  • We propose a method for simultaneously measuring the front and back surface profiles of transparent optical components. The proposed method combines dual-wavelength transmission deflectometry with liquids to record distorted phases at different wavelengths, and then numerically reconstructs the three-dimensional phase information to image the front and back surfaces of the lens. We propose a theoretical model to determine the surface information, and a bifocal lens is experimentally investigated. Unlike conventional transmission deflectometry, our proposed method supports direct observation of the front and back surface profiles of the optical elements.

  • This paper presents a method to derive the theoretical requirements for the development of a 400 mm optical window that transmits dual-band wavelengths and had a stable structure. We also present design and fabrication results. Among the required specifications, the surface figure error was defined by the transmitted wavefront deformation (TWD), ${\lambda}$/15 rms at 632.8 nm. This value was derived by estimating the predicted performances with respect to five independent items that could cause system performance degradation and then calculating the required wavefront error (WFE) to satisfy the performance goals. We measured the image resolution at each performance level to trace and verify the requirements. The article also describes a design optimization process that could minimize the weight and volume of the optical window attached to the payload securing the FOV of the camera. In addition, we accurately measured the deformation that occurred in the series of fabrication steps including processing, coating, assembly, bonding and bolting, and investigated the effects by comparing them to the results of a simulation performed in advance to derive the predicted performance.

  • A new organic light emitting device(OLED) with two peak wavelength(blue and yellow) emission was fabricated using the selective doping in a single fluorescent host , and its electrical and optical characteristics were investigated. The fabricated device showed the luminance and efficiency of 1600 $Cd/m^2$ and 2.4 Im/W under the applied voltage of 10V, respectively. And its electroluminescent spectra had two peak wavelengths of 470nm and 560nm emitting bluish white light. The OLED with dual wavelength emission in this experiment is likely to be developed as a white OLED with simpler fluorescent system than conventional devices.

  • We built an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) generating orthogonally polarized signals at different wavelengths simultaneously, based on a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) crystal. The OPO was pumped by ns-pulses at 1.064 ㎛ from a diode-pumped solid-state laser, where we found the type-0 and the type-1 quasi-phase matching conditions were satisfied simultaneously in the PPLN crystal. This enabled us to create a coherent light source which can emit dual signals which could be accessed easily by rotating a polarizer.

  • The Submillimeter Array (SMA) has provided forefront capabilities for high spatial and spectral resolution observations at submillimeter wavelengths from its excellent site on Mauna Kea, Hawaii since 2004. The SMA has continuously enhanced its capability. It is now equipped with two receivers in the 1.3 mm band (Rx230/Rx240) and two in the 0.85 mm band (Rx345/Rx400). The total bandwidth available is 8+8 GHz (per receiver) in the dual band or polarization mode. To maintain a leading role in the ALMA era, the SMA project is now upgrading its receivers, IF signal transport and correlator system. The new wideband SMA - the wSMA - will provide the instantaneous coverage of 56 GHz. In this presentation, I will introduce the latest status of the SMA, upgrade plan to the w-SMA, the possible science cases with the w-SMA, and the roles of the w-SMA in the ALMA era.

  • The wavelength demultiplexer is an essential component in optical transmission systems using wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM), which can increase the number of channels and information capacity of optical fibers. For optical telecommunication, much attention has been given to demultiplexing two wavelengths in the 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of low dispersion band and 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of low loss window. Various integrated-optical devices have been proposed to perform this function, including conventional directional couplers, asymmetric Y-branching devices, asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers and two-mode interference devices. • The spectral properties of piroxicam in different solvents are similar to those of its skeletal precursor, HMBDC. The maximum absorption and emission wavelengths strongly depend on the hydrogen bonding ability of the solvent, and it is shown that intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the -OH and the ortho carbonyl group of the parent benzothiazine ring plays an important role in the solvent-dependence of their spectroscopic properties. The fluorescence spectra in aprotic nonpolar solvent exhibit abnormally large Stokes-shifted (${\sim}9,000cm^{-1}$) emission bands in contrast to the spectra in water. In ethanol, dual emission bands with two different fractional components of lifetimes have been observed. These results suggest that the abnormally red-shifted emission is attributed to the proton transferred form of an intramolecularly hydrogen-bonded closed conformer.

  • [ $1.06/1.32{\mu}m$ ] dual-wavelength medical laser was developed and preliminary clinical comparisons at these two wavelengths were performed for dental application. We could develop a compact laser system 1) by lasing two wavelengths from the same Nd:YAG rod, and 2) by introducing high-voltage switching power supply modules. Experiment on gingiva of pig jaw showed higher thermal damage at $1.32{\mu}m$. Depending on particular procedures, each wavelength has its own advantages and disadvantages. For cutting, however, using conical tips rather than bare fibers provided better results with low threshold of cutting energy and less surrounding thermal damage. Appling light-absorbing dye on target area appeared to induce more damage during laser irradiation. However, histological studies showed no significant difference whether dye was applied or not.

  • This paper deals with the routing and wavelength assignment problem (RWAP) that decides the best lightpaths for multiple packet demands for (s,t) in optical communication and assigns the minimum number of wavelengths to given lightpaths. There has been unknown of polynomial-time algorithm to obtain the optimal solution for RWAP. Hence, the RWAP is classified as NP-complete problem and one can obtain the approximate solution in polynomial-time. This paper decides the shortest main and alternate lightpath with same hop count for all (s,t) for given network in advance. When the actual demands of communication for particular multiple packet for (s,t), we decrease the maximum utilized edge into b utilized number using these dual-paths. Then, we put these (s,t) into b-wavelength bins without duplicated edge. This algorithm can be get the optimal solution within O(kn) computational complexity. For two experimental data, the proposed algorithm shows that can be obtain the known optimal solution.

  • Seborrheic keratoses (SKs) have been treated with non-ablative longpulsed (LP) lasers, including LP 532-nm neodymium (Nd): yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG), LP 695-nm ruby, LP 755-nm alexandrite (Alex), and LP 1,064-nm Nd:YAG lasers, with a pulse durations of 1-300 msec. Dual-wavelength LP 755-nm Alex/1,064-nm Nd:YAG laser systems have been used to remove hair follicles and treat various vascular and pigmented disorders by sequentially delivering two pulses of different wavelengths with interpulse intervals in the millisecond range. This paper reports the case of a female patient with multiple, discrete, light brown SKs on the dorsum of both hands that were treated effectively with one session of dual-wavelength LP 1,064-nm Nd:YAG/755-nm Alex laser treatment. The treatment settings for the LP Nd:YAG laser were comprised of a wavelength of 1,064 nm, fluence of 50 J/cm2, pulse duration of 5 msec, and beam size of 3 mm. The settings for the LP Alex laser were comprised of a wavelength of 755 nm, fluence of 50 J/cm2, pulse duration of 5 msec, and beam size of 3 mm. A hybrid mode was used to automatically deliver LP Nd:YAG and LP Alex laser pulses in succession at interpulse intervals of 20 msec. Six weeks after treatment, the patient exhibited remarkable improvement of the light brown seborrheic keratoses and was satisfied with the results.
