Hyaluronic acid(HA) microbeads were synthesized by dropping the sodium hyaluronate(Streptococcus) solutions in NaOH into a solution mixture of divinyl sulfone(DVS) in 2-methyl-1-propanol, followed by stirring, cleaning and drying process at room temperature. The initial experimental conditions are crosslinking time(CLTi) of 5 h, crosslinking temperature(CLTe) of room temperature, injection air pressure(IAPr) of 5 psi, and DVS concentration( DVSc) of 0.2 vol%, respectively. Then, parametric studies were performed by varying the parameters to investigate the morphology, the porosity, the swelling ratio and the size of the beads. The microbead size pattern was not regular to function of the degree of crosslink. It was observed that the swelling ratio, the degree of crosslink, and the pore size can be controlled by adjusting the CLTi, CLTe and DVSc. Among the parameters investigated, the smallest bead size can be achieved by varying the CLTi parameter. The lowest swelling ratio, as an indication of the highest degree of crosslink, can be obtained by varying CLTe.
Dynamic compaction has evolved as an acceptable method of site improvement by treating poor soils in situ. The method is often an economical alternative for utilizing shallow foundations and preparing subgrades for construction when compared with conventional solutions. In general, the installation purpose of dynamic compaction are to increase bearing capacity and decrease differential settlement within a specified depth of improvement. This method involves the s systematically dropping large weights onto the ground surface to compact the underlying ground. The weights used on dynamic compaction projects have been typically constructed of steel plates, sand or concrete filled steel shells, and reinforced concrete. Typically, weights range from 5-20 ton and base configurations are, circular or octagonal. In this study, the effective depth of improvement is evaluated based on the numerical analysis code, the dynamic analysis of FLAC-3D program, in order to analyze the influence parameters ; ground conditions, maximum applied load and the area of compaction plate.
This study is to develop a new composite material, a mixture of epoxy resin and granite aggergates which is called Expoxy-Granite, to overcome the inherent disadvantages of conventional materials commonly used as a bed structure material of long-term dimensional/ thermal stability. Under the various manufacturing conditions which could be formulated through experimental investigation, we have constructed 6 kinds of Epoxy-Granite structure models having one fifth the size of the ultra-precision machine tool bed structure. They are compared with cast iron and pure granite models through the dynamic test and the thermal deformation test. Both in the steel ball dropping test and in the forced vibration test, three types of epoxy-granite models made in this study have shown much better dynamic characteristics than the cast iron model and almost the same characteristics as compared with the pure granite model. In the thermal deformation test the above composite materials have also represented lower thermal displacements in the vertical direction of each model as compared with other specimens. It is therefore seen that the epoxy-granite complsite material can be applied to the construction of high-precision machine tool bed, instead of cast iron or pure granite.
The purpose of this study is to confirm the impact of noise on subject accomplishment as well as physical/mental load, and evaluates the effects of noise-masking and earplug. 15 college students participate in the test, and the comparison is performed by executing four projects according to conditional categories of noise environments; control condition, noise condition, earplug condition, and noise-masking condition. Noise in the field site of the H manufacturer was used as the noise source, the general job aptitude test which consist of linguistic ability, math ability, perception ability, reasoning ability was used as the task of this project. To estimate physical/mental load evaluation, we used the heart rate R-R interval, Criteria flicker fusion frequency(CFF) and measured NASA-TLX workload for subjective evaluation. As the research outcome, it is shown that there is a meaningful difference for the project task score, dropping rate of CFF, the heart rate, and NASA-TLX subjective evaluation score according to conditions of noise environment. Therefore, the impact of noise on capability of subject accomplishment as well as physical/mental load was confirmed along with the effects of using earplug and noise-masking.
Random Early Detection (RED) [1] is an active queue management scheme which has been deployed extensively to reduce packet loss during congestion. Although RED can improve loss rates, its performance depends severely on the tuning of its operating parameters. The idea of adaptively varying RED parameters to suit the network conditions has been investigated in [2], where the maximum packet dropping probability $max_p$ has been varied. This paper focuses on adaptively varying the queue weight $\omega_q$ in conjunction with $max_p$ to improve the performance. We propose two algorithms viz., $\omega_q$-thresh and $\omega_q$-ewma to adaptively vary $\omega_q$. The performance is measured in terms of the packet loss percentage, link utilization and stability of the instantaneous queue length. We demonstrate that varying $\omega_q$ and $max_p$ together results in an overall improvement in loss percentage and queue stability, while maintaining the same link utilization. We also show that $max_p$ has a greater influence on loss percentage and queue stability as compared to $\omega_q$, and that varying $\omega_q$ has a positive influence on link utilization.
