Women in the predominantly male-oriented college of engineering which is afflicted by the high dropout rate and the low employment rate of coeds in their majoring fields because of the die-hard male dominant culture. In order to resolve the related problems, P University has been actively engaged in a movement called "Women into Engineering" (WIE) to raise the gender cognitive awareness and to train women engineers for highly qualified work force. As part of the movement, a subject called "Women in Engineering" that focuses on the gender cognitive perspective is effective to reduce the dropout rate and to land a job inside their fields by stimulating their interest in their specialty and masting soft/hard skills. The study was conducted a survey of the coeds who have completed the "Women in Engineering" course to evaluate the degree of satisfaction perceived, and a t-test through comparing the group of the coeds and a group of coeds who have not taken the course. The results showed statistically significant responses indicating that both groups of coeds would like to see WIE offer more basic engineering courses like "Women in Engineering". This may lay the foundation to offer other major engineering courses for juniors and seniors that emphasize the gender cognitive approach.

With decreasing the number of high school graduates, it is vital for each college to maintain its enrollment number as well as to preserve its dropout rate in a lower level. It is true that all universities and colleges have experienced inevitable dropouts that were in fact more serious in 2 to 3-year colleges. There have been prior studies to examine what factors affected to students' dropout in various ways. However, no specific programs were employed to mitigate the rates of dropout. In this study, new encouraging program is introduced for the students who were not ready to study and isolated from classroom. The result showed that the program led to the GPA enhancement in larger number of participants. Nevertheless, the sustainablity of the program would be unclear unless it combines with other existing programs.
One of the biggest difficulties in the vocational training field is the dropout problem. A large number of students drop out during the training process, which hampers the waste of the state budget and the improvement of the youth employment rate. Previous studies have mainly analyzed the cause of dropouts. The purpose of this study is to propose a machine learning based model that predicts dropout in advance by using various information of learners. In particular, this study aimed to improve the accuracy of the prediction model by taking into consideration not only structured data but also unstructured data. Analysis of unstructured data was performed using Word2vec and Convolutional Neural Network(CNN), which are the most popular text analysis technologies. We could find that application of the proposed model to the actual data of a domestic vocational training institute improved the prediction accuracy by up to 20%. In addition, the support vector machine-based prediction model using both structured and unstructured data showed high prediction accuracy of the latter half of 90%.

This study analyzed the status and causes for the dropouts of college based on the survey conducted among 14,210 freshmen attending D College, other than the supernumerary special selection, from 2001 through 2005. A significant difference was shown in all items of general characteristics. The dropout rate of women, generally selected and general highschool graduated were higher than for men, specially selected and special high school graduated, respectively. The most dropouts were due to Not Return(40.16%), followed by Unenrolled(32.98%), Voluntary Leave(26.05%) and Expelled(0.81%) in order. In the distribution of the central tendency values measured from the entire subjects, the high school records and the days of absence showed a positive skewness, while the college records showed a negative skewness with the data mostly around a higher grade. The standard deviation indicating that the dropouts got the scores higher than those of the continuing students demonstrated that there was relatively insignificant difference in scores between two groups. It was demonstrated that both the high school records and the days of absence affected the dropout. The lower the high school records were, and the more the days of absence were, the more influence both items had on the dropout. The influence degree of each item was similar. Lower the scores were in terms other than the first term in the freshmen year, the more influence it had on the dropout. The most dropouts were influenced by the scores of the freshmen year, followed by the credits of the second term, the scores of the first term, the scores of the second term, and the credits of the first term in the freshmen year. Among the general characteristic items, the most dropouts were influenced by the course of study, followed by the gender. The effect of other items was insignificant.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of hospital-based pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) on exercise capacity and quality of life as well as barriers to participation in persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in South Korea. Design: One-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: A total of 14 patients were enrolled in this study in an 8-week PR program with two 60-minute sessions per week. The program included: flexibility exercises, breathing techniques, strengthening exercises, and aerobic exercises. The outcomes were defined as changes in the variables before and after the PR program. A change in the 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) was defined as the primary outcome, and changes in pulmonary function test, respiratory and grip strength, and the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) about quality-of-life results were secondary outcomes. A dropout was defined as missing >3 of the 16 sessions. Results: Patients who completed the program showed a significant improvement of 43.57±39.43 m in the 6MWD (p<0.05), but no significant differences were noted for the other function tests. The SGRQ showed a significant improvement in the activity and total score (p<0.05). The total dropout rate was 53.3%. Newly developed symptoms, exacerbation of COPD, transport problems, and lack of motivation were major barriers to PR. Conclusions: Our study showed that an 8-week hospital-based PR program improved exercise capacity and quality of life but had a high dropout rate in individuals with COPD. Since comprehensive PR has only recently been established in South Korea, patient motivation and education are critical.

