-Roll Tanks, also called Sloshing Tanks, is a rather common and sometimes an efficient method of limiting the roll angles. The important parameters, when considering using anti-roll tanks, are positioning, size, duct area, flow control device etc. Measurement by the PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) was conducted to investigate the flow characteristics around control damper and inlet area of duct for three kind of inclined angle $(\alpha=0^*,\;10^*\;and\;20^*)$. Flow behaviors such as instantaneous and time-mean velocity vectors are investigated. Furthermore, to reveal boundaries between flowing and stagnant zones and to extract velocity profiles at any selected sections of the lower duct for passive anti-rolling tanks system.

A Study on the Fundamental Cause of Stall Stagnation Phenomena in Surges in Compressor Systems

  • Although the stall stagnation phenomena have often been experienced in site and also analytically in numerical experiments in surges in systems of compressors and flow paths, the fundamental causes have not been identified yet. In order to clarify the situations, behaviours of infinitesimal disturbance waves superposed on a main flow were studied in a simplified one-dimensional flow model. A ratio of the amplifying rate of the system instability to the characteristic slope of the compressor element was surveyed as the instability enhancement factor. Numerical calculations have shown the following tendency of the factor. In the situation where both the sectional area ratio and the length ratio of the delivery flow-path to the suction duct are sufficiently large, the enhancement factors are greater in magnitude, which means occurrence of ordinary deep surges. However, in the situation where the area ratio and/or the length ratio is relatively smaller, the enhancement factor tends to lessen significantly, which situation tends to suppress deep surges for the same value of the characteristic slope. It could result in the stall stagnation condition. In the domain of area ratio vs. length ratio of the delivery duct to the suction duct, contour-lines of the enhancement factor behave qualitatively similar to those of the stall stagnation boundaries of a fan analytically obtained, suggesting that a certain range of the enhancement factor values could specify the stagnation occurrence. The significant decreases in the factors are observed to accompany appearances of phase lags and travelling waves in the wave motions, which macroscopically suggests breaking down of the complete surge actions of filling and emptying of the air in the delivery duct. The strength of the action is deeply related with acoustic interferences and is evaluated in terms of the volume-modified reduced resonance frequency proposed by the author. These observations have shown the fundamental cause and the sequence of the stall stagnation in principle.

Design Study of Engine Inlet Duct for Measurement Improvement of the Flow Properties on AIP (AIP면 유동측정 정확도 향상을 위한 가스터빈엔진 입구덕트 설계 연구)

  • In this study, gas turbine engine inlet duct was designed to satisfy uniform flow at aerodynamic interface plane (AIP). Haack-series was selected as nose cone profile and duct outer radius($r_o$) was designed to satisfy to match with area change rate between the nose cone and outer duct wall by the 1-D sizing. The design object of the inlet duct wall profile which has the gradual area change rate was uniform Mach number in the core flow region and minimum boundary later thickness at the both inner nose wall and outer duct wall. The flow characteristics inside the inlet duct was evaluated using CFD. The static pressure distribution at the AIP showed uniform pattern within 0.16%. Based on Mach number profile, the boundary layer thickness was 2% of channel height. Kiel temperature rake location was decided less than 100 mm in front of nose cone where the Mach number is less than 0.1 in order to maximize the temperature probe recovery rate.

Detailed Measurement of Heat/Mass Transfer in a Rotating Two-Pass Duct (II) - Effects of Duct Aspect Ratio - (이차 냉각 유로를 가진 회전덕트에서 열/물질전달 특성 (II) - 덕트 종횡비에 따른 영향 -)

  • Measurements of local heat/mass transfer coefficients in rotating two-pass ducts are presented. Ducts of three different aspect ratios (W/H), 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0, are employed with a fixed hydraulic diameter ($D_h$) of 26.7 nm. $90^{\circ}$-rib turbulators are attached on the leading and trailing walls symmetrically. The rib height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio ($e/D_h$) is 0.056, and the rib pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) is 10. The experimental conditions are the same as those of the previous part of the study. As the rib height-to-duct height ratio (e/H) increases, the core flow is more disturbed and accelerated in the midsections of ribs. Therefore, the obtained data show higher heat/mass transfer in the higher aspect ratio duct. Dean vortices also augment heat/mass transfer in the turn and in the upstream region of the second pass. However, the effect becomes less significant for the higher aspect ratio because the surface area increases in the present geometric condition. The effect of rotation produces heat/mass transfer discrepancy.

