Fundamental Research on Developing Additional Information System by Connecting Route Guidance Information with Turn Signal Operation (경로유도정보와 방향지시등을 연동한 추가정보 제공 시스템 개발의 기초 연구)

  • A car navigation system as an in-vehicle route guidance information (RGI) offers a state-of-the-art technological solution to driver navigation in an unfamiliar area. However, the RGI is provided by some pre-determined options in terms of the interface between a driver and a car navigation system. Drivers occasionally pass the target intersection owing to non- or late- recognizing it. This paper is examined the position of driver's turn signal operation and intersection recognition approaching at the target intersection which is difficult to identify, as a fundamental research on developing the additional RGI connecting with the turn signal control. The field experiment was conducted to measure distances of the turn signal operation and the intersection recognition from the target intersection according to left turns, right turns, and landmarks at adjacent intersection. And glance behavior to the car navigation display was evaluated by using an eye camera. The results of the field study indicate that, most case of driving, drivers operate the turn signal until 40m to 50m before coming to the target intersection. The driving simulator experiment was performed to examine the effectiveness of providing the additional RGI when drivers did not operate the turn signal approaching at the target intersection based on the results of the field study. To provide the additional RGI is effective for the intersection identification and recognition, and expected to improve the traffic safety and the comfort for drivers.

  • In this paper, a new lateral offset estimation method, based on image processing techniques, is proposed for driver assistant system. A new description on lane markings in the image plane is presented, and its properties are discussed and used to detect lane markings. Multi-frame lane detection and analysis are adopted to improve the proposed lateral control method. An algorithm for obstacle detection is also developed. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs lateral control effectively.

However, the RGI is provided by a pre-determined option, drivers occasionally pass the target intersection owing to non- or late- recognizing it. The purpose of this experiment is to examine the position of driver's tum signal operation and intersection recognition approaching at the target intersection which is difficult to identify as a preliminary research on developing the additional RGI connecting with the tum signal control. The field experiment was conducted to measure distances of the turn signal operation and intersection recognition from the target intersection according to driving lanes and landmarks at adjacent intersection. And, glance behavior to the car navigation display was evaluated by using an eye camera. The results indicate that drivers operate the turn signal after confirming a landmark in the case of the intersection with it. However, most case of driving, drivers operate the tum signal at 40 to 50m before coming to the target. To provide the additional RGI, when drivers do not operate the tum signal approaching at the target intersection based on the results, is expected to improve the traffic safety and the comfort for drivers.

  • Emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) often have image transmission functions with tough constraints, like low power and/or low delay, which require that they adopt line-based, low memory compression methods instead of existing frame-based image compression standards. Bit rate control in the conventional frame-based compression systems requires a lot of hardware resources when the scope of handled data falls at the frame level. On the other hand, attempts to reduce the heavy hardware resource requirement by focusing on line-level processing yield uneven image quality through the frame. In this paper, we propose a bit rate control that maintains consistency in image quality through the frame and improves the legibility of text regions. To find the line characteristics, the proposed bit rate control tests each line for ease of compression and the existence of text. Experiments on the proposed bit rate control show peak signal-to-noise ratios (PSNRs) similar to those of conventional bit rate controls, but with the use of significantly fewer hardware resources.

  • In recent days, vehicles have become equipped with electric systems that assist and help drivers driving safe by reducing possible accidents. LDWS(Lane Departure Warning System) and LKAS(Lane Keeping Assistant System) are involved in assist systems, especially for lateral motion of vehicles. Sudden and inattentive lateral motion of vehicles due to drivers' fatigue, illness, inattention, and drowsiness are major causes of accidents in highway. LDWS and LKAS provide drivers with warnings or assisting power to reduce any possibilities of accidents. In order to prevent or minimize the possibilities of accidents, lateral motion control of vehicles has been introduced in this research. DGPS/RTK(Differential Global Positioning System/Real Time Kinematics) and GIS(Geographic Information System) have been used to obtain the current position of vehicles and decide when activate controlling lateral motion of vehicles. The presented lateral motion control has been validated with actual vehicle tests.

