Recently, the certification procedure for exhaust emission regulation of LDV has tested with the NEDC mode in the laboratory. But the on-road exhaust emissions exceed the standard emission limits. Therefore, it is important to analyze the real-driving emissions (RDE) with a portable emissions measurement system (PEMS). In present study, the on-road emissions were measured with a PEMS and evaluated by moving averaging window (MAW) method. Also, it was compared with the $CO_2$ and $NO_x$ emissions for real-driving and test modes from euro-6 light-duty vehicles equipped with SCR and LNT systems. In results, on-road $NO_x$ emission has been 2.3-10.0 times higher than the standard $NO_x$ emission limit on NEDC mode. The reason was that the test modes did not reflect traffic and various real-driving patterns sufficiently.
To reduce backpressure for improving engine power in exhaust system, a large difference of pressure is required, but this is in conflict with the requirement for reducing exhaust noise that needs a small pressure difference. In this paper, the controllable muffler designed by simplifying the structure of the exhaust system has a low backpressure and a proper sound specification to the rotation of engine. The exhaust system in conventional studies has been designed to have maximum noise reduction over the whole driving domain, but due to its complex structure this led to increased backpressure. If the muffler is designed according to the driving frequency, which is a dominant noise component in stationary driving speed, the backpressure is reduced due to the simplified structure of the muffler. Furthermore, a multi-mode muffler able to change structure with varied driving speed was designed.
Nowadays it has been strongly required to control emissions from vehicles specially in diesel engines because of increasing number of vehicle in korea. This research aims to provide with some of deterioration factors on vehicles for emissions characteristics and the test was done on an electronically controlled heavy-duty diesel engine under severe driving conditions such as 1200 driving hours, 220,000 km driving distance and a full load. Under various driving conditions, CO, HC, $NO_{x}$, PM and Soots emissions were estimated under D-13 mode and D-3 mode respectively. CO emission was not changed until 500 running hours, and as engine aging is progressed THC was not changed until 500 running hours but it decreased to about $33\%,\;NO_{x}$ decreased constantly but on the other hand PM increased up to $6.9\%$ during the aging process.

We propose new driving schemes, asymmetry and long gap mode, of PDP having auxiliary electrode between scan and common electrode. For the asymmetric modes, the auxiliary electrode located nearly center of the primary electrodes is connected to the scan of common electrode during all periods of reset, address and sustain. For the long gap mode, it is electrically disconnected or maintained at dc voltage of Vs/2 during sustain period except the first several sustain pulses. The proposed structure and driving method can provide higher luminous efficacy by minimizing consumption energy. The effectiveness of the new driving schemes has been investigated for various Xe partial pressure conditions.
A gasoline injector rig which can measure cumulative injected fuel mass under a vehicle driving condition was developed. The measurement system consists of an engine control unit (ECU), data acquisition (DAQ) and injected fuel collection system using loadcells. By supplying reconstructed sensor signals which simulate the real vehicle's sensor signals to the ECU, the ECU drives injectors as if they were driven in the vehicle. The vehicle's performance was computer simulated by using $GT-Suite^{(R)}$ software based on both engine part load performance and automatic transmission shift map. Throttle valve position, engine and vehicle speed, air mass flow rate et al. were computer simulated. The used vehicle driving pattern for the simulation was FTP-75 mode. For reconstructing the real vehicle sensor signals which are correspondent to the $GT-Suite^{(R)}$ simulated vehicle's performance, the DAQ systems were used. The injected fuel was collected with mess cylinders. The collected fuel mass in the mess cylinder with elapsed time after starting FTP-75 driving mode was measured using loadcells. The developed method shows highly improved performance in fast timing and accuracy of the cumulative injected fuel mass measurement under the vehicle driven condition.