CLINICAL STUDY OF DACRYOCYSTORHINOSTOMY IN THE NASOLACRIMAL DUCT OBSTRUCTION PATIENT (누낭비강문합술(Dacryocystorhinostomy)을 이용한 비루관폐쇄 교정술식에 관한 고찰)

  • Epiphora is overflow of tears due to obstruction of lacrimal duct. Dacryocystorhinostomy is the most common procedure to eliminate the epiphora secondary to complete or partial obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct. The procedure is to artificially create passage between lacrimal sac and nasal cavity. Especially, epiphora would be accompany often by nasolacrimal duct obstruction when trauma of oromaxillofacial area lead to nasal fracture, medial wall fracture of orbit. Therefore in this case there are many case to perform dacryocystorhinostomy because probing and tubing is difficult to resolve the epiphora. We performed 4 cases of dacryocystorhinostomy for adult nasolacrimal duct obstruction from May 1991 to October 1991. The results were very satisfactory in all the case. Epipora disappeared in all case.

Pharmacokinetics of Cyclosporine in Rabbits with Carbon Tetrachloride and Bile Duct Ligation-induced Hepatic Disorder (사염화탄소 및 담도폐쇄 유발 간장장애 가토에서 싸이크로스포린의 약물동태)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the pharmacokinetics of cyclosporine (10mg/kg, oral) in rabbits with $CCI_4$ and bile duct ligation-induced hepatic disorder. The area under the curve (AUC) of blood cyclosporine concentration versus time was significantly increased ($CCI_4$-induced hepatic disorder. Elimination rate constant (Kel) was significantly decreased (p<0.05, p<0.01) in rabbits with $CCI_4$ and bile duct ligation-induced hepatic disorder. Volume of distribution (Vdss) and total body clearance (CLtot) were significantly decreased (p<0.01) in rabbits with $CCI_4$-induced hepatic disorder. But Vdss was significantly increased (p4-induced hepatic disorder were 874ng/ml and 2.71 hr, respectively. Cmax and Tmax values in rabbits with bile duct ligation were 105ng/ml and 2.834 hr, respectively. From results of this experiment. It is desirable to do therapeutic drug monitoring of cyclosporine for effective treatment when the cyclosporine is administered to patients with liver disorder m clinical practice.

Analysis of Abnormal Path Loss in Jeju Coastal Area Using Duct Map (덕트맵을 이용한 제주해안지역 이상 전파특성 분석)

  • This study analyzes the propagation of the path losses between Jeju-do and Jin-do transceivers located in the coastal areas of Korea using the Advanced Refractive Prediction System(AREPS) simulation software based on the actual coastal weather database. The simulated data is used to construct a duct map according to the altitude and thickness of the trap. The duct map is then divided into several regions depending on the altitude parameters of Tx and Rx, which can be used to effectively estimate the abnormal wave propagation characteristics due to duct occurrence in the Jeju-do coastal area. To validate the proposed duct map, two representative atmospheric index samples of the weather database in May 2018 are selected, and the simulated path losses using these atmospheric indices are compared with the measured data. The simulated path losses for abnormal conditions at the Rx point at Jeju-do are 167.7 dB and 192.3 dB, respectively, which are in good agreement with the measured data of 164.4 dB and 194.9 dB, respectively.

  • This paper deals with the inverse reconstruction of sectional area in nonuniform ducts by using the acoustical measurement. There have been many theoretical and experimental studies on the duct area reconstruction. In this research, the method using the impulse response function and area reconstruction algorithm was employed because of its mathematical and experimental simplicity. Based on the study results on the drawback of conventional impulse excitation method, a new measurement method is proposed, that uses the random noise source and the discrete inverse Fourier transform. It is found that the reconstruction errors of the present method is smaller than the conventional method. A random error analysis is performed in order to investigate the causes of reconstruction error and to clarify the applicable data range for area reconstruction.
