  • In this study, three-dimensional information of submarine topography acquired by assembling DGPS method and echo sounder which mainly used in the marine survey. Moreover, the hopper dredging capacity in harbor public affair has been calculated by utilizing kriging, radial basis function and nearest neighbor interpolation. Also, utilization of DGPS/Echo sounder method in calculation of the dredging capacity have been confirmed by comparing and analyzing the hopper dredging capacity and the actual one as per each interpolation. According to this comparison result, in case of applying kriging interpolation, some 1.89% of error rate has been shown as difference of the contents is 15,364 ㎥ and in case of applying radial basis function interpolation and nearest neighbor interpolation, 3.9% and 4.4% of error rates have respectively shown. In case the study for application of the proper interpolation as per characteristics of submarine topography, is preceded in calculation of the dredging capacity relevant to harbor public affairs, it is expected that more speedy and correct calculation for the dredging capacity can be made.

  • Three-dimensional information of submarine topography was acquired by assembling DGPS and Echo Sounder, which is mainly used in the marine survey. However, the features of submarine topography, derived according to mechanical data, were confirmed using human eyes. Because the dredging capacity using a submarine surveying data influences harbor public affairs, analysis and the process method of surveying data is a very special element in construction costs. In this study, information on submarine topography is acquired by assembling DGPS and Echo Sounder. Moreover, the dredging capacity in harbor public affairs has been analyzed by the interpolation method: inverse distance to a power, kriging, minimum curvature, nearest neighbor, and radial basis function. Also, utilization of DGPS and Echo Sounder method in calculation of the dredging capacity have been confirmed by comparing and analyzing the dredging capacity and the actual one, as per each interpolation. According to this comparison result, in the case of applying Radial basis function interpolation and Kriging, 3.94 % and 4.61 % of error rates have been shown, respectively. In the case of the study for application of the proper interpolation, as per characteristics of submarine topography, is preceded in calculation of the dredging capacity relevant to harbor public affairs, it is expected that more speedy and correct calculation for the dredging capacity can be made.

  • Sea gives us a lot of benefits and one of them is a role of transporting goods easily by ship. Accordingly the industrial area or the container yard is constructed either on the low sea or near the sea. Sea dredging ground is made by pumping them using dredge pump to the inside of embankment after dredging undersea soils. The dredging ground after pumping is in the slurry state but as time goes, consolidation by the own weight happens and evaporation happens at the surface of dredging ground. The evaporation causes the crest layer in the upper side of dredging ground. Under the crest layer there is still a soil of slurry state which has just little bearing resistance. This kind of characteristics makes it difficult to get a exact bearing capacity using the equations proposed until now. In this study we have performed simultaneously both the field loading tests and the cone penetration tests on the sea dredging ground. From the result of field tests, new experimental equation for the ultimate bearing capacity has been proposed. If we use the new equation, it is believed that some design of sea dredging ground could be more accurate.

  • This research does by purpose that present safe navigation plan for ships during doing dredging construction with dredger crossing waterway of Gadeok Dredging operations need to build sunken tunnel that cross the bottom of the sea under waterway of Gadeok for access road construction between Busan- Geoje. Accordingly, dredger must cross and dredge waterway of Gadeok fatally. There is possibility of marine accident of collision for latent danger situation of ships to navigate waterway of Gadeok relatively. Therefore, safe navigation plan of ship is groped in reply and its countermeasure is presented. Firstly, navigating traffic in daytime was forecasted less than 20% of its maximum capacity through estimating the traffic volume and traffic congestion The proposal was presented to execute dredging operations in three-step and to establish temporary waterway after reviewing waterway design principles. The role of VTS center was emphasized in the new Busan Port, lastly.

