Direct catalysis of vapors from vacuum pyrolysis of biomass was performed on MCM-41 to investigate the effects of operating parameters including catalyzing temperature, catalyzing bed height and system pressure on the organic yields. Optimization of organic phase yield was further conducted by employing response surface methodology. The statistical analysis showed that operating parameters have significant effects on the organic phase yield. The organic phase yield first increases and then decreases as catalyzing temperature and catalyzing bed height increase, and decreases as system pressure increases. The optimal conditions for the maximum organic phase yield were obtained at catalyzing temperature of $502.7^{\circ}C$, catalyzing bed height of 2.74 cm and system pressure of 6.83 kPa, the organic phase yield amounts to 15.84% which is quite close to the predicted value 16.19%. The H/C, O/C molar ratios (dry basis), density, pH value, kinematic viscosity and high heat value of the organic phase obtained at optimal conditions were 1.287, 0.174, $0.98g/cm^3$, 5.12, $5.87mm^2/s$ and 33.08 MJ/kg, respectively. Organic product compositions were examined using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and the analysis showed that the content of oxygenated aromatics in organic phase had decreased and hydrocarbons had increased, and the hydrocarbons in organic phase were mainly aliphatic hydrocarbons. Besides, thermo-gravimetric analysis of the MCM-41 zeolite was conducted within air atmosphere and the results showed that when the catalyst continuously works over 100 min, the index of physicochemical properties of bio-oil decreases gradually from 1.15 to 0.45, suggesting that the refined bio-oil significantly deteriorates. Meanwhile, the coke deposition of catalyst increases from 4.97% to 14.81%, which suggests that the catalytic activity significantly decreases till the catalyst completely looses its activity.
Gyeongoggo is first described in the Collected Prescription by Hong Family in the Song Dynasty in China. It is composed of Radix Rehmnniae, Panax ginseng, Poria cocos, and Mel. Its main efficacy is to treat weakness of primordial essence of body and dry cough, and to invigorate qi and replenish yin principle. It is one of the most important prescriptions that people have been using for a long time. We studied the documents recorded in the medical classics and comprehended the following results. Gyeongoggo has efficacy to keep a person healthy and live long age, to treat amnesia and dizziness from brain weakness, to strengthen muscle and bone by improving function of stomach and colon, to improve a person's memory and judgement, to invigorate brain weakness, and, to treat tuberculosis and lung cancer. The longer a person take it, the better it is for one's health and meditation. When it is made, it is important to mix four components up, to boil it with an oak tree for three days and nights, and then to add water from a well to reduce heat for a full day, and to boil up again for a full day to mature fully. As gyeongoggo is acquired not only by the full heart of a manufacturer but also the sympathy of nature, it is important to choose a clean place to make and keep. When it is taken, it is proper to take it with warm water or liquors. And when it is made, we came to know that it is possible to make gyeongoggo with special efficacy by adding one to three more components.
This study analyzed the qualitative characteristics and antioxidant effect of Artemisia by experimenting its medicinal effect and functionality. Moisture content increased in proportion to heating time and decreased in reverse proportion to temperature and time. In the contents of mineral compounds, P was shown in the order of roasting temperature $230^{\circ}C$ > $80^{\circ}C$ > $110^{\circ}C$, and blanching condition was 0.50% in one and two minute treatment and 0.38% in five minute treatment. The contents of Ca didn't have significant differences according to the types of treatment. The contents of Fe were higher than general vegetables with 0.54~1.02 mg/100 g. The contents of phenolic compounds were highest in the control plot, followed by one minute blanching and roasting at $110^{\circ}C$ was the lowest. The intensity of electron donating ability was decreased in 14 minute blanching at $230^{\circ}C$. Based on the result of the study, roasting at low temperature and blanching which is Korean traditional method are desirable when cooking with Artemisia.

