Changes in food preferences and dietary habits of Korean prone to decrease consumption of the traditional energy source, rice. The exceeding condition of rice production in Korea is now not only impacting on the profit structure of farmers but also threatening food security. Although there have been several efforts to increase rice consumption rate, by developing various processed foods using rice flour, grain hardness of rice has been the most significant limiting factor. In this study, we addressed the suitability of the Namil(SA)-flo1, a mutant rice line has floury endosperm, in terms of producing rice flour by using dry-milling method, which is lower cost and more eco-friendly than other available methods such as wet-milling. Rice flour of the Namil(SA)-flo1 exhibited superior physico-chemical characteristics to any other check varieties including the wild type, Namil, in terms of distribution of granule sizes and content of damaged starch.
Crude copper phthalocyanine (Cupc) was synthesized by Wyler process, then grounded using various methods such as acid pasting, kneader, attritor and SC-mill. Particle size, shape and crystalline structure were compared and evaluated after particle size reductions. Cupcs prepared by acid pasting and kneader methods that are excellent manufacturing processes in industry were used as our standards. Particle properties of Cupcs prepared either by attritor or by SC-mill were compared with particle size analyzer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Particle size analyzer and SEM were used to analyze the variation of particle sizes of Cupc with milling time. Particle size was initially decreased up to the 90 min of milling time, thereafter it reversely began to increase in case of SC-mill. Cupc obtained from dry milling with attritor displayed strong cohesion so that particle size was not possible to determine with particle size analyzer. However, the optimum milling time was indirectly approximated from the analysis of XRD peak intensity.

Rice flours from five rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties with different amylose content were prepared by both wet and dry milling processes. The moisture content of wet-milled rice flours (WMR) was approximately three-times higher than that of dry-milled rice flours (DMR). Water absorption index (WAI), water solubility index (WSI), and swelling power (SP) increased in proportion to temperature. The WAI, WSI and SP values of DMR were higher than those of WMR. Baeokchal (BOC), which is a waxy rice cultivar, had a significantly high WSI value. Pasting properties of DMR, except for the BOC cultivar, resulted in an increase in peak, trough, final, and setback viscosities. The levels of resistant starch in four cultivars, except for Dodamssal (DDS), were under 1%, irrespective of the milling process, whereas the resistant starch contents of DMR and WMR in DDS were 9.18% and 6.27%, respectively. In vitro digestibility of WMR was higher than that of DMR, and the estimated glycemic index of the rice flour varieties ranged from 57.6 to 81.3. Damaged starch content of WMR was less than that of DMR; in addition, a negative correlation was observed between the amylose and damaged starch contents of WMR. These results suggest that the properties of rice flour vary depending on the milling method and flour variety, and could be a reference for selecting the appropriate processing method.
Power consumption, mesh size, moisture content, color difference, amylogram of rice flour milled with the water soaked rice were compared with that of rice using dry pin mill process. The rice was soaked in 23, 24, 25, 26% of water for 10hr, independently. The more rice had moisture content, the less power consumption was needed. Power consumption to mill the rice soaked in 25% of water was less than that of dry rice by 6.8kW/100Kg. Moisture content of rice flour from the rice soaked with 25% of water was 2% higher than that of rice flour from the rice soaked with 23% of, water. Population of flour particle from the rice soaked with 24-25% of water was 45.7∼46.25 of 60 mesh, 9.7∼10.4% of 80∼100 mesh and 7.7∼8.1% of 100 mesh. Gelatinization temperature of rice flour from the rice soaked with 23% and 24∼25% of water was 65.70C and 64.50C, independently. Temperature of rice flour from the rice soaked with 23% 24∼25% of water sith minimum viscosity was 85.50C and 88.4∼88.70C, independently. Brightness and whiteness of the rice flour from the rice soaked with 24∼25% of water were 95.90∼95.95 and 905.82∼95.94, independently. Brightness and whiteness of the rice flour from the soaked rice were 1.2 and 1.7 higher than that of rice flour from the dry rice, independently.

