벽면에 충돌하는 분무의 미립화에 관한 수치적 모델 (A Numerical Model for Atomization of an Impinging Spray on the Wall)

  • A spray-wall impingement model for fuel sprays is proposed and implemented as a module into the KIVA-POSTECH code. The model is based on the single droplet experiments. The droplet behaviors after impingement are determined from experimental correlations. Different behaviors of impinged droplets depend on the wall temperature and the critical temperature of the fuel. Fuel film formation is taken into account so that the model can be applicable to any wall temperature and injection conditions. Computational results on a normal and on inclined wall are in good agreement for the spray shape and penetration. More validation against experiments and development of the heat transfer model are needed for further improvement.

An Overview of Liquid Spray Modeling Formed by High-Shear Nozzle/Swirler Assembly

  • A multi-dimensioanl model is being increasingly used to predict the thermo-flow field in the gas turbine combustor. This article addresses an integrated survey of modeling of the liquid spray formation and fuel distribution in gas turbine with high-shear nozzle/swirler assembly. The processes of concern include breakup of a liquid jet injected through a hole type orifice into air stream, spray-wall interaction and spray-film interaction, breakup of liquid sheet into ligaments and droplet,5, and secondary droplet breakup. Atomization of liquid through hole nozzle is described using a liquid blobs model and hybrid model of Kelvin-Helmholtz wave and Rayleigh-Taylor wave. The high-speed viscous liquid sheet atomization on the pre-filmer is modeled by a linear stability analysis. Spray-wall interaction model and liquid film model over the wall surface are also considered.

  • A model for the prediction of combustion and exhaust emissions of DI diesel engine has been formulated and developed. This model is a quasi-dimensional phenomenological one and is based on multi-zone combustion modelling concept. This model is developed based on the concept of Hiroyasu's multizone combustion models. It takes nozzle injection (spray) parameters, induction swirl into consideration and the models of zone velocity, air entrainment, fuel droplet evaporation and mixture combustion are upgraded. Various parameters, such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate, Nox and soot emission, and these parameters in the zone are simulated. The results are compared with the experimental ones, too.

CFD 모델을 이용한 단순 스프링클러 헤드 주위의 액막 유동해석 (Numerical Analysis of a Liquid Sheet Flow around a Simplified Sprinkler Head Using a CFD Model)

  • 본 연구는 스프링클러 헤드 근처에서 형성되는 액막의 자유표면 유동에 대해 CFD 모델을 적용하여 해석하고 스프링클러의 초기분무 특성 예측을 위한 기존 이론식의 결과와 비교를 통해 이론 모델의 타당성을 검토하였다. CFD 해석은 상용 해석프로그램인 CFX 14.0을 이용하였으며 노즐과 디플렉터로 이루어진 단순형상에 대해 표준난류모델과 VOF법을 적용하여 해석을 수행하였다. 평판부의 디플렉터 끝단에서 속도분포는 CFD 해석과 경험식이 매우 잘 일치된 결과를 보였으나 기하학적 형상이 복잡한 부분에서는 속도분포의 차이를 보였다. 이론모델에서 예측된 평균액적크기는 실제 스프링클러 헤드에서 측정된 평균액적크기에 대한 이전 연구결과와 큰 차이를 보였다. 그러나 이론 모델은 스프링클러 헤드의 초기 액적형성과정의 메커니즘을 이해하고 실험적 접근이 용이하지 않은 상황에서 분무 액적의 특성을 예측하는데 유동한 도구로 활용될 수 있다.

