This survey was conducted to know the post-harvest bulk treatment system for barley, The tendency of barley-bulk treatment in 4 RPC was gradually increased up to 4,458 ton in 2001, but after that time, the amounts was decreased 1,0731on in 2003. There was the big difference on the circulated and the continued systems that was the kinds of drying system they use. The barleys, the harvest and the conveyance method was different on RPCs. Naked barley was only treated, and $90\%$ barley was harvested by the consignment in J RPC, otherwise unhulled barley was treated, and there did not used the consignment in S RPC. Small and mulit combine was used to harvest, and the ratio of bulk was up to $90\%$ in J RPC, but small combine was only used and ratio of bulk was at most $5\%$ in S RPC. It was sell by 1kg in polished and 40kg unpolished barley around year in J RPC, but it was sell by bulk to september in S RPC.
This study was performed to evaluate physico-chemical properties and antioxidant activity of pork patties with tomato powder as affected by water solubility. Fresh tomatoes were homogenized and dried in a $60^{\circ}C$ oven. Dried tomato powder was added to double deionized-water and stirred. The soluble and insoluble portions were collected by freeze-drying. Thus, total dried powder (T1) and water soluble (T2) and insoluble powders (T3) were prepared for the experiment. Pork patties containing 0.5% water insoluble powder had the highest redness and yellowness values among the treatments (p<0.05). Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance values of pork patties containing 0.5% dried tomato powder were lower than those of the control (p<0.05) and not different from those of the reference (0.01% BHT). Total bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae (VRB) tended to increase with increasing storage time from 0 to 14 d; however, these values were not statistically different among treatments. These results suggest that lipid oxidation may be suppressed by adding tomato powder to pork patties; thus, tomato powder could be used as a natural antioxidant in meat products as a partial replacement for synthetic antioxidants.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have been reported to interfere with estrogen signaling. Exposure to these chemicals decreases the immune response and causes a wide range of diseases in animals and humans. Recently, many studies showed that licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root extract (LRE) commonly called "gamcho" in Korea exhibits antioxidative, chemoprotective, and detoxifying properties. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action of LRE and to determine if and how LRE can alleviate the toxicity of EDCs. LRE was prepared by vacuum evaporation and freeze-drying after homogenization of licorice root powder that was soaked in 80% ethanol for 72 h. We used 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) as an EDC, which is known to induce tumors or cancers; MCF-7 breast cancer cells were used as a tumorigenic model. These were treated with TCDD and various concentrations of LRE (0, 50, 100, 200, $400{\mu}g/mL$) for 24, 48, and 72 h. As a result, TCDD stimulated MCF-7 cell proliferation, but LRE significantly inhibited TCDD-induced MCF-7 cell proliferation in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Expression of TCDD toxicity-related genes, i.e., aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), AhR nuclear translocator, and cytochrome P450 1A1, were subsequently down-regulated by LRE in a dose-dependent manner. Analysis of cell cycle distribution after treatment of MCF-7 cells with TCDD and various concentrations of LRE showed that LRE inhibited the proliferation of MCF-7 cells via G2/M phase arrest. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analyses also revealed that LRE dose-dependently increased the expression of the tumor suppressor genes p53 and p27 and down-regulated the expression of cell cycle-related genes. These data suggest that LRE can mitigate the tumorigenic effects of TCDD in breast cancer cells by suppression of AhR expression and cell cycle arrest. Thus, LRE can be used as a potential toxicity-alleviating agent against EDC-mediated disease.

Physicochemical characteristics of the red peppers dried in hot-air by various processing to shorten drying time were investigated during storage at -2$0^{\circ}C$ for 120 days. The pH of red pepper powders gradually decreased in proportion to storage day, but there were no significant differences between samples during storage. The pH of red pepper powder treated with 0.1% vitamin C was the lowest as 4.64 at 120 storage days. Capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin contents gradually decreased during storage, but the red pepper powder treated with 0.1% vitamin C was higher than others after 120 storage days. As a result of color evaluation, L values of red pepper powder dried after only mashing and dried after aging next to mashing were higher than the control, whereas a and b values of red pepper powder dried after mashing were higher at 120 storage days, compared with the control. Results of color and taste acceptability showed color value of red pepper powder dried after mashing was 93.0% higher than 43.0% of the control, and in taste acceptability the control was 48.0%, whereas its dried after treatment of 0.1% vitamin C was the highest value as 92.0%.
