Korean Streamflow Patterns In Relation To EI NiNO/Southern Oscillation

  • Streamflow patterns at two gauging stations in Korea, An-Dong dam and Chung-Ju dam, are statistically analyzed in relation to EI Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). As a measure of ENSO, the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) is used on a monthly and seasonal basis. The traditional correlation analysis shows that cross correlations of the SOI with the seasonal streamflow are generally weak. To investigate the relationship between the extreme values of the SOI, which represent the EI Nino and La Nina events, and the corresponding streamflow patterns, the composite analysis is employed in this study. The composite analysis demonstrates that when EI Nino occurs, seasonal streamflows at An-Dong and Chung-Ju dams during the period from September of the EI Nino year to February of the following year appear to be drier than their means.

  • The system performance of an automobile air conditioning system with variations of charging conditions has been investigated experimentally. An automobile air conditioning system was composed of laminated type evaporator, parallel flow type condenser, swash plate type com-pressor, externally equalized thermostatic expansion valve and receiver drier. The objective of this study was to quantify the influence of the refrigerant charge under the steady state operation of an automobile air conditioning system. The results indicated that a 10% undercharge caused a 10% reduction in the capacity of evaporator.

京畿道 彭城地域의 土炭의 花紛分析 (A Pollen Analysis on the Peat of Paengsung Area, Kyonggi-do)

  • Pollen analysis on a 320cm core collected from paengsung area (36°56′50"N, 127°03′10"E) in southwesterm korea was carried out to investigate the changes in past climate and vegetation in that area. In this research it was found that pollen zones are divided into two layers of substage IIb and IIc. Pollen zone IIb, the lower layer, was dominated by high percentages of deciduous broadleaved trees such as alnus, Quercus, Corylus, Betula, Carpinus and Salix. Trapa, Typhaceae and Nymphaceae growing in wet habitat and Chenpodiaceae were pornounced amont the nonrboreal pollens. At that time, it seems that it was warmer and more humid than present. In pollen zone IIc, the upper layer, pollen of Pinun was dominant and those of Artemisia, Gramineae, Compositae, Cyperaceae and spore increased while of Quercus, Betula and Nymphaceae decreased. It is supposed that the climate of this zone was drier that the lower laywer.

  • The aim of the work descrihed in this paper is to study a characteristics of an unsaturated soil for the different matric suctions. To this end, a series of suction controlled isotropic and triaxial compression tests is conducted on silty sands. Matric suction is controlled by the axis translation technique using high air entry ceramic disk. Total volume change, air and water volume changes are measured by the device made for the experiment. The specimens are compacted using a half of Proctor compaction energy and with the water contents of 5% drier than the optimum moisture contents. Isotropic compression and triaxial compression tests are conducted on the specimen at each equilibrium state of matric suction. From test results, volume changes and deviator stresses are analyzed at each state and their relationships are formulated.

  • A computer simulation for the performance analysis of automobile air conditioning components is carried out for the various operating conditions. The automobile air conditioning system consists of laminated type evaporator, swash plate type compressor, parallel flow type condenser, externally equalized thermostatic expansion valve and receiver drier. The overall heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop in laminated type evaporator were obtained through experiments. In parallel flow type condenser, the performance analysis computer program using the empirical equation for heat transfer coefficient has been developed and the results are compared with experimental results. A model for matching the performance analysis programs of respective components .of automobile air conditioning system is introduced. Further, the effects of varying condenser size and refrigerant charge on the performance of automobile air conditioning system are discussed clearly.

  • Surveillance Radar System for naval vessels is a primary core sensor for command and fire control, and provides CFCS(Command and Fire Control System) information for 3-D surveillance and fire control. It's composed of Antenna, Transmitter/Receiver, Signal Processor, and Air drier, which are installed on and under deck. They should be designed and produced in order to endure at any operating circumstances. This paper analyzes load of a driving part for driving the antenna considering factors under external operating circumstances, and proposes a condition of load for maintaining fixed RPM through analyzing internal load of the driving part, and how to reduce the load to meet the condition. This paper is verified through experimental studies.

千里浦 樹木園의 泥炭의 花紛分析 (A Pollen Analytical Study of the Peat Sediments from the Chollipo Arboretum in Southwestern, Korea)

  • This paper deals with pollen analysis of a 190cm core collected from the Chollipo Arboretum sedimentary basin($N36^{\circ}47$ 43", $E1269^{\circ}$ 7") in southwestern Korea in order to know the change of the climate and vegetation. In this research it is found that the pollen zones are divided into two layers. Pollen zone, I, the lower layer, is flourished with broadleaved trees such as Quercus, Alnus, Corylus, Betula, Carpinus and Castanopsis, and about 30~40% of pollen of those trees consist of that of Q. acuta/glauca and Castanopsis which are evergreen trees. And pollen of Trapa, Typhaceae and Nymphaceae living in wet habitat, is dominant among the nonarboreal pollen. Therefore we can conclude that it ould be warmer and more humid than present in this area of the past. In pollen zone, the upper layer, pollen of Pinus is dominant and those of Artemisia, Gramineae, Compositae and spore are increased in quantity, while pollen of Quercus, Belula and Nymphaceae decreased. It it supposed that the climate of this zone was drier than that zone.that zone.

국민주택 규모 아파트의 발코니 이용실태에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Actual Condition on the Utilization of Apartment Balcony in Economically Sized Housings)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the current problems of using balcony in apartment. For this study, 255 subjects who are resided in economically sized apartment housings were selected. The major results of this study were ; 1) The front balcony was used as arrangement space a laundry drier and a flowerpot table. On the other hand, the rear balcony was used as storage space for a kind of washing powder and receptacle, kim-chi jar and storage container for food etc. 2) The most dissatisfactory respect on the balcony is the width of space. 3) The shelves were often used as storage facilities.

Development of a Low-cost Solar Fish Dryer in Context to Fish Drying in Bangladesh

  • The constraints of traditional fish drying in Bangladesh have been reviewed and an effective solar fish dryer was developed with the small-scale processors and fishermen using locally available cheaper materials in order to dry fish in coastal region. After successful field testing, new solar dryer was demonstrated within the community in 3 different locations of Cox's Bazar for several batches of operations in each location from late September to March and found very effective in terms of architectural suitability, operational feasibility, technical efficiency, out-put quality (good texture, colour, flavour and long storage time), user's acceptability, commercial viability and environmental adequacy. A simple cost-profit analysis was done with the community operated products, which indicates that the new solar fish dryers could be operated profitably in coastal regions where sun-light and air flows are abundant.

바닥 난방을 사용하는 주택내 거실 온열 환경의 한일비교 (Comparison of Thermal Environment in Livingroom between Korea and Japan)

  • In this paper, we compared the thermal environment in the livingroom with panel heating system of Korea and Japan. The houses are two apartments and two single houses in Korea, and two apartments in Japan. The outdoor temperatures, indoor air temperatures, surface temperatures on floor and humidities were measured. The survey to the residents and recording of operation were also collected. The results were as follows.1. The Korean houses are warmer and drier(approximately 23$^{\circ}$C, 38%) than those of Japan.(approximately 20$^{\circ}$C, 57%). And indoor temperaures of Korean apartment are stabie. 2.The residents in Japan put on and off the switches of the heating system frequently.