500 N급 과산화수소/케로신 로켓엔진의 추진제 액적 분무와 증발을 고려한 연소 수치해석 (Numerical Simulations on Combustion Considering Propellant Droplet Atomization and Evaporation of 500 N Class Hydrogen Peroxide / Kerosene Rocket Engine)

  • 96% 과산화수소와 케로신을 추진제로 사용하는 500 N 급 로켓엔진에 대하여 추진제의 분무, 기화, 혼합, 연소를 포함하는 수치해석을 수행하였다. 1/6 조각의 연소실을 격자로 생성하였으며, 세 가지 종류의 액체상 추진제(케로신, 과산화수소, 물)가 속이 빈 콘 형태로 공급되는 분무를 모사하였고, Rosin-Rammler 함수에 따른 액적크기 분포를 가정하였으며, 연소 해석에는 와류소산모델을 사용하였다. 본 계산에서는 작은 연소실 크기, 그리고 과산화수소 및 물의 큰 잠열 및 비열로 인하여 평균 액적 크기 변화에 따라 큰 성능의 차이를 나타냈으며, 평균 액적 크기가 30 micron인 경우 가장 좋은 추진성능을 보여주었다.

  • 미소 드랍릿 시편을 이용한 탄소섬유와 에폭시 수지 사이의 계면전단강도에 대해 시험분석하였다. 또한 드랍릿 모델, 원형 단면 모델, 인발모델의 3종류의 유한요소해석을 통해 섬유/수지간의 응력분포를 계산하였다. 본 연구결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 미소드랍릿 시험의 경우는 인발시험보다 섬유/수지의 계면에서 큰 응력집중이 나타났으며 계면박리가 낮은 하중수준에서도 발생하기 용이함을 알수 있었다. (2) 미소드랍릿시험에서 높은 계면강도를 보였는데, 이는 미소드랍릿의 형상과 사이즈, 바이스팁과 접촉하는 부위의 응력집중효과를 함께 받았기 때문으로 해석되었다.

  • Numerical study of a confined, swirling, isothermal and spray-combusting flows has been presented. The pressure-velocity coupling in the Eulerian gas-phase equation is handled by the improved PISO algorithm. The droplet dispersion by turbulence is introduced by a Stochastic Separated Flow(SSF) model. The k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model and the eddy dissipation model are employed to account for turbulence-combustion interaction. The detailed comparison with experimental data has been made for the isothermal jet swirling flows and the nearly monodisperse spray-combusting flow in the swirl combustor.

Polymer Films with Electrospray Deposition, model and experiment

  • Electrospray deposited films of poly(vinylidene fluoride) were prepared with various conditions. A model has been developed, which provides the state of the electrosprayed droplet at impact. With a combination of the experimental films and the model calculations, it can be shown that growth rate, the increase of the sprayed solution on the substrate per second, defines the film morphology in electrospray deposition. Growth rate indicates which factors play the main role in the film formation process. The most important factors are liquid flow, surface tension and shear rate. The model can calculate the shear rate and it is shown that PVDF, and most likely polymers in general, has a large range of growth rates, where the morphology only depends on the shear rate of the depositing droplet. This method can also be used to describe electrospray deposition of other compounds.

A Development of a Transient Hydrogen Generation Model for Metal-Water Interactions

  • A transient model for hydrogen generation in molten metal-water interactions was developed with separate models for two stages of coarse mixing and stratification. The model selves the mechanistic equations (heat and mass transfer correlation, heat conduction equation and the concentration diffusion equation) of each stage with non-zero boundary conditions. Using this model, numerical simulations were performed for single droplet experiments in the Argonne National Laboratory tests and for FITS tests that simulated dynamic fragmentation and stratification. The calculation results of hydrogen generation showed better agreement to the experiment data than those of previous works. It was found from the analyses that the steam concentration to be reached at the reaction front might be the main constraint to the extent of the metal droplet oxidized. Also, the hydrogen generation rate in the coarse mixing stage was the higher than that in the stratification stage. The particle size was the most important factor in the coarse mixing stage to predict the amount of hydrogen generation.

  • This paper addresses to the injection pressure effect on the diesel spray. The injection pressure is varied from 10MPa, in general system, upto 200MPa, in high pressured system in order to understand the effect. The gas phase is modelled in terms of the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction. The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form. The droplet distributions, vapor fractions and gas flows are analyzed in various injection pressure cases.