As the part of Ubiquitous Technology for visualization, Mixed Reality has been adopted in this paper. Augmented reality, a part of mixed reality, could show the mixed real world, overlapping virtual objects. Therefore, it is more realistic than virtual reality that all generated by computer and it is very useful for displaying information. For this reason, we tried to apply augmented reality to inspect marine structure and we developed the inspection assistance system based on mixed reality

  • Dedicated Short Range Communications(DSRC) is a block of spectrum in the 5.8GHz band. DSRC is the useful technology of ITS Service. Japan operates ETCS, VICS by DSRC technology and DSRC technology is used ETCS Standard in Korea. There are many kind of utilization of DSRC in ITS. This is a study for traffic information service and collection with DSRC. Traffic management server service traffic information to driving vehicle by RSE(Road Side Equipment). OBU(Onboard Unit) in vehicle send the information to PDA(Personal Digital Assistant). Client S/W show the information to driver by text, pictogram, sound and return PDA H/W ID to OBU. Server make section traffic information by the PDA H/W ID information.

Design and Implementation of Multi Exposure Smart Vehicular Camera Applying Auto Exposure Control Algorithm Based on Region of Interest (관심 영역 기반의 자동 노출 조절 알고리즘을 적용한 다중 노출 차량용 스마트 카메라의 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently, many researches are carried out for Advanced Driver Assistant Systems(ADAS). Especially, many studies are carried out to analyze the road situation using road images. In order to improve the performance of the road situation analysis, it is necessary to acquire images with appropriate exposure time. In this paper, we design and implement multi exposure smart vehicular camera which provides road traffic information to driver. Proposed device can acquire road traffic information by on-board camera and various sensors. And we propose an auto exposure control algorithm for the road environment to increase accuracy of image recognition. In addition, we also propose the switching ROI method that apply existing ROI techniques to overcome a limited computation power of embedded devices. We developed prototype of multi exposure smart vehicular camera and performed experiments to evaluate proposed auto exposure control algorithm and switching ROI method. The results show that the average accuracy of image recognition increased by 13.45%.

KANO-TOPSIS Model for AI Based New Product Development: Focusing on the Case of Developing Voice Assistant System for Vehicles (KANO-TOPSIS 모델을 이용한 지능형 신제품 개발: 차량용 음성비서 시스템 개발 사례)

  • Companies' interest in developing AI-based intelligent new products is increasing. Recently, the main concern of companies is to innovate customer experience and create new values by developing new products through the effective use of Artificial intelligence technology. However, due to the nature of products based on radical technologies such as artificial intelligence, intelligent products differ from existing products and development methods, so it is clear that there is a limitation to applying the existing development methodology as it is. This study proposes a new research method based on KANO-TOPSIS for the successful development of AI-based intelligent new products by using car voice assistants as an example. Using the KANO model, select and evaluate functions that customers think are necessary for new products, and use the TOPSIS method to derives priorities by finding the importance of functions that customers need. For the analysis, major categories such as vehicle condition check and function control elements, driving-related elements, characteristics of voice assistant itself, infotainment elements, and daily life support elements were selected and customer demand attributes were subdivided. As a result of the analysis, high recognition accuracy should be considered as a top priority in the development of car voice assistants. Infotainment elements that provide customized content based on driver's biometric information and usage habits showed lower priorities than expected, while functions related to driver safety such as vehicle condition notification, driving assistance, and security, also showed as the functions that should be developed preferentially. This study is meaningful in that it presented a new product development methodology suitable for the characteristics of AI-based intelligent new products with innovative characteristics through an excellent model combining KANO and TOPSIS.

Design for Safety System get On or Off the Kindergarten Bus using User Authentication based on Deep-learning (딥러닝 기반의 사용자인증을 활용한 어린이 버스에서 안전한 승차 및 하차 시스템 설계)

  • Recently, many safety accidents involving children shuttle buses take place. Without a teacher for help, a safety accident occurs when the driver can't see a child who is getting off in the blind spot of both frontside and backside. A deep learning-based smart mirror allows user authentication and provides various services. Especially, It can be a role of helper for children, and prevent accidents that can occur when drivers or assistant teachers do not see them. User authentication is carried out with children's face registered in advance. Safety accidents can be prevented by an approximate sensor and a camera in frontside and backside of the bus. This study suggests a way of checking out whether children are missed in the process of getting in and out of the bus, designs a system that reduce blind spots in the front and back of the vehicle, and builds a safety system that provide various services using GPS.
