The flood water level in tidal river is determined by the joint effects of flood discharge and tidal water levels at downstream boundary. Due to the variable tidal boundary conditions, the evaluated design water levels associated with a certain flood event can be significantly different. To avoid determining of design water levels just by a certain tidal boundary condition and remove the influence of variability in boundary condition from the evaluation of design water levels, a probabilistic approach is considered in this study. This study focuses on the development of a method to evaluate the realistic design water levels in tidal river with taking into account the combined effects of river discharge and tidal level. The flood water levels are described by the joint probability of two driving forces, river discharge and tidal water levels. The developed method is applied to determine design water levels for the tidal reach of the Han River. An unsteady flow model is used to simulate the flow in the reach. To determine design water levels associated with a certain flood event, first, possible boundary conditions are obtained by sampling starting times of tidal level time series; then for each tidal boundary condition, corresponding peak water levels along the channel are computed; and finally, design water levels are determined by computing the expectations of the peak water levels. Two types of tides which are composed by different constituents are assumed (one is composed by $M_2$, and the other one is composed by $M_2$ and $M_2$) at downstream boundary, and two flood events with different maximum flood discharges are considered in this study. It is found that (a) the computed design water levels with two assumed tides have no significant difference for a certain flood event, though variability of peak water levels due to the tidal effect is considerably different; (b) tidal effect can reach to the Jamsil submerged weir and the effect is obvious in the downstream reach of the Singok submerged weir; (c) in the tidally affected reach, the variability of peak water levels due to the tidal effect is greater if the maximum flood discharge is smaller.
Examination of the concurrent evolution of communication tools and eating behaviors over recent decades reveals that social media and other forms of digital content have become powerful new driving forces for nutritional choices and food consumption. The purpose of this research was to examine the effect between goal orientation of message (promotion versus prevention) and the type of message (text versus image) on effectiveness of the message. The findings showed that individuals exposed to a promotion-focused message similarly responded to the message regardless of the type of the message. By contrast, those who exposed to a prevention-focused message showed significantly more positive responses to the message posted on the text-based social media than the message on the image-based social media. The findings indicated that, if presented effectively, social media could be harnessed to promote healthier eating habits and behaviors, prevent those which can be harmful, and ultimately improve an individual's daily food consumption and overall quality of life.

Mobile games have become one of the most important driving forces of the game industry. We focus on the continuous intention to use Chinese mobile games from the perspective of experiential marketing and network externalities. We integrate user experience, network externalities and flow theory into expectation confirmation model and explore the influencing factors of continuous usage intention of Chinese mobile game and propose a research model. Game experience, service experience, perceived enjoyment, social interaction, challenge, perceived number of users and perceived number of peers were employed as independent variables, while flow, perceived value and satisfaction as mediating variables and continuous intention as the dependent variable. After surveying 426 samples, the model is tested with structural equation model. The results reveal that perceived enjoyment significantly positively influences perceived value, flow, satisfaction, and continuous intention. The greater the enjoyment of the game, the greater the satisfaction of the game and the greater the willingness to use it continuously. Game experience has a significant direct effect on continuous intention, which indicates that a better game experience can retain more users. Service experience and perceive number of peers positively influence satisfaction. Another finding is that social interaction and perceived number of users positively influence perceived value and flow, which indicate that social attributes are critical roles for retaining users. Game challenge also positively influences flow. The proper level of challenge is more likely to cause users to enter the state of flow. Flow indirectly influences continuous usage intention through the satisfaction of the game, which indicates that satisfaction is driven by flow experience and further retaining users. Empirical results implied that mobile game companies need to focus on improving user experience, expectation satisfaction and extending network externalities to improve the continuous intention of using mobile game.
Plant RNA viruses are one of the most destructive pathogens that cause a significant loss in crop production worldwide. They have evolved with high genetic diversity and adaptability due to the short replication cycle and high mutation rate during genome replication, which are characteristics of RNA viruses. Plant RNA viruses exist as quasispecies with high genetic diversity; thereby, a rapid population transition with new fitness can occur due to selective pressure resulting from environmental changes. Plant resistance can act as selective pressure and affect the fitness of the virus, which may lead to the emergence of resistance-breaking variants. In this paper, we introduced the evolutionary perspectives of plant RNA viruses and the driving forces in their evolution. Based on this, we discussed the mechanism of the emergence of variant viruses that overcome plant resistance. In addition, strategies for deploying plant resistance to viral diseases and improving resistance durability were discussed.

Background: Within the framework of the new Saudi Vision 2030, the education system is keen on developing Early Childhood (EC) curricula to meet the needs of children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, in addition to preparing teachers to be the main driving forces in this field. To achieve these strategic goals, the professional development of teachers has taken the lead in terms of their continuous professional achievements. Purpose: The recent study tended to explore the promotion of Cultural and Linguistic Competence (CLC) of teachers in preschool institutions in different sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) include public, private and international. Method: In the current study, (n=300) of preschool female teachers, who had experience teaching children from diverse language and cultural backgrounds, participated voluntarily by filling out the exploratory questionnaire. It was designed on a five-point Likert scale. The credibility of the scale and the validity of the questionnaire were ascertained, and the content for which it was designed verified in terms of the purposes of the current investigation. Results: The results revealed that preschool female teachers in the private preschool settings have a higher level of CLC compared to those who were teaching in public and international preschools in KSA. In the private sector, preschool female teachers showed create abilities to provide culturally responsive environments for diverse students, applying various communication styles, and showing proper attitudes and values toward diversity. Implication: The current study provided key implications for policy makers regarding the promotion of CLC for all teachers, particularly preschool in government settings in KSA. It contributed to revealing the cultural awareness of preschool teachers' values and attitudes toward diversity.