The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of infection control implemented at dental offices and factors affecting it in an attempt to help promote the health of dental health care workers. The subjects in this study were 180 medical personnels who worked at dental offices in the region of South Jeolla Province. A self-administered survey was conducted from April 1 to May 30, 2008, and the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for the implementation of infection control at the dental offices, what the health care workers investigated did the most was post-treatment hand washing(95.0), a constant separation of infectious wastes(94.4), wearing rubber gloves all the time during medical instrument cleansing(92.8) and pre-treatment hand washing(91.7). 2. In regard to the implementation of infection control at the dental offices, what the dental personnels did the least was drying their hands with air(5.0), wearing goggles in times of treatment(23.3), receiving regular education on infection control(26.7) and putting sterilizers to a performance test on a regular basis(43.9). 3. The dental health care workers were significantly different according to age in the management of contagious diseases(p=0.005). Their career made a significant difference to the management of contagious diseases(p=0.000) and instrument cleansing/sterilization(p=0.043). The service area made a significant difference to wearing and managing personal protective clothes (p=0.040) and waste management(p=0.040). 4. Concerning the relationship between the acquisition of dental hygienist certificate and the practice of infection control, whether the dental health care workers were certified or not made no significant difference to that. 5. As to the correlation among the factors affecting the prevention and management of contagious diseases, there was a positive correlation among hand washing(r=0.379), wearing and managing personal protective clothes(r=0.349), instrument cleansing/sterilization(r=0.323) and waste management(r=0.388). All the factors made a statistically significant difference to the prevention and management of contagious diseases(p<0.01).
Safflower has been cultivated in Korea and thought to have excellent effects on bone in oriental medicine and folk remedy and has been taken for a long time. Safflower is thought to be helpful for the development and sustenance of bones according to the result of recent assay of its components. Otherwise, any reliable experimental data have not been suggested so far. We have carried out this study to examine the prophylactic effects of safflower-seed-powder on the prevention of osteoporosis induced by the ovariectomy 12 Weeks-old Sprague-Dawley rats weighing about 230 g was kept in the experimental condition and used in this study. Animals were taken 0.3 g of safflower-seed-powder once a day for 1, 3, 5, and 7 weeks after ovariectomizing both ovaries and observed the fine structure of tibia. Tissues were fixed with traditional SEM preparation methods and decalcified for 10 hours with 10% nitric acid and dehydration, drying, and gold-coating were followed by the routine procedures and observed with scanning electron microscope (Hitachi, S-450). Loss of bone was started just after ovariectomy and thickness of bone from the medullary cavity to the compact bone was reduced and the extension of medullary cavity was serious in the control group of 7 weeks. Experimental groups taken safflower-seed-powder showed similar findings from 1 week to 7 weeks. These results suggest that the safflower-seed-powder is thought to be efficient for the prevention of osteoporosis owing to the deficiency of female sex hormone.

Inclusion complexes of ketoconazole(KT) with ${\alpha}^_$, ${\beta}^_$cyclodextrin(CD) and $dimethy1-{\beta}-cyclodextrin$ (CD) and $dimethy1-{\beta}-cyclodextrin(DM{\beta}CD)$ as nasal absorption enhancer were prepared in 1: 2 molar ratios by freeze-drying and solvent evaporation methods. In order to compare with the intrinsic absorptivity of KT in the jejunum(J) and the nasal cavity(N), the in situ simultaneous perfusion method was employed. The in situ recirculation study revealed that KT-CD inclusion complexes with the greater stability constant and the faster dissolution rate proportionally increased the absorption of KT in the J and N of rats. The rank order of apparent KT permeability$(P_{app}\;:\;cm/sec\;{\time}\;1O^{-5}{\pm}S.E.)$, corrected by surface area of absorption, was $5.10{\pm}0.3(N,\; KT-DM{\beta}CD)$ )> $4.13{\pm}0.4(N,\;KT-{\beta}-CD)$ )> $3.52{\pm}0.2(N,\;KT-{\alpha}-CD)$ )> $2.76{\pm}0.3(J,\; KT-DM{\beta}CD)$ )> $2.61{\pm}0.5(J,\;KT-{\beta}-CD)$ )> $2.42{\pm}0.4(J,\;KT-{\alpha}-CD)$ at pH 4.0. The in crease in permeability of $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex was 2.6 folds in the J and 4.5 folds in the N when the perfusing solution was changed from the buffer(pH 4.0) to saline. The absorption rate of $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex after nasal administration was more rapid than those of ketoconazole alone and $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex after oral administration to rats. In comparision with an oral administration of ketoconazole suspension in corn oil, the relative bioavailability was calculated 137.3% for the oral and 195.0% for nasal $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex in rats. The present results suggest that $KT-DM{\beta}CD$ inclusion complex may serve as a potential nasal absorption enhancer for the nasal delivery of ketoconazole.
