  • Microstrip reflectarray is an antenna which controls its radiation pattern with a number of reflective elements. Conventionally, the reflectarray has been researched to replace curved reflector antennas. In this paper, design theories of reflectarray is briefly introduced, and research trends of high gain and broadband reflectarrays are reviewed. To improve the gain of the reflectarrays, it is required that the reflection phase errors on the reflectarray surface be minimized. For this purpose, sufficiently wide reflection phase range and low phase sensitivity should be realized with the designed element. For bandwidth improvement, the reflection phase of the element should be linear with the frequency variation. In this paper, various researches to improve the reflection phase characteristics of the element for high gain and broadband reflectarrays, such as multi-layer and single-layer multi-resonant structures, are reviewed. Also, dual-reflectarray configuration for compact antenna design is reviewed. Finally, various applications of reflectarrays such as contoured beam, near-field focusing, and RCS reduction are reviewed.

  • In this paper, due to the development of 5G communication technology, an antenna capable of covering both LTE and 5G bands is currently needed. In addition, we designed and manufactured a single feed antenna for the integrated public network (LTE) and 5G frequency dual band cover to satisfy the frequency bandwidth of more than 10% in each band. The antenna designed by adopting the dipole of the basic dipole antenna in a planar structure is a form in which the radiating element is vertically extended at all of the 700 MHz antennas and folded into a 'ㄷ' shape. In addition, the radiating element of the 700MHz band serves as a reflector of the 3.5GHz band radiating element. As a result, the 700 MHz band -10 dB bandwidth 104 MHz(14.8%) and 3.5 GHz band -10 dB bandwidth 660 MHz(18.8%) were obtained and the radiation pattern characteristic resulted in gains of 8.46 dBi, beam width E-plane 55°, H-plane 81° and 3.5 GHz bands 6.14 dBi, beamwidth E-plane 79°, H-Plane 49°.

  • In this paper we design and fabricate the Skeleton slot antenna which operates dually in GSM 900 and 1800 bands. Its simulation results are also compared with the measured ones. The original Skeleton slot antennas had the problems of unsatisfactory VSWR characteristics and considerably changing horizontal radiation patterns at high frequencies, but the proposed design improves these problems using multi-path feeding network and folding structure. The size of the radiator is 154 $\times$ 106(mm), and its height is 33(mm), and the reflector of 190$\times$190(mm) is used. The material of the radiator and reflector is 1mm-thick aluminum. Using NTC process reduces the mass production cost significantly. The measured return losses are 13.7 % at 900 MHz band and 16.4 % at 1800 MHz band, respectively. The horizontal radiation beam width is stable within $\pm$ 1$^{\circ}$ at both frequency bands.

  • In this paper, we have designed the transmitter for earth station terminal operating with military geostationary satellite on Ka-band that is complied with MIL-STD-188-164A. The designed antenna of this terminal is dual-offset gregorian reflector which is consist of corrugated horn and iris polarizer, othermode transducer. This antenna meets radiation pattern and transmit EIRP spectral density requirements in this standard. The designed RF systems of this terminal are consist of Block Up Converter(BUC) converting frequency band from IF to Ka band and SSPA having low-power consumption and compact light-weight using the pHEMT MMIC compound devices. This RF systems applied with VSWR, spurious/harmonic suppression, output flatness and phase noise requirement in this standard.