This research is about the exhaust gas and driving performance test which are for CNG-Diesel dual fuel engine. The CNG-Diesel dual fuel engine converted from 2500cc diesel has two steps of injection systems; small amount of diesel is injected to mixture CNG in cylinder to ignite before CNG is injected into each intake manifold to form mixture. The amounts of output power and emission in duel fuel consumption were measured by engine dynamometer and exhaust gas analyzer. Over 90% of diesel consumption reduction, similar driving performance to current diesel engine and reduced emission on $CO_2$ and PM, respectively, were indicated through the measurements. The two steps of system were applied to vehicle to investigate exhaust gas characteristics and driving performance via NEDC mode and real driving test. Additional oxidation catalyst was applied to reduce emission on the test vehicle and the NEDC mode test showed the reduction of Co, $CO_2$, Pm and THC.
Recently, emission tests for heavy-duty vehicles have been conducted by heavy-duty engine dynamometer. But, it contains weaknesses that present inconveniences to install and uninstall engines and limitations to reflect on practical characteristics for vehicle driving. On the other hand, chassis dynamometer test is able to differentiate characteristics of real driving patterns due to the reason that vehicles can be examined by utilizing chassis dynamometer. This study aimed at comparing the characteristic of emitting regulatory substances of urban buses on Heavy-duty chassis dynamometer. The characteristic was analyzed based on vehicle speed by using both domestic and overseas developed heavy-duty vehicle test modes. As a result, this work attempted to investigate possibilities to take advantage of Heavy-duty vehicle test modes as a method to manage emissions from heavy-duty vehicles.
This paper presents a new approach to control of stable motion of single wheel driving robot system of a pitch that is controlled by an in-wheel motor and a roll that is controlled by a reaction wheel. This robot doesn'thave any actuator for a yaw axis control, which makes the derivation of the dynamics relatively simple. The Lagrange equations was applied to derive the dynamic equations of the one wheel driving robot to implement the dynamic speed control of the mobile robot. To achieve the real time speed control of the unicycle robot, the sliding mode control and optical regulator are utilized to prove the reliability while maintaining the desired speed tracking performance. In the roll controller, the sigmoid-function based robust controller has been adopted to reduce the vibration by the situation function. The optimal controller has been implemented for the pitch control to drive the unicycle robot to follow the desired velocity trajectory in real time using the state variables of pitch angle, angular velocity, angle and angular velocity of the driving wheel. The control performance of the control systems from a single dynamic model has been illustrated by the real experiments.
In Korea, sales of passenger cars using diesel and LPG fuels were continuously increased in recent years. From now on 2030, the registrated vehicles will close in about twenty five million in Korea. From these reason, Investigation on the comparison of exhaust emission characteristics of passenger cars using LPG and Diesel fuel in variation of driving mode and ambient conditions were conducted in this study. Exhaust emission characteristics of test vehicles were measured and analyzed by using chassis dynamometer and emission analyzer. Also, test vehicles were selected on the diesel vehicle with 1.7L engine and LPG vehicle with 2.0L engine. In order to study on emission characteristics according to driving cycles, CVS-75, NEDC, US06, SC03, Cold-FTP and HWFET were applied and the test conditions were set up the cases of A/C on and hot start. From these results, it is revealed that the NOx emission of diesel vehicle was higher than that of LPG vehicle and the case of CO emission shows the opposite patterns. In the HC emission, the emission increasing patterns not showed but the NOx emission of diesel vehicle and CO emission of LPG vehicle were showed the variation patterns according to the various driving modes.
48-V ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) system has attracted attention to improve the fuel efficiency of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle. One of the key components that significantly affects the cost and performance of the 48-V ISG system is the motor. In an ISG motor, the core and copper loss make the motor efficiency change because the motor has a broad driving operated range and more diverse driving modes compared with other motors. When designing an ISG motor, the selection of an electrical steel sheet is important, because the electrical steel sheet directly influences the efficiency of the motor. In this paper, the efficiency of the ISG motor, considering core loss and copper loss, is analyzed by testing different types of electrical steel sheets with respect to the driving speed range and mode. Using the results of a finite element method (FEM) analysis, a method to select the electrical steel sheet is proposed. This method considers the cost of the steel sheet and the efficiency according to driving mode frequency during the design process of the motor. A wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) was applied to the ISG motor in this study.