Due to increased competition in supply side to reduce operational costs, port professionals have experienced extreme pressure, which demanded academicians to develop the model for efficient port operations from the industry perspective. Among many ports in the world, U.S. ports are our primary interest to analyze in our study for its high volume of cargoes transacted in the U.S. ports. We primarily employed DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) technique to research the productivity of U.S. ports and applied the algorithm of double bootstrapped DEA proposed by Simar & Wilson (2007) to further investigate the driving forces of the performance of U.S. port operations. The external variables employed in our study comprise onDock Rail, Channel Depth, Location, Area, Acres, ForeignCargoRatio, and TEUChange, out of which onDock Rail, Acres, ForeignCargoRatio, and TEUChange were significant. In order to evaluate the effects of methodology selection, we conducted the same analysis applying the Censored model (Tobit) and contrasted the outcomes drawn from the two different techniques. Based on the findings from this work we proposed managerial implications and concluded.
Tropical cyclones frequently occur in the Southwest Pacific Ocean and are considered one of the driving forces for coastal alterations. Therefore, this study investigates the frequency and intensity of tropical cyclonesfrom 2000 to 2021 and their influence on the surface winds and wave conditions around the atoll nation Tuvalu. Cyclone best-track and ERA5 single-level reanalysis data are utilized to analyze the condition of the surface winds, significant wave heights, mean wave direction, and mean wave period. Additionally, the scatterometer-derived wind information was employed to compare wind conditions with the ERA5 data. On average, nine cyclones per year originated here, and the frequency increased to 11 cyclones during the last three years while the intensity decreased by 25 m/s (maximum sustained wind speed). Besides, a total of 14 cyclones were observed around Tuvalu during the period from 2015 to 2021, which showed an increase of 3 cyclones compared to the preceding period of 2001 to 2007. During cyclones, the significant wave height reached the highest 4.8 m near Tuvalu, and the waves propagated in the east-southeast direction during most of the cyclone events (52%). In addition, prolonged swells with a mean wave period of 7 to 11 seconds were generated in the vicinity of Tuvalu, for which coastal alteration can occur. After this preliminary analysis, it was found that the waves generated by cyclones have a crucial impact in altering the coastal area of Tuvalu. In the future, remotely sensed high-resolution satellite data with this wave information will be used to find out the degree of alterations that happened in the coastal area of Tuvalu before and after the cyclone events.
With the main player of international competition being changed from country to region/city, city competitiveness is emerging as driving forces of industrial and national competitiveness and organizations formed on a city level are regarded as the main unit of competition among nations. This paper's goal is to research upon the city competitiveness with an emphasis on the analytical tool applying IPS Model of city competitiveness to 75 Korean cities and to map out the strategies to enhance the Chuncheon city's competitiveness based on the results of the evaluation on Chuncheon city's current and future competitiveness with focus on the impact of the city's hosting World Leisure Congress and World Leisure Games in 2010. By discussing city's future competitiveness as well as its current strength at the same time, the more comprehensive perspective required in reinforcing city competitiveness is proposed in this paper and issues related to a city's context and policy can be evaluated and their solutions can be sought after. The study can also contribute to the establishment of city's development policies and detect sustainable growth power for individual cities.
Motivation and activities for technological learning, entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity are driving forces of economic development in Asian countries. In the early stages of technological development, technological learning and entrepreneurship are efficient ways in which to catch up with advanced countries because firms can accumulate skills and knowledge quickly at relatively low risk. In the later stages of technological development, however, innovation and creativity become more important. This study aims to identify a) the factors (learning capabilities) that influence technological learning performance and b) barriers to enhancing innovation capabilities for the creative economy and organizations. The major part of this study is related to learning capabilities in the post-catch-up era. Based on a literature review and observations from Korean experiences, this study proposes a technological learning model composed of various influencing factors on technological learning. Three hypotheses are derived, and data are collected from Korean machine tool manufacturers. Intense interviews with CEOs and R&D directors are conducted using structured questionnaires. Statistical analysis, such as correlation and ANOVA are then carried out. Furthermore, this study addresses how to enhance innovation capabilities to move forward. Innovation enablers and barriers are identified by case studies and policy analysis. The results of the empirical study identify several levels of firms' learning capabilities and activities such as a) stock of technology, b) potential of technical labor, c) explicit technological efforts, d) readiness to learn, e) top management support, f) a formal technological learning system, g) high learning motivation, h) appropriate technology choice, and i) specific goal setting. These learning capabilities determine firms' learning performance, especially in the early stages of development. Furthermore, it is found that the critical factors for successful technological learning vary along the stages of technology development. Throughout the statistical and policy analyses, this study confirms that technological learning can be understood as an intrinsic principle of the technology development process. Firms perform proactive and creative learning in the late stages, while reactive and imitative learning prevails in the early stages. In addition, this study identifies the driving forces or facilitating factors enhancing innovation performance in the post catch-up era. The results of the preliminary case studies and policy analysis show some facilitating factors such as a) the strategic intent of the CEO and corporate culture, b) leadership and change agents, c) design principles and routines, d) ecosystem and collaboration with partners, and e) intensive R&D investment.