A highly selective, sensitive and reliable ozone sensing $In_2O_3$ thin film was fabricated by a sol-gel method. The fabricated film is operated at a relatively lower temperature than ever developed thin films and saved operating power. $In_2O_3$ films deposited by sol-gel technique has been recently attracted because it is an economical and energy saving method and precisely controlled microstructure. Indium alkoxide precursor was synthesized from the reaction between indium hydroxide and butanol. PVA binder was used to improve adhesion of the films. The $In_2O_3$ thin films were obtained by spin coating from 1 to 5 times followed by drying at $100^{\circ}C$ and calcining at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The film thickness was controlled by the number of coating time. The morphology and the thickness of the $In_2O_3$ films were examined by a SEM and XRD. The $In_2O_3$ thin films show a high sensitive to ozone gas at operating temperature of $250^{\circ}C$. The $In_2O_3$ sensor has very good selectivity to $CH_4$, CO, $C_4H_{10}$ and ethanol.
One of the most important cultural techniques of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke) is to encourage rapid and uniform emergence of seedlings to establish good stand and to let them grow well. Thus the objectives of the study were to investigate the effects of pre-sowing seed soaking and planting depth on dormancy breaking, germination and emergence of the seedlings, and to estimate the optimum planting season of pearl millet in Suwon, Korea. The seeds with dormancy germinated 99 to 100 percent when soaked in the H$_2$O$_2$ 1% solution for 24 hours and rinsed with pure water, but germinated only 38% and 83% when soaked in pure water for 24 hours just after harvest and drying, and one month later from the harvest time, respectively. The seeds of Australia inbred line did not germinate at the constant 10$^{\circ}C$, but germinated at the constant 11$^{\circ}C$. It also was possible to estimate the optimum planting season by applying minimum temperature 11$^{\circ}C$ for germination. The minimum air temperature reached from late April in Suwon, Korea in regular years but fluctuated from late April to early May in 1986 and 1987. Thus, the safe planting season was mid-May for rapid and uniform germination of pearl millet seed. The optimum depth of planting was 2∼4cm under the optimum soil moisture condition, and 4 to 6 cm under the drier soil moisture condition. Subcoleoptile internode(mesocotyle) length increased according to increased depth of planting. Seedling crown placement also became deeper due to deeper planting of the seeds. The subcoleoptile internode length and seedling crown depth were positively correlated with actual planting depth, indicating that deeper planting would be not good for appropriate adventitious root and tiller development.
Variation of chalkiness expression in milled waxy rice with the moisture contents of grains was investigated using instrument and naked eye evaluation methods. To find out any effects of varieties and harvesting times on the chalkiness development, rice grains of seven waxy varieties harvested at early, optimal and late times were tested after being sun-dried to have three different moisture contents of about $13.0{\sim}14.5%$, $14.5{\sim}16.0%$ and above 16.0%. The moisture contents of rice grains were distributed in the ranges of about 13.0% to 17.5% with the drying intensity right after harvesting. Although there were some genetical variations in whiteness and degree of transparency of milled rice grains among varieties at the same condition, chalkiness was most significantly affected by the changes of moisture content in all waxy varieties and harvesting times. At the moisture content less than 13.5%, all varieties exhibited waxy unique chalkiness, and at the moisture ranges between 13.5% and 14.0% the chalkiness was more or less affected by harvesting time and varieties. At the moisture content ranges between 14.0% and 16.0%, chalkiness gradually disappeared as with the increase of moisture content. However the degrees of chalkiness loses were strongly depended on individual kernels by showing as if the number of non-waxy rice kernels would be increasing in waxy rice grains with the moisture content increase. At the moisture content above about 16.0%, all waxy kernels lost their unique chalkiness, and showed non-waxy rice appearance.