In this study, the functional property as a super abrasive material was secured for CBN powder by the electroless Ni-P plating on the surface of the particle. The plating solution has been prepared to control the surface morphology by regulating surfactants and process conditions. The effects of processing parameters on the surface morphology of CBN powder was discussed. The results are summarized as follows; A stable plating tendency was achieved from 1 hour after quantitatively dropping reducing agent. It was observed that more than 50% of the weight gain was obtained by Ni-P coating on the surface of CBN super abrasive powder. The morphology of the Ni-P coating layer is consisted of botryoidal and spiky type and it could be controlled by regulating processing parameters. Superior characteristic in terms of surface morphology was found in the nonionic surfactant XL-80N. It was found that XL-80N considerably decreased surface tension of CBN powder and Ni-P alloy surface then enhance wettability as well as plating rate. Metal coated CBN powder as a raw material of resin bond wheel has been developed through this investigation.
$TiO_2$ coating ceramic tile for self-cleaning purpose was prepared by the precipitant dropping method using $TiCl_4$ as a precursor. $TiO_2$ film was formed on the ceramic tile by spray-coating technique and heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The size and crystalline structure of $TiO_2$ particles were 15.3 nm and anatase phase. The outdoor exposure tests were conducted and the effects of outdoor exposure test conditions, such as exhaust concentration of contamination materials (test places), the UV light intensity (irradiation direction) and coating amounts of $TiO_2$ on the self-cleaning properties were investigated by the brightness measurements. As a results, self-cleaning property of $TiO_2$ coating tile was affected by the coating amount of $TiO_2$ however, not affected by the UV light intensity included in sun's ray (irradiation direction). $TiO_2$ coating ceramic tile can be utilized for exterior finishing materials because of self-cleaning property of $TiO_2$ coating tile.
The spacer grid is one of the main structural components in the fuel assembly, which supports the fuel rods, guides cooling water, and protects the system from an external impact load, such as earthquakes. Therefore, the mechanical and structural properties of the spacer grids must be extensively examined while designing them. In this paper, a numerical method for predicting the buckling strength of spacer grids is presented. Numerical analyses on the buckling behavior of the spacer grids are performed for a various array of sizes of the grids considering that the spacer grid is an assembled structure with thin-walled plates and imposing proper boundary conditions by nonlinear dynamic finite element method using ABAQUS/Explicit. Buckling tests on several numbers of specimens of the spacer grid were also carried out in order to compare the results between the test and the simulation result. The drop test is accomplished by dropping a carriage on the specimen at a pre-determined position. From this test, the specimens are buckled only at the uppermost and the lowermost layer among the multi-cells, which is similar to the local buckling at the weakest point of the grid structure. The simulated results also similarly predicted the local buckling phenomena and were found to give good correspondence with the experimental values for the thin-walled grid structures.
In general, a cooling tower has two major noise sources, one is the fan and the other is the falling water. The fan noise is produced by passage of its blades through the air and radiates from the fan stack. Noises from the falling water are caused by splashing and dropping of water cascading over the internal filler of the cooling tower and into the basin and radiate from the louvered face. In this paper, the noise measurements and its frequency analysis are carried out for the locations facing the louvered side and near the fan stack referring the related code and standards in order to study the noise characteristics of the induced-draft cooling tower, especially for the buildings. As a result, it is found that for every doubling of distance from the noise source the noise level decreases by 2~4dBA in the near field with reflect surfaces and decreases by about 6dBA also in the far field without reflect surfaces. As a supplement to the noise measurements, a computer program with simple algorithm is developed in order to estimate the noise level at a distance from the cooling tower, so that the user could apply and modify it for the particular boundary conditions easily.
Gallium is an important element in the production of a variety of compound semiconductors for optoelectronic devices. Gallium has a low melting point and is easily oxidized to give oxides of different compositions that depend on the conditions of solutions containing Ga. Gallium electrode reaction is highly irreversible in acidic media at the dropping mercury electrode. The passive film on a gallium surface is formed during anodic oxidation of gallium metal in alkaline media. Besides, some results in published reports have not been consistent and reproducible. An increase in the demand of intermetallic compounds and semiconductors containing gallium gives rise to studies on electrosynthesis of them and an increase of gallium concentration in the environment with various application of gallium causes the development of electroanalysis tools of Ga. It is required to understand the electrochemistry of Ga and to predict the electrochemical behavior of Ga to meet these needs. Any review papers related to the electrochemistry of gallium have not been published since 1978, when the review on the subject was published by Popova et al. In this study, the redox behavior, anodic oxidation, and electrodeposition of gallium, and trace determination of gallium by stripping voltammetries will be reviewed.