Drift gillnet fishery for neon flying squid in the North pacific was one of the major pelagic fisheries of Korea until 1992, its annual catch was 79, 000M/T as average during 1988-1992, but moratoriumed since 1993 according to the decision of UN. Therefore, for the developing of the new fishing gear for the squid, the seven types of rip hook by automatic squid jigging machine were experimented by the korean research vessel Pusan 851 (G/T 1.126, 2.600 PS) in the North Pacific (38 $^{\circ}$30'-43 $^{\circ}$N, 152 $^{\circ}$E-178 $^{\circ}$W) from July 6. 1993 to August 31. 1993. The investigation on catch rate, dropout rate, and catch condition of the rip hooks related to the fishing lamp power for aggregating the squid were carried out during the period. The results obtained are as follows: The composition of catch by automatic squid jigging machine was 83.9% for neon flying squid. 15.5% for boreopacific gonate squid. 0.6% for boreal clubhook squid, and 0.01% for luminous flying squid. The catch rate of neon flying squid was 94.6% in 13.6-18.3$^{\circ}C$ of surface water temperature and 5.4% in others. The higher catch rate of neon flying squid was made in the range 13.6-18.3$^{\circ}C$ of temperature at the surface and about 1$0^{\circ}C$ of temperature at the 100m layer. The CPUE of neon flying squid in the 13.6-18.3$^{\circ}C$ of surface water temperature was ranged 0.8-11.8kg (8.7kg as average). The mantle length and body weight of neon flying squid caught in the experiment were ranged 18.3-51.3 cm, 140-3, 980g and mean mantle length and mean body weight were 29.4cm, 972g respectively. The catch rate of neon flying squid was the highest at dawn with a value of 25.0% of the total catch. The body weight of neon flying squid caught by the D type hooks was 1.7 times more than that of the A type hooks. The dropout rate of neon flying squid caught by the seven types hooks was 7.9-57.5% (19.0% as average), and dropout rate of the D type hooks was 7.9% with 2.7 times decrease than that of the A type hooks. The catch efficiency of small sized neon flying squid in case of using on-off switch method on fishing lamp in 15 minutes intervals was 2.6 times higher than that of the on-switch method with same fishing lamp power.

CNN's technologies that represent emotional detection include primitive CNN algorithms, deployment normalization, and drop-off. We present the methods and data of the three experiments in this paper. The training database and the test database are set up differently. The first experiment is to extract emotions using Batch Normalization, which complemented the shortcomings of distribution. The second experiment is to extract emotions using Dropout, which is used for rapid computation. The third experiment uses CNN using convolution and maxpooling. All three results show a low detection rate, To supplement these problems, We will develop a deep learning algorithm using feature extraction method specialized in image processing field.

As the university's academic management was not carried out smoothly due to COVID-19, and most of them were conducted as non-face-to-face classes, students' dropout is steadily increasing. In this study focus group interviews were conducted to analyze physics students and professors' recognition of the COVID-19 non-face-to-face class environment. Based on the results, the implications of non-face-to-face classes for physics education were presented. Physics students described their feelings about un-tact teaching as 'the class in which the body is comfortable but the mind is uncomfortable', 'a person who is smarter than me seems to explain a book, reading it' and 'a short clip lecture which may be comfortable but cause losses to me', while the professors also described them as 'a fully transformed class system' and 'a online class putting much burden on me'. Regarding school dropout, students said that the concerns about dropout during non-face-to-face classes were deepened about transfer or transfer. The professors said that the department atmosphere had lost vitality due to the increase in non-face-to-face classes and academic dropouts, and had a lot of worries because of the recruitment rate and external university evaluation. The implications of the COVID-19 non-face-to-face class situation for physics education suggest that it is required to strengthen the interaction between professors and students, finding ways to enhance the sense of reality to supplement laboratory classes and giving opportunities to professors to share their pedagogical contents knowledge in physics.