The purposes of using cutting fluid during cutting have been cooling, lubricating, chip washing and anti-corroding. However, the present manufacturing industry restricts the use of cutting fluid because cutting fluid contains poisonous substances which are harmful to the human body. Therefore environmentally conscious machining and technology have more important position in machining process because cutting fluids have significant influence on the environment in milling process. In this study, environmentally conscious machining can be obtained by the way of selecting the optimum machinig conditon using the design of experiment. Cutting using oil-mist showed better cutting characteristics than dry, air and fluid cutting with respect to by cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness. Also, the optimum machining condition for cutting using oil-mist could be selected through Taguchi method.
This study deals with the effectiveness and its reaction of stearic acid, ethyl silicate and ethylene glycol as grinding aids in grinding of Hwasun flint clay by dry ball milling process. Results are follows ; 1) It was effective that stearic acid and ethyl silicate act as the grinding aids in grinding of Hwasun flint clay. Also, it was proven that addition of stearic acid and ethyl silicate was the most effective in 1.0 and 0.75wt%, respectively. 2) The addition of ethylene glycol below 0.5wt% showed better result than none, but when added more than 0.5wt% it behaved as the inhibitor of grinding process. 3) It was investigated that grinding aids increased the ability of the particle dispression by reducing the strong chhesive forces which is caused by extensive surface tension of water.
Mechanical coating process was applied to form 89 %-hydrolyzed poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) onto boron carbide ($B_4C$) nanopowder using one step high energy ball mill method. The polymer layer coated on the surface of B4C was changed to glass-like phase. The average particle size of core/shell structured $B_4C$/PVA was about 50 nm. The core/shell structured $B_4C$/PVA was formed by dry milling. However, the hydrolyzed PVA of $98{\sim}99%$ with high glass transition temperature ($T_g$) was rarely coated on the powder. The $T_g$ of polymer materials was one of keys for guest polymer coating on to the host powder by solvent free milling.

The purpose of using coolant in machining is both to increase a tool life and also to prevent product deformation and thus, stabilize the surface quality by lubricating and cooling the tool and the machining surface. However, a very small amount of cutting mist should be used because chlorine-based extreme pressure additives are used to generate environmental pollutants in the production process and cause occupational diseases of workers. In this study, medical titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-7Nb) was subjected to a processing experiment by selecting factors and levels affecting cutting power in the processing of the Aerosol Dry Lubrication (ADL) method using vegetable oil. The machining shape was a slot to sufficiently reflect the effect of the cutting depth. As for the measurement of cutting force, the trend of cutting characteristics was identified through complete factor analysis. The factors affecting the cutting force of ADL slot processing were identified using the reaction surface analysis method, and the characteristics of the cutting force according to the change in factor level were analyzed. As the cutting speed increased, the cutting force decreased and then increased again. The cutting force continued to increase as the feed speed increased. The increase in the cutting depth increased the cutting force more significantly than the increase in the cutting speed and the feed speed. Through the reaction surface analysis method, the regression equation for predicting cutting force was identified, and the optimal processing conditions were proposed. The cutting force was predicted from the secondary regression equation and compared with the experimental value.
This study investigated the effects of ball mill operation condition on the morphology of raw powders in the dry-type milling process using three types of ball mills traditional ball mill, stirred ball mill and planetary ball mill. Furthermore, since spherical powders offer the best combination of high hardness and high density, the optimum milling condition to produce sphere-shaped powders was studied. The applied rotation speed ranged from 200rpm (low rotation speed) to 700rpm (high rotation speed). The used ball size ranged from 1mm to 5mm. The metal powder morphology was studied using SEM, XRD and PSA. The aimed spherical powders could be obtained under the optimum experimental conditions: traditional ball mill(200rpm, 1mm ball), planetary ball mill (500rpm, 1mm ball) and also planetary ball mill (700rpm, 1 and 3 mm ball). The results show to the development of new material using spherical type copper powder/CNT composites for air-craft and automotive applications.
