Shape Optimal Design to Minimize Stress Concentration in the Journal of the Heating Drum for a Hot-Rolling Press (열간압연 프레스용 가열드럼 저어널부의 응력집중 최소화를 위한 형상 최적설계)

  • The present research deals with structural analysis and optimal design of the heating drum of a hot-rolling press for medium density fiberboard. Stress concentration in the journal of the heating drum is analyzed by the submodel technique of the finite element method. The fatigue life under operating conditions is analyzed and evaluated by the stress-life theory. Shape optimal design problems, to minimize the maximum stress occurring in the journal, are formulated and shape parameters of the corner fillets of the journal are defined as the design variables. The problems are solved by the numerical optimization method and optimal shapes are found. The optimal designs are shown to be reliable in terms of the maximum stress and the fatigue life.

  • Because few signals are generated using low resolution position sensor at low speed, rotor position estimation is difficult in drum washing machine application. Besides, inertia of water and drum affect the initial operation load up to two times of rated load. Therefore overcurrent can be occurred at initial operation. In this paper, IPMSM vector control for drum washing machine is proposed by applying I/F initial operating method and sensorless control. And we verify the performance through experiment.

Effects of Species on the Isocyanate-bonded Flakeboard Properties

  • Flakeboards made from ring- and drum-cut flakes of Douglas-fir, hemlock, red lauan and kapur using two kinds of resin levels were evaluated for the selected properties according to flake thickness. The pH and buffering capacity of four species were determined. Those of kapur were extremely different from the other three species. These pH and buffering capacity values result in the poor internal bond strength of kapur flakeboard. The internal bond strength was affected significantly by flake thickness, resin content and species. MOR and MOE in bending strength were maximized at medium drum-cut flake thickness. Screw holding strength was not consistent for flake thickness, but it was influenced by species. Thickness swelling and water absorption of Douglas-fir and hemlock flakeboard were minimized at medium drum-cut flake thickness.

Balancing of Digital VCR Head Drum (디지털 VCR 헤드 드럼의 밸런싱 연구)

  • Dynamic stability in rotation of the head drum of digital VCR is very important due to the nature of high rotation speed and small angular inertia. Therefore special considerations on reducing the unbalance and assuring the stability are required the design and manufacturing process. In this paper, newly developed digital head drum is introduced. And advanced methods in analyzing and reducing the unbalance is suggested. LDV(Laser Doppler Vibrometer) was used as a measurement system verifying our modeling and new method for balancing. Experiments show that the theoretical data estimated by modeling of shaft bending caused by unbalance mass and the measured data are almost identical. The deflection was reduced to 30% by applying the suggested balancing method.

  • A cone shape drum polisher was developed to make up for the demerits of conventional CMP apparatus. The developed equipment has several superiorities. First of all, it can achieve uniform velocity profile on all the contact line because of its shape and easy to control the amount of slurry at the position of use. The whole area of wafer surface is exposed to the visual area except the contact line between wafer and drum, hence we can detect polishing end point more easily than any other polishing equipments. Also it has additional merits such as small foot print and polishing load. Polishing characteristics were investigated by developed equipment.

  • In the case of axisymmetric thermal analysis of drum brakes, the distribution of frictional heat produced on the interface and temperature difference between mating frictional faces are very interesting problems to computational researchers. In this paper, heat conduction from the interface to the pad and the drum was modeled by using a thin interface element, so artificial division of the generated frictional heat between pad and drum is not necessary. Temperature difference between mating frictional faces is successfully modeled by using the interface element. The influence of some parameters on tile thermal stress was checked. The analysis was performed by ABAQUS/Standard code.

  • The condensation water temperature $(T_{CW})$ distributions on the combi-drum washer of condensation type which the cloth washes, rinses, spins and dry cloth over a heater were measured using the thermocouples. During the drying process, in order to find out the relationship between the $T_{CW}$ distribution and the cloth dryness level $(C_{D1})$, the experiment was made for the dehydration rate of the cloth $(C_{D0})$ is 63%, the weight of cloth $(W_{C0})$ from 1 to 6kg. In result, according to $W_{C0}$ and $C_{D0}$, the distributions of $T_{CW}$ are very different. Using this tendency, it was appropriate and it developed the automatic drying algorithm and it was gotten dryness level regardless of $W_{C0}$, $C_{D0}$ and the other factor.

  • This paper suggests a detailed design of APS(Advanced Planning & Scheduling) system using the DBR (Drum-Buffer-Rope) which is a finite capacity scheduling logic of TOC(Theory of Constraints). Our design is composed of four modules; Network, Buffer, Drum and Subordination. The Network module defines the Product Network which is built from BOM and routings. The Buffer module inserts the Buffers into the Product Network. The Drum module describes detail procedures to create Drum Schedule on the CCR(Capacity Constraint Resource). The Subordination module synchronizes all non-constraints to the constraints by determining the length of Rope. This design documented by ARIS.

  • A drum clutch which is a main part for the automatic transmission of auto-mobiles has been manufactured by glob threading and machining. The tooth shape of the drum clutch manufactured by machining has lower dimensional accuracy than that by pressing and its machining needs the enormous cost at plant investment. Thus, this study was designed to develop cold forging process and to improve the productivity and dimensional accuracy. In this work, variables affecting dimensional accuracy were first determined, then cold forming process design according to each variables was performed by FE simulation. Optimal process was suggested on the basis of analytical results.