Oil hydraulic piston pumps are being extensively used around the world, because of their simple design, light weight, effective cost, etc. An oil hydraulic pump is likely to have the serious problems of high leakage, friction, and low energy efficiency after a long period of use. In an oil hydraulic piston pump, the clearance between the valve block and piston plays an important role for volumetric and overall efficiency. In this study, the wear property of the SACM645 material with DLC coating used for a hydraulic piston pump was determined by experimentation with variable heat treatment. To investigate the effect according to the piston surface condition, five different types of specimens were prepared. The maximum tensile strengths of the QT and QT Nitration specimens had similar values of about 800 MPa, but the strains indicated a big difference. In a wear test, the wear characteristic of the DLC coating specimen was shown to be excellent. The QT, QT + IH, QT + Nitration, and matirx specimen showed similar wear characteristics. In the case of a dry condition without oil, the DLC coating specimen had good wear resistance, with no wear shown.
In order to simultaneously vitrify the ton Exchange Resin(IER) and Dry Active Waste(DAW) generated from the Nuclear Power Plants, a vitrification pilot test was conducted using an induction cold crucible melter. The PCT result evaluating the chemical durability of the vitrified from showed that the final glass was more durable than the benchmark glass. Liquidus temperature for the final vitrified form was 1048 K(775$\^{C}$) fur heat treatment experiments. The value of the compressive strength for the vitrified form was ninety times higher than the regulation limit, 34 kg/㎠. The glasses on bottom, middle and top of the CCM were homogeneous with no secondary phase. The precipitation of the magnetic metal phase was able to be avoided by simultaneously fEeding of DAW with IER containing strongly reducing organics. Volume reduction factor of 74 was achieved through the vitrification Pilot test for mixed waste.
One-step immuno-chromatography assay system for heat-killed Salmonella typhimurium antigens was developed. Three major components used were a glass fiber membrane (placed at the bottom of the system) with an antibody (specific to the analyse, detection antibody)-gold conjugate deposited in a dry state on the surface, a nitrocellulose membrane (middle) with an antibody (also, specific to the analyse but recognized different epitome: capture antibody) and anti-detection antibody immobilized in spatially separated areas, and a cellulose membrane (top) as absorption pad. These membranes were partially superimposed such that a wicking of aqueous solution containing sample can continuously take place through membranes. Variables that affected the system performance were the concentration of capture antibody, the location on the membrane, inert protein used for blocking of the membrane and for carrying the sample, and the concentration of the gold conjugate. Under optimal conditions, within 15 minutes after absorption of a sample solution from the bottom of the system antigen-antibody complexes of sandwich type were formed on the membrane surface area with immobilized capture antibody and a color signal was generated in proportion to the analyse concentration. The minimum do tection limit of the analyse was $1{\times}106$ Salmonella cells/mL.
The purpose of the present study was to suggest the design requirements for Korean naval duty uniforms by evaluating the physiological and psychological comfort while wearing the uniforms. Two sets of wear trials were conducted with summer uniforms(eight young males) and winter uniforms(seven other young males). The summer wear trial consisted of 10-min rest, 60-min exercise, and 10-min recovery at an air temperature($T_{air} $) of $33^{\circ}C$ and 62%RH, followed by 10-min recovery at a $T_{air} $ of $23^{\circ}C$ and 64%RH(total 90 min). The winter wear trial consisted of 20-min rest at $T_{air} $$20^{\circ}C$ and 55%RH, 25-min rest, 30-min exercise, and 35-min recovery at a $T_{air} $ of 0oC and 43%RH(total 110 min). Rectal and seven skin temperatures, clothing microclimate, heart rate, oxygen consumption, total sweat rate, and subjective perceptions were measured during the wear trials. By evaluating the experimental results from the wear trials, we extracted the following psycho-physiological design requirements to improve the current Korean naval uniforms: (1) It is important to maintain the skin temperatures within their comfort range, which depends on the body region (higher than $30^{\circ}C$ in winter, but less than $35^{\circ}C$ in summer). (2) In summer, the feet should be protected from the high heat of the ship floor surface. (3) In summer, sweat from the back should be sufficiently absorbed and allowed to dry quickly.
