  • A coupler is a microwave passive component used for power coupling or dividing. Regarding the trend of current telecommunication systems it is highly desirable for monolithic integration of passive components as such LTCC(Low temperature cofired ceramics) technology offers potential advantage in size, cost and performance. Utilizing LTCC technology a 2012 size type dual band coupler for DCS and EGSM band was fabricated. Its characteristics such as coupling, insertion loss, isolation and directivity was measured and compared with simulation results

  • This paper proposes a dual band branch line coupler (BLC) using a composite right/left handed (CRLH) transmission line. The existing dual band BLCs with open stubs require hundreds of line impedance for the open stub as the frequency bands approach to each other, so it has been almost impossible to realize them. However in the proposed BLC, a CRLH transmission line replaces the open stub with an extremely high line impedance so that the BLC circuit may be realized even two frequencies are close to each other. As an example, a dual band BLC operating at 1800MHz and 2300MHz (the frequency ratio is 1:1.28) is designed and measured. Open stubs with $560\Omega$ line impedance are replaced by CRLH transmission lines for realizing the dual band BLC. The measured performances prove that the dual band operation is well acceptable and the proposed design method is successful even the ratio between two frequencies is not around two nor more.

  • This paper describes a design of dual band balanced amplifier using a lefted handed meta-material transmission line structure for high frequency application. Meta-material transmission lines have been known to have dual band frequency responses. A dual band branch line hybrid coupler is designed using the meta-material transmission lines, and measured at first. Two identical dual band amplifiers are also designed, built and tested using the same meta-material transmission structure. The proposed dual band balanced amplifier is composed of those dual band branch line hybrid coupler and amplifiers. In order to suggest an design example, a prototype of dual band balanced amplifier is built and measured at the dual frequencies, 1800MHz($f_1$) and 2300MHz($f_2$). The simulation and measurement show that the fabricated balanced amplifier operates well at the desired dual frequencies bands with the gain of 11.12dB and 17.67dB at $f_1$ and $f_2$, respectively, with a good agreement with the simulation results.

  • In this paper, a novel design and implementation of a dual-band directional coupler based on RF IPD(Integrated Passive Device)-on-glass technology is proposed, which can be adopted in GSM/GPRS cellular phones for closed loop power control at the output of the power amplifier. The proposed coupler has a compensation capacitor to improve the directivity, and was designed using a new diplexing structure to minimize the cross-band isolation.

  • This letter presents a shorted-stub tapped branch-line coupler for dual-band applications. In the new design, a shorted stub is used to realize 90 phase change at two frequencies. Closed-form design equations are derived to find the characteristic impedance and electrical length of the proposed branch lines using the ABCD-matrix. To verify the design concept, a microstrip coupler operating at 0.8 and 1.85 GHz is fabricated and measured.

  • A coupler or divider is a microwave passive component used for power coupling or dividing. Regarding the trend of current telecommunication systems monolithic integration of passive components is highly desirable. In this study by the LTCC(Low temperature co-fired ceramics) technology a 2012 size type dual band coupler with multi-layer structure was fabricated. To achieve the desired coupling values for both DCS and EGSM bands, broad side coupled patterns were used with multi-layer structure. Its characteristics such as coupling, insertion loss, isolation and directivity values were measured and compared with simulation results.

  • This paper presents the design of a dual band branch line hybrid coupler(BLHC) with different power division ratios at two bands. In the proposed design, transmission lines of the BLHC are transformed to $\pi$-type equivalent circuits which represent different impedances and $\lambda/4$ electrical length at two frequency bands. In order to verify the proposed method, a dual band coupler with different power division ratios is designed for 0.9 GHz and 2 GHz applications. The desired power division ratios are 1:1 and 1:3 at the two operating frequency bands. The measured results show excellent performance with an insertion loss of less than 0.33 dB, a return loss of less than -18.07 dB, and good isolation characteristics.

  • In this paper, the unequal power divider based on CRLH (Composite Right/Left-Handed) transmission line with dual-band characteristic is proposed. They consist of dual-band branch line hybrid coupler, the connection between input and isolation port of hybrid coupler and ${\lambda}/4$ impedance transformer. When the transmission line between input and isolation port of hybrid coupler is asymmetrical connected, the divider is obtained the output results of the equal phase and unequal power dividing ratio. The simulation results of the divider represent the power ratio of 0 dB ~ 20 dB. To validate a function of divider, the hybrid coupler and transformer with 880 MHz and 1850 MHz is implemented. As a result, the proposed unequal divider obtains the power ratio of 3.2 dB ~ 8.8 dB at 880 MHz and 2.5 dB ~ 14.0 dB at 1850 MHz.

  • It is widely known that the ultra high frequency (UHF) method that detects the electromagnetic wave of the PD pulses in the gas insulated space is one of the most competitive methods for its high sensitivity. From the above point of view, this paper describes the characteristics of GIS PD signals measured with ultra wide band (UWB) GIS PD detecting system in which PD signals are detected into the dual UHF band. The UWB PD detection system consists of the UWB UHF coupler, the UWB low noise amplifier (LNA) and the oscilloscope. The dual bands for PD signals are 0.5-2GHz(full band) and 1-2GHz(high band). As results, it was found that the partial discharges of each defect have their own characteristic pattern and the ratio of High band to Full band increases with gas pressure.