  • 5 each permeable and impermeable debris dams were selected to analyze the characteristics of dredging and sedimentation according to facility type in Inje, Gangwon. Field tests for the ground water table and sedimentation characteristics of the selected dams were performed. Furthermore, data of the dredging amount, storage capacity, and drainage area were analyzed for the 51 more debris control facilities. From the results of field tests, it was found that the storage capacity of impermeable debris dam could be not enough when the large debris flow is produced since sediments are accumulated even if large debris flow was not occurred. Drainage can be a problem since the ground water table of impermeable debris dam was reached to the surface of ground. However, it was found that the ground saturation should not occur at heavy rain since ground water table of permeable debris dam was located in lower part of buttress. Furthermore, from the analysis results of relation among the dredging amount, basin area, and capacity of debris control facility, it was found that size of debris control facility was not reflected by the basin area. Effective planning and construction should be accomplished for the future since the real sedimentation amount was not significant even though large debris dams were constructed.

  • Geotextile tubes hydraulically or mechanically filled with dredged materials have been applied in hydraulic and coastal engineering in recent years(shore protection structure, detached breakwater, groins and jetty). It can also be used to isolate contaminated material from harbor, detention basin dredging, and to use this unit as dikes for reclamation work. Recently, new preliminary design criteria supported by model and prototype tests, and some stability analysis calculations have been studied. The stability analysis of geotextile tube is composed geotechnical and hydrodynamic analysis. The stability check points are sliding failure, overturning, bearing capacity failure against the wave attack. In this paper presented the construction procedure and in-situ measurement(properties of filling material, effective height variation, stress variation at geotextile tube bottom) of geotextile tube at Young-Jin Bay and stability analysis by theoretical method and hydraulic model tests

  • This study deals with the estimation of dredged soil-quantity using DGPS&Echo-Sounder method. In measurement of topography, surveyors have been surveying the depth with rod and sounding lead. This method, however, is not effective because of long time and a lot of human power, in addition it is incorrect. This paper has studied on the solution of those problems using DGPS&Echo-sounder data to calculate the dredged soil-quantity. This paper says the effective and economical methods using DGPS&Echo-Sounder data there.

  • Sediment has been increasingly acknowledged as a carrier in water system and an available contamination. For this reason, dredging of sediment in reservoir to remediate water quality and secure storage capacity is conducted annually. However, disposal of numerous dredged sediment is necessary as a secondary problem. Currently, in Korea, dredged sediment is classified as waste to be reclamated or recycled into sandy soil, however, they are still in trouble because of spacial and environmental problem. Therefore, rather than simple disposal or reuse into sandy soil, it is necessary to research on method to manage main cause of pollution and increase the value as a resource. In this study, we intend to develop a recycle technology for numerous dredged sediment produced by dredging in deteriorated reservoirs using solidificator (stabilizer). To achieve this, we will consider utilization of dredged sediment and evaluation of use possibility as natural recycle by analysis the characteristics of soil-solidificator mixture in terms of physicochemical properties and the mixing ratio between sediment and solidificator.

  • This paper analyzes optimal watershed management focusing on reservoir-level sediment removal techniques. Although dams and reservoirs provide several benefits, sedimentation may reduce their storage capacity. As of today, the Aswan High Dam (AHD) in Egypt faces approximately 76% reduced life of the reservoir. Since the AHD is the major fresh water source in Egypt, sustainable use of this resource is extremely important. A model is developed to simultaneously determine optimal sediment removal strategies for upstream soil conservation efforts and reservoir-level sediment control. Two sediment removal techniques are considered: mechanical dredging and hydro-suction sediment removal system (HSRS). Moreover, different levels of upstream soil conservation efforts have introduced to control soil erosion, which is a major contributor of reservoir storage capacity reduction. We compare a baseline case, which implies no management alternative, to non-cooperative and social planners' solution. Our empirical results indicate that the socially optimal sediment removal technique is a mechanical dredging with unconstrained amount with providing a sustainable life of the reservoir. From the empirical results, we find that social welfare can be as high as $151.01 billion, and is sensitive to interest rates and agricultural soil loss.