This study was conducted to determine changes in internal temperature and chemical composition during the composting of broiler litter(BL) and to evaluate the feasibility of use of a small-scale pelletizer for the pelleting of composted BL. BL was composted for 4 weeks in an wooden cell with a size of 1 m length $\times$ 1 m width $\times$ 1.2 m height. Internal temperature reached to peak(68$^{\circ}C$) at the fourth day and thereafter gradually reduced. Among chemical components in BL, composting reduced organic matter content and increased dry matter and indigestible protein(ADF-CP) contents. When BL was pelleted using an economical small-scale pelletizer, the proper die diameter was 8~18 mm and the proper moisture content of composted BL was 20~25%. Beyond these proper conditions, addition of heat and pressure or pellet aids may be necessary. Pelleting of BL resulted in nearly threefold increase of bulk density, significant moisture evaporation, and little change in chemical components except for increased indigestible protein. In conclusion, BL may be converted into a feed with low to medium nutrition by the composting and pelleting process.

A drying machine for discarded Citrus scrap was developed in this study. The Citrus produced in Jeju Province was treated as wastes (a) after making a beverage, such as drinking juice, and (b) if the size of the product did not fit with its agricultural product criteria. Various types of drying machine were developed in this study, and different kinds of technologies were combined improve the performance. To enhance the performance, the system was maintained in a vacuum state, and a high frequency micro wave was activated to the waste Citrus scrap, to heat up the moisture inside the Citrus kernels. The frequency of the micro-wave was 2.6 GHz, which is the resonant frequency of the molecules. Experiments were conducted with a vacuum of 50, 100, 150, 300, 500, and 700 mbar. The waste Citrus scrap has two types of status : (a) original scrap, and (b) mixed with blender. As results, specimen (a) shows a 0.13 g/sec evaporation rate, while specimen (b) shows a 0.19 g/sec rate, at 50 mbar of environment vacuum condition. For the drying efficiency, specimens (a) and (b) show 0.15 g/W and 0.24 g/W, respectively.
Microcapsules consisting of natural, biodegradable polymers for controlled and/or sustained core release applications are needed. Physicochemical properties of whey proteins suggest that they may be suitable wall materials in developing such microcapsules. The objectives of the research were to develop water-insoluble, whey protein-based microcapsules containing a model water-soluble drug using a chemical cross-linking agent, glutaraldehyde, and to investigate core release from these capsules at simulated physiological conditions. A model water soluble drug, theophylline, was suspended in whey protein isolate (WPI) solution. The suspension was dispersed in a mixture of dichloromethane and hexane containing 1% biomedical polyurethane. Protein matrices were cross-linked with 7.5-30 ml of glutaraldehyde-saturated toluene (GAST) for 1-3 hr. Microcapsules were harvested, washed, dried and analyzed for core retention, microstructure, and core release in enzyme-free simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and simulated intestinal fluid(SIF) at $37^{\circ}C$. A method consisting of double emulsification and heat gelation was also developed to prepare water-insoluble, whey protein-based microcapsules containing anhydrous milkfat (AMF) as a model apolar core. AMF was emulsified into WPI solution (15${\sim}$30%, pH 4.5-7.2) at a proportion of 25${\sim}$50%(w/w, on dry basis). The oil-in-water emulsion was then added and dispersed into corn oil ($50^{\circ}C$) to form an O/W/O double emulsion and then heated at $85^{\circ}C$ for 20 min for gelation of whey protein wall matrix. Effects of emulsion composition and pH on core retention, microstructure, and water-solubility of microcapsules were determined. Overall results suggest that whey proteins can be used in developing microcapsules for controlled and sustained core release applications.
