Flow boiling of liquid nitrogen in narrow annular channels

  • Flow and heat transfer characteristics of liquid nitrogen in narrow annular channels are very important for many practical applications. In the present study, the experimental investigation of flow boiling of liquid nitrogen in narrow annular channels with gap size of 0.2 and 0.5 mm is carried out. The pressure drop and heat transfer coefficients are experimentally measured. The comparison of the theoretical models for the pressure drop and the correlations of the flow boiling to the experimental results are carried out.

Learning Less Random to Learn Better in Deep Reinforcement Learning with Noisy Parameters

  • In terms of deep Reinforcement Learning (RL), exploration can be worked stochastically in the action of a state space. On the other hands, exploitation can be done the proportion of well generalization behaviors. The balance of exploration and exploitation is extremely important for better results. The randomly selected action with ε-greedy for exploration has been regarded as a de facto method. There is an alternative method to add noise parameters into a neural network for richer exploration. However, it is not easy to predict or detect over-fitting with the stochastically exploration in the perturbed neural network. Moreover, the well-trained agents in RL do not necessarily prevent or detect over-fitting in the neural network. Therefore, we suggest a novel design of a deep RL by the balance of the exploration with drop-out to reduce over-fitting in the perturbed neural networks.

Pressure Drop due to Friction in Small Rectangular Channel (미소 사각 채널에서의 마찰 압력 강하)

  • An experimental study was carried out to measure frictional pressure drop in flow boiling to deionized water in a microchannel having a hydraulic diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Tests were performed in the ranges of heat fluxes from 100 to $400kW/m^2$, vapor qualities from 0 to 0.2 and mass fluxes of 200, 400 and $600kg/m^2s$. The frictional pressure drop during flow boiling is predicted by using two models; the homogeneous model that assumes equal phase velocity and the separate flow model that allows a slip velocity between two phases. From the experimental results, it is found that the two phase multiplier decreases with an increase in mass flux. Measured data of pressure drop are compared to a few available correlations proposed for macroscale and mini/microscale. The homogeneous model well predicted frictional pressure drop within MAE of 29.4 % for the test conditions considered in this work.

  • The CA (Control Assembly) of an SFR has a CRA(Control Rod Assembly) with an inner duct and control rod. During an emergency situation, the CRA falls into the duct of the CA for a rapid shut-down. The drop time and impact velocity of the CRA are important parameters with respect to the reactivity insertion time and the structural integrity of the CRA. The objective of this study was to investigate the dynamic behavior and integrity of the CRA owing to a drop impact. The impact analysis of the CRA under normal/abnormal drop conditions was carried out using the commercial FEM code LS-DYNA. Results of the drop impact analysis demonstrated that the CRA maintained structural integrity, and could be safely inserted into the flow hole of the damper under abnormal conditions.

  • Porous medium was considered in the present study for the heat transfer enhancement. This was attributed to its high surface area to volume ratio as well as intensive flow mixing by tortuous flow passages. But when the air or water flow through in the porous medium, it is occurred the pressure drop between inlet and outlet. So in the present study investigated simulation result about the pressure drop in the porous medium before apply to heat exchanger. In this simulation, the thickness of the solid inside the porous medium region was varied 0.2 mm to 0.4 mm. And then the simulation result were compared the pressure drop in the same unit cell ($0.5\;mm{\times}0.5\;mm{\times}0.5\;mm$). To make the analysis model, it was assumed the 14-sided tetrakaidecahedron cell which has long been considered the optimal packing cell first proposed by the Lord Kelvin in 1887. And then the simulation is carried out using by STAR-CCM+ which is commercial software. The simulation result can be showed quantified pressure drop by solid effect in the porous medium.

  • The analysis of the dynamic behavior of the packaging of a drum washing machine has been carried out under the drop impact conditions. LS-DYNA software is used for performing the finite element analysis, and the validations are performed by comparing with the impact acceleration, effective stress and deformation of cushioned package with high-speed camera during free drop test. By analyzing the cushion characteristics and the design parameters of the original packaging, a packaging with an improved design is developed, and this design is validated on the basis of the results of the distribution test which consists of drop test, vibration test, stacking test, squeez test and so on. The drop impact simulation and analysis methods developed in this study can be adopted to successfully improve the cushioning provided by the packaging and to reduce the cost involved in developing new packaging for drum washing machines.

Structure Improvement of Preaction Valve to Reduce the Pressure Drop (압력손실을 줄이기 위한 준비작동식 유수검지장치 본체 구조 개선)

  • The body structure of diaphragm type preaction valve was improved in order to reduce the pressure drop. The pressure drop must be kept within 20.7 kPa to pass the revised (2012. 2. 9) standard for alarm valve and preaction valve. The pressure drop test was carried out by KFI (Korea Fire Institute) standard. The pressure drop of a preaction valve was higher than that of an alarm valve. Causes for increasing the pressure drop were investigated with the fluid flow in the valve. The preaction valve had more pressure drop factors (changes in velocity and direction) compared with the alarm valve. Inner structure of the preaction valve was changed to the clapper type to remove the pressure drop factors. In 80A and 100A size of preaction valves, the pressure drop was reduced from 80.9 and 171.0 kPa to 14.4 and 14.2 kPa respectively, after the change of the structure.

  • Ink-jet is part of the non impact printing that shooting the ink drop from the nozzle to paper. It is very silence and express good color. There are two types of printing that continuous and drop on demand. But drop on demand process is becoming the mainstream. these days, LCD, PDP is passed more than semiconductor industry. And we expect organic EL, FED as a next display. But product equipment, main component and technology have a gap between an advanced country and us nevertheless physical development. Expecially, previous process part is depended on imports. Ink-jet printing technology that there isn't complicated photo lithography process is attracted, so ink-jet printing resolution is more embossed. But there were not many of ink-jet resolution thesis but ink-jet head or nozzle. Because, to out of the ink from the nozzle is unseeable and hard to experiment. Therefore this thesis was experimented and simulated how can ink-jet printer improved resolution by flow-3d simulation package program.

Investigation of Characteristics of Electrostatic Bag Filter with Discharge Electrode Shapes and Filter Properties (방전극 형상 및 여과재에 따른 정전 여과집진장치특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the characteristics of electrostatic bag filter to overcome the main problems such as the high pressure drop and low collection efficiency for submicron particles are investigated with the experimental parameters. Especially, the experiment is carried out focusing on collection efficiency and pressure drop change mechanism as a function of discharge electrode shapes and filter properties, including the applied voltages, filtration velocities and particle concentrations, etc . Results show that the collection efficiency is improved over 30% for the fine particle below 1 pm and pressure drop reduction ratio (PDRR) increases in the following order 4 mm screwy > 4 mm square > 4mm round discharge electrodes . For the filter properties, Nomex is more effective than PE under the influence of electrostatic force. Applying 30 kV for a screwy discharge electrode, higher overall collection efficiency is maintained in spite of the increment of filtration velocity over four times (8 m/min) in comparison with that of 2 m/min and PDRR are highly shown over 80o1o with various filtration velocities, 5, 8, 11 m/min.