This study was conducted to obtain a basic information necessary to assess present rice milling technology in Korea The profiles for milling plants was analyzed by survey work.For the private custom-work mills, which process about 80 percent of domestic rice consumption ,their actual milling test for the identical samples as used for filed mills was conducted. Two rice varieties Japonica and Tongil-type were associated with the experiments. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Analyses for private custom-work mills showed their general aspects as; about 91 percent of the mills belonged to an individual owner ship ; more than 93 percent of the mills was established earlier than 1950 ; about 80 percent of the mills was powered with electric motor; mills having less than two employees were about 75 percent; about 45 percent of the mills provided for warehouse in storing customers cereal grains. 2. The polishers installed in 1,255mills within the surveyed area (7 counties) have been supplied by 44 different domestic manufacturers ;in but about 60 percent of which was supplied by 6major manufacturers. The polishers could be classified into two categories in terms of principles of their polishing actions ;jet-pearler and friction types. About 51 percent of the mills was equipped with the former which has been recognized as giving greater milling recovery than the friction types. 3. Reason for owners of private mills to supplement new machines was due mainly to pgrading their mills to meet the requirements that established by the Government. However, about 60 percent of the mill owners intended to replace with new pearler by their own needs to meet with new high yielding varieties. 4. Processing systems of each previate rice mills surveyed could be classified into three categories, depending upon whether the systems posessed such components as precleaner and paddy separator or not. Only 36.7 percent of mills was installed with both precleanr ad paddy seperrator, 5.0 percent of mills did have neither percleaner nor paddy seperator, and rest of them equipped only one of the two. Hence,it is needed for about 63% of rice miils to be supplemented with these basic facilities to meet with the requirements for the standaized system. 5. Actual milling capacity measured at each field rice mills was shown a wide variation, having range from about 190 to 1,210 kg/hr. The percentages of mills classified according to daily milling capacity based on this hourly capacity were 24.3% for the capacity less than 3 M/T a day; 20.0% for 3-4 M/T; 15.6% for 4-5 M/T; 6.7% for 5-6 M/T; 22.3% for 6-7 M/T; and 11.0% for more than 7 M/T a day. 6. Actual amount of rice processed was about 310 M/T a year in average. About 42% of total milled rice was processed during October to Decembear, which formed a peak demand period for rice mills. The amount of rice milled during January to May was relatively small, but it had still a large amount compared to that during June to September. 7. Utilization rate of milling facility, i. e., percentage of the actual amount of milled rice to the capacity of rice mills, was about 18% on the year round average, about 41% in the peak demand season, and about 10% during June to September. Average number of operating days for mills surveyed was about 250 days a year, and about 21 days a month. 8. Moisture contents of paddy at the time of field mill tests were ranged 14.5% to 19.5% for both Japonica and Tong-i] varieties, majority of paddy grains having moisture level much higher than 1530. To aviod potential reduction of milling recovery while milling and deterioration of milled rice while storage due to these high grain mJisture contents, it may be very important for farmers holding rice to dry by an artificial drying method. 9. Milling recovery of JapJnica varieties in rice mills was 75.0% in average and it was widely ranged from 69.0% to 78.0 % according to mills. Potential increase in milJing recovery of Japonica variety with improvement of mill facilities was estimated to about 1.9%. On the other hand, milling recovery of Tong-il varieties in the field mill tests was 69.8% in average and it ranged from 62% to 77 %, which is much wider than that of Japonica varieties. It is noticed that the average milling recovery of Tong-il variety of 69.8% was much less than that of the Japonica-type. It was estimated th3.t up to about 5.0% of milling recovery for Tong-il variety could be improved by improving the present lo'.ver graded milling technology. 10. Head rice recoveries, as a factor of representing the quality of commercial goods, of Japonica and Tong-il varieties were 65.9% and 53.8% in average, and they were widely ranged from 52% to 73% and from 44% to 65% , respectively. It was assessed that head rice recovery of Japonica varieties can be improved up 3.3% and that of Tong-il varieties by 7.0% by improving mill components and systems.
